lizish
Personally I'd take the Phosphorescent Willie tribute anyday, and this is coming from a HUGE Earle fan. Have not heard the Earle, but I too have been using the Phosphorescent as a kind of benchmark for recent country music. You're right in that not a whole lot of other recent stuff has measured up. Rock Plaza Central - 'Neath the Lions Paw' - still hear some topped out distortion on the EP. Strange, but the songs are great.
bleedorange
Am I the only one that likes this better than For Emma?

cgoodwin22
I don't understand all the hype for Bon Iver. I try and try to like the album but i want to turn it off by the 3rd song.
Moss
Am I the only one that likes this better than For Emma? I still like For Emma much better. Out in the Woods is way too long for me. I don't understand all the hype for Bon Iver. I try and try to like the album but i want to turn it off by the 3rd song. I like him but his voice starts to wear on me before the album is done. Too much falsetto for me. 3 or 4 songs and I am ready to move on.

Gobias Industries
Am I the only one that likes this better than For Emma? Probably. But the song "Blood Bank" itself is probably only bettered by "For Emma" on the For Emma, Forever Ago album. For reals.
bleedorange
Figured. It just sounds richer and more interesting to me. Aside from "For Emma" and "Skinny Love," I get bored of the rest of the album. I hope his next album sees him branch out a little more. NP:

GtrPlyr
and....???? This is the record that was supposed to be released before Sign 'o the Times. It got shelved but many songs ended up on Sign 'o the Times. Probably one of the better Prince bootlegs out there. NP:

solace
this is definitely better than their debut (which i quite liked) and is VERY very Spoon-esque (not surprising considering Britt produced it)
lizish
that $100 album is great Just came back from the $100 instore. OMFG this band is mesmerizing. Simone and Ian went into little stories of each song, one about Lesbians having to escape rural Alberta (Hell's a Place) and another about a Grandfather and ex-soldier of the Reich building a cottage between the 'lake and the rails' to get away from the memories of war (Mardibrar). The band had requested that the instore be relatively early at 4pm, allowing some school kids to see them and still make it home before nightfall. When this was mentioned in the emails arranging the thing, I thought it was sorta strange; no self respecting 14 year old would be into a country band. Yet there were a number of highschool kids there, in and out of uniforn. Some were from as far away as Tillsonberg, there because they could not afford the Weakerthans/Cons show. There's a Canadian tour with The Deep Dark Woods coming up and then a quick jaunt into the States - probably along the Eastern Seaboard. You are warned.
