Wilco (the album) artwork

Recommended Posts

I don't think of the song as silly all that much, though. I certainly think of it as fun, with a humorously-intended punchline, but I think the rest of the content is pretty serious. "Shit sucks sometimes, but Wilco will love you, baby!" Jeff could just say, "na-na-na" for three minutes, but the bad-ass guitar chug is what I like about the tune.

i do like the music too, but that's cos it sounds just like 'werewolves of london' - and even now i am singing the chorus - so it is good in that way. i just know that if i think about it too much it'll annoy me. there is also something kind of very annoying about singing a song about your fans being a certain type of people, and needing their music for certain reasons, and now i'm going to stop right there before i get annoyed. :lol

I don't know what I was expecting, but when I first saw this cover pop up on the screen I felt nothing but good inside (for whatever that means and is worth).

I totally agree with the bad 70's album art reference, but not only is it that, it is very English. Like a bad 70's album art from a mediocre English band like 10cc or something.

is it wrong to not like it because it brings back bad memories of spending months in milwaukee training for a job i hated and eating german food a couple times a week at that place which i also hated?

i hope i can put the cover back in the cd sleeve backwards.

Now there's some criticism of substance. :lol

My first explanation on Page 2 was in jest; I'm pretty confident it's just a camel with a hat on next to a party cake.

If you're right that it's all just kind of silly and random, I like it even MORE.

But I'm guessing the camel was chosen for some reason.

I design graphics, so I naturally try to "figure out" a designer's intent....if there is meant to be one.

And I like the font. It fits somehow.

But I'm guessing the camel was chosen for some reason.

In my fantasies, I hear the following dialogue:

Jeff: Tony, what's our budget for the artwork?

Tony: Well, enough to rent a camel, but not enough to buy one.

Jeff: Camel...

Guest Hollinger.

I dig the cover. Only thing I would have done differently is a slightly different angle on the shot, so they could have put the "WILCO" in place of the Maders sign.

I love the cover. It's funny. It reminds me of visiting Amsterdam and being in a crowded pub where there was a cat sitting on a barstool eating dinner (a plate of fish!), like no big deal. I like animals at parties too.

Oh, that would ruin it for me. I'm so sorry PEB. :( But I have problems with negative associations that aren't anywhere near as realistic as yours. Like I can't even read speed racer's parody lyrics because they will stick in my mind over the real lyrics and ruin Wilco for me. (I know, stupid) And I completely cover my ears and make loud noises when the ice cream truck comes by my house or I'll be singing "pop goes the weasel" for weeks. :hmm I don't like that I'm like that, but I am.

If I have one complaint, is that the picture looks too staged. I think it would have been better without the wall, so it just looked like a Camel in the middle of the parking lot having a party. He looks a bit caged in.

What are you talking about?! That camel is there all the time.

It sort of harkens back to those irreverent album covers of the 60s and 70s smile.gif.

You meant irrelevant' date=' right?

[/quote']

Nope, meant irreverent ;).

irreverent (adjective)

characterized by a lightly pert and exuberant quality; "a certain irreverent gaiety and ease of manner" [syn: impertinent]

lacking proper respect or seriousness; also: satiric

The photographer probably wasn't tall enough, and they'd already used all their chairs for the photo.
