sleepymonkey
It's been downloaded over 1,700 times on one site in just 2.5 daysThere must be ways to keep this from happening. The new eminem album didn't leak this early and it's the most anticipated album of the year.Does Wilco just not care? Or do they underestimate how popular they are around the world?

Shakespeare In The Alley
it is?I'd say it could very well be. It's a pretty good album, for what it's worth.
cryptique
This wasn't really "early."
sleepymonkey
This wasn't really "early." yes it "is"comparatively speaking
explodo
It does seem like some bands have been having better luck keeping things under wraps until a week or two before the album comes out. Not sure about this one. Once promos roll out there, it's out there. I doubt Jeff Tweedy cares like, say, Lars Ulrich, but I think it would be a bit annoying. Except, anymore, it almost serves as viral marketing if you've actually created something worth hearing.
cryptique
yes it "is"comparatively speakingNot really. A month and a half? Back when I was much more interested in tracking down leaks, I pretty often got hold of albums as much as three or four months before their release dates.
Analogman
I think Lars and the band have changed their view of such things. I read somewhere the he actually downloaded a leaked copy of Death Magnetic.

Back when I was much more interested in tracking down leaks, I pretty often got hold of albums as much as three or four months before their release dates. Beck's albums come to mind. Seems like you can get those almost the god-damned year before they come out.
Shakespeare In The Alley
It's pretty much inevitable that an album will leak these days. The only album I've followed that hasn't leaked was Super Furry Animals' "Dark Days/Light Years." Although the initial release of that one was via the band's website, no copies got out before the band put it up for order/download from their website.
Guest Jules
If we're talking comparatively, SBS leaked earlier by a couple weeks.
Central Scrutinizer
I think the ultimate Wilco joke would be to cobble together enough songs -- not releasing "extras" -- and trumpet a new album, send around promos and two months after it leaks, release the real album (with the extras as, well, extras). Here are a few that might contend; Green DayU2Grizzly BearAnimal Collective And then whatever Q4 brings...Green Day I'll accept as anticipated, and maybe U2, but Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective? Are you kidding me? You do realize that these two bands still have such a niche following, right? Whether you like him or not, Eminem has way more fans and hype than GB and AC, it's just not as present on message boards.
jakobnicholas
It helps Green Day that Rolling Stone has been all over their new album. First, a 4 1/2 star review, then a cover. In my world, there's only one HUGE album this year: The Flaming Lips double disc.
imsjry
If you read the WilcoWeb email from yesterday, they sure don't seem to care. Since bands make very little from album sales, I doubt they even think about it.

bjorn_skurj
it is?I got an e-mail from Sirius XM the other day talking about their exclusive three-hour interview with that walking piece of vastly overrated shit like it was a GOOD thing. Sheesh.

Bob DylanBlack Eyed PeasJonas Bros (hahaha)Kelly ClarksonBob Dylan, while still loved, can not build up the anticipation like Eminem's first new album in five years. I didn't even know the BEP's had a new album, so that must not have been too hyped. The last two have their audiences, but still, i don't see any competition here. Hixter
Apples and oranges. Rappers like Eminem will shoot you in the face for downloading leaked copies of their music. Wilco just wink and suggest that you contribute a few bucks to charity.

davidtobin100
I can say with complete 100% honesty and certainty that I've never heard an MnM tune. Am I missing anything? Not really. The only song I heard that seemed alright was that song "Stan," and that was just him talking over someone else's song. Guess I just don't understand the kidz and their crazy crazy music.... A friend of mine used to play Eminem sometimes. The song "Lose Yourself" is phenomenal. Other than that, I don't think you're missing much. But I don't like most hip-hop flavored tunes.
