FYI, the crackling in Sonny Feeling and the My Sweet Lord thread already count as threads for those songs. :pirate

Stop!

You and I already has one, too!

Cease and desist, you!

I love this song now. Didn't really get the live versions (including seeing it performed myself at Lolla), but I'm really liking the album version with the non Handshake d/Impossible G predictable ending. I'm happy they left this on the album.

I propose you keep this thread open, based on the awesomeness of this song :dancing .

It's by far my favorite track on the album (at the moment, I guess). I really love Glen's skillz on this one.

I can't wait to hear One Wing in person. Cant make it to southern Oregon, but just booked a family trip to Red Rocks

To me, this is the standout track on the album. Awesome stuff ... though I do agree that the ending is a bit too abrupt.

I'm currently formulating my answer to Jules' three-favorite-Wilco-songs thread and this is the only song from W(TA) that hasn't been cut yet.

i love it. wish it was about a minute longer, just a little more jamming at the end would be nice. it ends so quickly...

I was expecting a Pat jam at the end of the song like they did at Lolla last summer...basically, I agree

So I was streaming this morning, and I guess i'm finally at the point of paying attention to the lyrics. I finally get it, you can't fly with one wing you can only wave goodbye. It is like a magic eye. I see nothing and then wowee there it is!

I'm slow

So, I heard this live last summer (Indy / Aug). I recall it having a really cool prog-rock kind of chord progression / break down in the middle or toward the end, but I don't think that the studio version has that.

Does that ring a bell with anyone else?

Yes. It'll undoubtedly ring a bell with everyone else who heard the earlier live versions and said the same thing.

I actually prefer the album version to last years live version. It’s not that I didn’t like the jam at the end, but It just had that kind of feeling like… ok, we’ve been there done that before. It didn’t seem like anything new or different and sounded too similar to “Impossible Germany.” To me the album version is more concise and just seems to fit the album better- if that makes any sense. However, that's not to say that I wouldn’t want to hear the jam at the upcoming live shows! :D

"One Wing" is such a gorgeous song. It's the song Coldplay wishes it could write but never, ever will.

But it ends too soon. Memo to Wilco: in concert, please keep going on that unbelievable chord progression for many more minutes.

Thanks!

I'm gonna get flamed for this but the abrupt ending makes it awfully radio friendly don't you think? Just saying.

Compare the live version of One Wing at Lollapalooza with the version Wilco performed on 08-08-08 in Cary, N.C. (both of which are on Youtube). Pat plays the solo on the extended ending in Chicago but a few days later he is on keyboards, with a shortened ending played by Nels. Obviously it was still a WIP at that time and they were trying out different endings. I prefer the Lollapalooza ending but it was kind of rough sounding and not too tight.

One Wing is obviously an allusion to the one government world (see also
