No, go right ahead and make a mix. Some of us are finishing up and uploading soon, but we can keep this exchange open for a few more days so others can get in on it if they wish.

Hey everyone! Here are the partners! I put those who had a preference for CD into the same hat, and those who had a sendspace preference or no preference in the other hat, so people could get what they wanted. Chosen at random.

cgoodwin22 & DAngerer09

bweil & kidsmoke

Hardwood Floor & mpolak21

Lowden11 & twigboyjoe

Thankyoufornothingatall & m_thomp

HungryHippo & jimtweedy1977

Joss Ackland & smellytramp

Let's share some mixes! Thanks for being apart of this!

As we finish up what's the best way to get these out? Should we post our tracklists in the thread, and PM everyone on the list our links?

Greg, I was the last person on the block to get a CD burner when I was in high school, and I think I might be the last of my g-g-generation to actually use cassettes. I'd prefer my playlists to kind of be fluid and always changing-- I rarely keep a playlist unscathed on my ipod for longer than a couple of weeks, I'm always tweaking with different song sequences, and so tapes were a little difficult for me to manage. I'd always end up fucking up as well and not quite taping all the way over a track. I remember somehow I had R.E.M's Murmur with snippets of Revolution No. 9 spliced in between the tracks. I still hear "Number Nine, Number Nine" sometimes in between Catapult and Sitting Still.

Right now my mix is almost finished up. Looking forward to all of these, I might have to drive from Saint Paul, MN to Charleston, WV over two days next week, so it'll be fun to have some new track lists to listen to.

Any rules apply to this mix-off? Usually we've have a limit to ten songs, and sometimes even a theme?

Equally, we could have no rules, which would ultimately mean me sending twigboyjoe a 'Best of Shed 7' triple cd-set.

Haha, blimey...you have some intuition - I used to love Shed Seven!! I'm on standby... :)

If you're gonna make a confession like that, do yourself the dignity of being anonymous! :D

Unfortunately, I've been paired up elsewhere, so no Royal Mail Rumblings coming from me. Rick Witter or no Rick Witter!

this mix was made for me, and whilst it's not the type of music i listen to, there are quite a few tracks i enjoyed. i need to give it all a few more listens for it to sink in.

here is the link for anyone else to download it: http://www.sendspace.com/file/yewzb2

then we can all discuss these mixes a bit more. otherwise it's a bit boring just one person saying what they think.

I knew your mix would rule and I guess there's something to be said for making these things quickly, as Pentecost Hotel and She May Call You Up Tonight were both in the running to make it on mine.

cheers. yeah - i actually offered smellytramp the other option of a southern soul mix, but he went for this. i didn't want to go too obscure with it all, but it had to have some nirvana and left banke on it! i'm looking forward to your mix, now that you've mentioned them.

Grt Plyr, I'll do a CD swap with you. My partner never responded...

Sounds good with me DAngerer. Now I just need to figure out a theme for my mix... I might go older and eclectic, or newer and lesser known... or something else completely different. If you have a preference in which direction say now, or forever hold your peace :D .

all old stuff, cos i'm not really listening to a great deal of music this year cos i've only a couple of things i like, and it's summer - so this music is great for that!

Some further thoughts on the awesomeness of this mix.

--The sounds Van Dyke Parks got on his records in the sixties never cease to amaze me, I remember driving around Charleston listening to Song Cycle over and over one day and thinking if this record came out today let alone 67, it would completely blow people's minds. He invented Elephant 6 with that album.

--The Jansch song is a real gem, hadn't heard anything with orchestral arrangements from him before.

--I once spent two hours trying to convince my friend Sharon that the 60's Nirvana was way better than Cobain's band. Like almost anything I've ever argued passionately about, I am not entirely sure if actually believed in what I was arguing about, but if I had to pick Simon Simopath or Nevermind at gunpoint, I'm going with the one with Pentecost Hotel on it.

--Everyone should listen to The Left Banke, a lot. "I've Got Something On My Mind" (particularly teamed with Jens Lekman' Black Cab, which samples the main hook) or "Pretty Ballerina" are my usual go to Left Banke mix tracks.

--Before this year I downloaded Scott's 1-4 about three times, listened to them, ditched them, couldn't get into it. I thought it was just strange and too melodramatic. I loved 30 Century Man and Black Sheep Boy, but the orchestration on most of the tracks sort of threw me. Then this winter, I decided to give Scott one more chance, and this time I took to all of his stuff in a big way. I've listened those albums more than almost anything else this year. The lesson: give everything a few chances before tossing off it to the side.

--New York Mining Disaster 1941 is usually my go to Bee Gees mix track, but Sound of Love is really beautiful as well.

--Perfect closing track for the mix, Odessey & Oracle and Blunstone's solo One Year are up there with the best records ever put out. Jon Brion does a great live cover of this as well.

For me the British folk of the late sixties/early seventies and sixties Baroque Pop have been two of the most rewarding genres of music to discover and listen to.

you ready to swap Gtr Plyr?

I didn't end up with the "newer stuff" mix as suggested as I didn't have all the CDs handy that I wanted to use. Instead, I went on a detour into 60s-70s Rock, Soul, Folk, Country, Baroque Pop, Brazilian Pop, and Cabaret. Despite the various genres I think everything sits well together and has a pretty good flow. I hope y'all like it.

Outsiders, Eccentrics, Fringe Dwellers and Cult Legends

04. Rodriguez - Crucify Your Mind (1970)

05. Lindisfarne - We Can Swing Together (1970)

06. Funkadelic - Can You Get to That (1971)

07. Lee Hazlewood - Dark in My Heart (1967)

08. Terry Callier - Lean on Me (1972)

09. Camille Yarbrough - Take Yo' Praise (1975)

10. Eddie Hinton - Cover Me (196?)

11. David Ackles - Subway to the Country (1970)
