Glenn's Stick Bag
Ladies. Gentlemen. Thank you!! After a weekend away from the web I have just jumped on to see if anyone had been good enough to respond and I find a really funny, friendly thread full of ideas!! (As if I ever expected anything less from the VC community!) I was considering a meal out but a meal in is the answer I reckon...and with a mix cd - fantastic idea, I especially like the idea of making it into an invite to come over for the meal - inspired - and thanks for the little one-liners here and there guys, I am spoiled! Flowers were already in the mix, plus a bottle of Barolo 'cos she has never tried it and I love it, plus something fizzy of course. A million thank you's...I will keep you posted of course - birthday is Friday so wish me luck, and here's to you all

Guest Speed Racer
For my birthday, one month in to our relationship, my girlfriend got me a $20 Chipotle gift card. She tapped into my two favorite things: food, and not paying for things I normally would. For that extra-special something, she also gave it to my co-worker - the person who set us up - to leave on my desk Monday night so that she surprised me on Tuesday morning, my birthday. Super-simple, not over done. She got me what I wanted, not what she thought I would like or thought would signify our relationship so far; food - free food. God bless her. Sir Stewart
Still can't think of what I got my beautiful wife for her first birthday after we met...

Mr. Kinsley
Yeah, I fear this didn't go well. Maybe something along the lines of, "You got all the ideas for tonight from a rock-band's fan site?!?!" Either that or she's still there.
Glenn's Stick Bag
Friends - here I am at last with an update...sorry for the lack of report on Friday, but Friday ran into Saturday, ran into Sunday...you get the picture!! So it was flowers, wine, card, wonderful chocolate brownies from a local place, and the cd, (which ended up as a collection of ballads from various singers, eg Dusty Springfield, Van Morrison, Costello, and some jazz tunes), and all went down a storm - thank you all so much. I made a Medittearanean lamb thing with coriander and lemon and garlic and we had great ice cream and Prosecco. A fabulous night and we are closer than ever now, and with silly grins all over our faces Thank you all - this thread has been so much fun, I owe you all at least a drink and maybe so much more in years to come!!! Loads of love to you all xxxxxxx
Wendy
Sounds very romantic! It's going to be hard to out-do yourself next year! You made her Meditteranean lamb? Are you a chef or something? She should be impressed with this. Most men I know would throw a steak on the grill.
Mr. Kinsley
Well played Mr. Bag! Good thing you didn't tell us that you could whip such up a tasty meal, because we'd have crashed the party! Just be sure to name your first born Via Chicago.

TCP
When I saw the date on this thread I thought "they better still be together!". Glad to see everything worked out. On 8/29/2009 at 5:27 PM, TCP said: Girly stuff? Bracelets? Clearly none of these people have dated in the past TEN DECADES. Here's what you do. 1) Cut a hole in a box 2) Put your junk in that box 3) Make her open the box "Who wrote this?! Oh god it was me...". To be fair, I was referencing a popular SNL sketch from the time and not just being a creepy weirdo.
