bböp
I have to say, fortunately it didn't get nearly as cold as I had feared. I would imagine outdoor shows in October could be dicey, given that temperatures went down to freezing overnight. Jeff mentioned how it was sort of a melancholy fall day and they were going to play some autumnal, "squash-colored" songs. Anyway, here was the setlist for Kansas City, as played: —"The Price Is Right" theme music intro—Wilco (the song)IATTBYHBull Black NovaYou Are My FaceOne WingA Shot in the ArmRadio CureImpossible GermanyAt Least That's What You SaidOne By OneI'll FightHandshake DrugsSonny FeelingHate It HereCan't Stand ItJesus, etc. (crowd singalong)WalkenI'm The Man Who Loves You-----------------------MisunderstoodI'm Always In LoveYou Never Know (w/Liam Finn on acoustic guitar and vox)California Stars (w/Liam Finn on acoustic guitar and Eliza Jane Barnes on maracas)Kingpin-----------------------The Late GreatsMonday>Outtasite (Outta Mind)>Hoodoo VoodooI'm A Wheel

Preferred B
Oh, nice to see EJ stepping in with a guest role! Seems like the YNK/CA Stars combo is here to stay for this leg of the tour? On a related note, they broke up the Hate it Here/Walken pair?! Nice setlist, with lots of songs ... I guess that's a side effect of not playing Spiders. Good to see "I'll Fight." I just know "Country Disappeared" is coming soon. Maybe Memphis? Fingers crossed. I wish I'd known it back at Bridge School last year. It must have been nice not to have that VIP pit in front at Grinders. Hopefully it was a little less wet than last time, too.

bböp
OMG THEY DIDN"T DO SPIDERS OR HEAVY METAL! Is that a misprint? Not a misprint. By my decidedly unscientific research, seems like the only other time that's happened this year in a non-festival set was the second night at the Pabst in Milwaukee on 4-15-09. (Personal to heffer: Is that interesting? ) Now a show without Jesus or I'm The Man? That would probably be a misprint.

M. (hristine
Deliciously dark read of Radio Cure. Jeff's whammy bar got a serious work out last night. His lead guitar work seems much more muscular and prevalent this tour. It is edifying to see him play like that. Have to say that Liam and EJ played a powerful set. All I heard after they finished was echos of the same word over and over by everyone behind me: "Wow". Sarah was over the moon. On a personal note, I met yet another VCer who said, "I thought you would be taller."

All I heard after they finished was echos of the same word over and over by everyone behind me: "Wow." Agreed. Liam and EJ have been a really great supporting act. I find it hard to believe most people couldn't find at least something to like about them. Hopefully someone got a good photo of Liam last night in his Michael Jackson-esque red jacket. I think it was more like the Thriller look, though I thought Jeff said something to the effect of it being Bad-era. Liam took it off after a couple of songs, but put it back on when he came out for YNK and California Stars (although he also had a scarf on, which detracted a bit from the MJ effect). I actually remembered to keep Liam's setlist as well, in case anybody's interested: Plane CrashLong Way To GoFire In Your BellyI'll Be LightningOn Your SideWise Man>Second ChanceLead Balloon

M. (hristine
At Sarah's request Brennan recorded their set as well. I was blown away. Was that their last gig with Wilco this tour? I would like to know the back story on that jacket. I guess it was incongruous to Liam's usual garb? He said that he looked like a 'dork' wearing it. I'm pretty sure Sarah got pictures. bböp
Was that their last gig with Wilco this tour? Nope, they've got about another week yet. Their last gig on this tour is Oct. 16 in Ann Arbor.
KansasAl
OMG THEY DIDN"T DO SPIDERS OR HEAVY METAL! Is that a misprint? Refreshing isn't it? I hit a couple songs I had not had including At Least That's What You Said which was a real treat. I did not realize Jeff took the solo on that and was thoroughly impressed. I was surprised they chased Impossible Germany with that figuring Nels hands might fall off (best Impossible Germany I have seen) but it made more sense when Jeff took the solo. Very professional show with some fun thrown in.

I was waiting for him to have the guitar battle with Nels during Hoodoo Voodoo

It is edifying to see him play like that. Good to hear Jeff is taking lead again, after so many years of awesome interpretations of his A Ghost is Born solos by Nels. I think it's easy to forget that on that particular record, Jeff did almost all the lead work himself. As much as I love what Nels does, I'm really looking forward to some scorching Tweedy solos next week in Columbus!

drunkonaquariums
Just curious, how long have these shows been lasting? Setlists look great so far. I was at the St Paul show. They came on at about 8:50 and finished the 2nd encore at almost 11:20. 2 1/2 hours of blistering rock. By the set-list I'm guessing this one was about the same length... maybe a few minutes shorter. fatheadfred
Now that everyone knows Nels overplays he can't catch a break to show his skills. He seemed a little left out of the show. The setlist didn't seem to flow very well but I give em props for mixing it up a bit. I think they sold a few too many tickets last night. Never been that crowded at a show there...including the last Wilco show there. Aside from that, it was good to see them again. Sonny Feeling and One by One were the highlights for me. Oh, and I'm a Wheel rocked.

kidsmoke
Country Disappeared is the #1 request in Columbus, OH do to someone I know ...fingers crossed it appears by then! What a magnificent show this was! Liam & Eliza were a terrific opener. I do have photos of Liam in his MJ jacket, not sure how good but I'll post if I have a decent one. We heard Country Disappeared during soundcheck, and it sounds pretty wonderful. I'm sure it'll make a setlist soon. What a great time we had in Kansas City, and in the very best of company. Must do it again very-soonish.
