Sweet. Alone Together is one of my all-time favorite albums.

Me too! This was a huge album among my friends during our high school years. Someone had the colored album, recently bought a used copy. Saw him 2x in the last few years, most recently last spring. Great times. He tells the story of how he was 19 when he wrote Feelin Alright. Still a cash cow for him. 19.

Cool. I am in the 7th row, so this should be good.

Wild. Winwood was like 14 when he joined the Spencer Davis Group and like 16 when Gimme Some Lovin' was written/recorded. Crazy.

Mason put on a very good show. I didn't know what to expect, but he is singing and playing well at 67 or however old he is now.

I was really not familiar with Alone Together, and it sounded like good stuff from what he played off it. Picked up an old vinyl copy yesterday for $3.99. First time I have bought records in a long time. Got Phil Manzanera's Primitive Guitars at the same shop for about $6 and an old Billie Holiday comp. That was a fun trip.

How was it?  I've only seen Kozelek solo.

It was great. Chris Connolly was on keys and a fellow named Eric Pollard played drums.

They played all of "Benji" except Newtown, Jim Wise and Ben's. Then they played about 6 or 7 songs including Livingstone Bramble, Katowicz or Cologne, You Missed My Heart, Gustavo (probably my favourite song of the evening), Caroline and Ceiling Gazing. If you're a long-time fan (which I'm not) and went in hoping to hear some of Koz's older stuff or Red House Painters stuff you may have been a bit disappointed.

He did a lot of audience-insulting and shushing before each song. I haven't quite figured this guy out. I'm not sure if the insulting is Koz trying to be funny or if he just doesn't give a sh*t about what he says and whom he insults/offends!

We got both "Nels Cline" songs!

I think I've seen him solo four times and the insult-the-audience shtick has been part of each show.  I'm sure he's pissed off that his fans are "guys in tennis shoes" but he's got to deal with that in a better way than insulting the people who are paying good money to see him perform.

Yeah, I agree.

In addition to repeatedly taking shots at the tennis shoe guys he also did the chat-up-the-pretty-girl-in-the-front-row thing (and made fun of the guy she was with). For the most part this was an audience that pretty much hung on his every word and obediently went silent whenever he shushed us which was before every song. Yet when a dude innocently asked him how many shows he had played on this tour he barked out, "Count, you f*cking idiot!" Harsh! I have a hard time reconciling this general dickishness with a guy who writes songs like Carissa and Among the Leaves.

Sounds like Koz.  The first time I saw him he told the crowd that we were being too quiet and asked if anyone had any questions.  When someone asked him about his guitar he mocked the guy's question, made fun of his (thinning) hair, and then basically said that they guy wouldn't be much competition for picking up women after the show.  Needless to say, nobody asked any more questions.

But I sure do like his music ...

I'd go see him again because I love his music. My husband, however, has a harder time "separating the artist from his art" and is much less forgiving. As far as he's concerned there are so many other great down-tempo, sad bastard singer-songwriters out there worth listening to and seeing live. He's through with Koz!
