Lammycat
It's weird to me how people clamor for truth from athletes/managers/GMs/etc., instead of the standard cliches, and then when we get someone to actually make some truthful statements, they get skewered for it.? Not sure I understand any of this.
bleedorange
? Not sure I understand any of this. The latest is the Nolan Ryan interview about Josh Hamilton. But there are a number of examples of athletes straying from the standard cliches and it seems that every time they do, everyone is there to condemn the statements. It's just a strange dichotomy. bleedorange
What do you mean by truthful statements, though? By talking about stopping the chewing affecting his play? Yes. In this latest example it was Ryan explaining that he didn't think it was the best time for Hamilton to choose to quit because of the way it impacted his performance on the field. It just seems that a lot of times when people give honest assessments of things, they get jumped on for being honest. So I guess cliches, stock answers, and vanilla responses to questions that don't give any insight are the preferred ways to go.

Muzzle of Dan
Gotta say that I'm lovin' these Cardinals, as much as that make me have a heart attack - they know how to get a W.
KevinG
Gotta say that I'm lovin' these Cardinals, as much as that make me have a heart attack - they know how to get a W. Worse game ever. The two teams I wanted to go on are now out. Now it will prolly be NYY and the Cards in the WS. One I will not watch.
dagwave
I tink it will go the other way; Tigers/ Giants There definitely have been some amazing moments this post season!
Sweet Papa Crimbo
Gotta say that I'm lovin' these Cardinals, as much as that make me have a heart attack - they know how to get a W. Wow...I don't know how much of that was the Nats yakking it up and how much of it was the Cards experience.
Winston Legthigh
Amazing finish to the Cards/Nats game. Caught the last three innings. I want Cards/Tigers, if only to prompt Fox to show highlights from the 68 Series (not the 06 Series - ugly).
The High Heat
Wow...I don't know how much of that was the Nats yakking it up and how much of it was the Cards experience. Both. It's been my position that the Nats aren't quite fundamentaly sound enough for the trophy. Ironically, I thought the bullpen was the least of their worries. And the Cardinals are relentless opportunists.

Ironically, I thought the bullpen was the least of their worries. And the Cardinals are relentless opportunists.id agree with this. the nats were never gonna win the title this year, which is why the strasburg thing never bothered me. their main core is too young and inexperienced, pitching especially. storen's a talented young closer, he just didnt have it last night. it happens. the cards have consistently showed why playoff experience matters. it was a great season for dc and they fought hard. cant call it a disappointment by any means. a lot of key players on the nats got big game experience over the last week, and thats the big takeaway. it was a learning experience from the start, and im excited to see how they come back from last nights heartbreak. i guess im pulling for giants and tigers now, but anyone except the yankees would be alright with me. dagwave
apologies if you already know this: in 1992 AROD was the #1 draft pick. Raul Ibanez: #1006 in the 36th round. His work ethic, attitude, professionalism, humility, and awesomeness make my hope that he hits game tying and/ or walk off bombs all the way to a World Championship. I still believe Tigers/ Gians = Giants champs, but if i had to pick a player to root for : Raul.
Sweet Papa Crimbo
Jeter has reportedly broken his ankle...
The High Heat
Jeter has reportedly broken his ankle... Yeah, his left ankle is cracked, fortunately with no catastrophic damage. I've never seen Jeter lose his balance before (which has always impressed me), so the weakness in left foot for the last few weeks most likely contributed to the break. Same thing with Ryan Howard last year when his lingering foot issue led to a snapped Achilles. One thing is for sure, I'm not looking forward to the offseason debate of moving Jeter off SS. It's gonna be a long winter.
Winston Legthigh
Sad news about Jeter. There was a funny little play after Austin Jackson hit a triple. Jeter came over to him during the time out and pushed him off the bag while saying something to him. Made me laugh. Valverde is obviously done as a closer. It's obvious, right Leyland? Right? I mean, you can plainly see that, yes?
parisisstale
id agree with this. the nats were never gonna win the title this year, which is why the strasburg thing never bothered me. This common opinion I simply do not get...this isn't an 8th seed in the NBA...in baseball all playoff teams have a chance, that's what makes the playoffs so compelling....not to mention the Nats had HOME FIELD throughout... I love the "we'll get em next year" people to...I remember Dan Marino saying that once too...no guarantees you get back ever, let alone next year... They blew it, plain & simple....they were in first all year, they had plenty of time to re-work their Strasburg plan....the Braves had Medlen come out of the pen after his surgery & slowly built him into a starter....shit, the cards babied wainwright & carpenter all year so they could be ready for a playoff run, how's that workin out for them? parisisstale
Colleagues at work come back with the "no guarantee they win anyway"....of course true but there'd also be another guarantee, only 1 awful Gio performance instead of too.....as well as the added flexibility to the bullpen

The High Heat
Holliday's "slide" was dirty. Holliday's got something coming in early April 2013. He'd better practice not digging in during spring training.
ih8music
Holliday's "slide" was dirty. Agree. He launched himself over the base and should have been called for it. It's one thing to go in hard, but you need to at least make contact with the dirt in front of the bag.
