LouieB
When is this being released for real?? This Tuesday? LouieB
theashtraysays
Yes. If you bought a concert ticket for him on this tour (which I did), you get the download for free. I think it might even be a day early for that. Pretty novel, I thought.
lost highway
Upon third listen, I'm totally in love with this album. It's a long journey (one hour +), but all so enjoyable that it's totally worth it. Definitely a slightly different sound for him, I hear some African highlife influence. At points it is more straight forward than other Bird outings.
jcroach
I've been listening to it all weekend. I don't know if it's great or not, all I know is I really enjoy it.
solace
love this more than the last one, that's for sure. i actually liked Useless Creatures, the instrumental bonus disc, way more than the proper Noble Beast (still pretty good record tho).
theashtraysays
I'm liking it. I agree it's more straightforward at times, but there's still some of the sonic doodling that we heard in the Useless Creatures disc. It's a really nice progression and comes together well. Some great hooks, and catchy tunes in there. Looking forward to some headphone listening soon... I saw the "Here's What Happened" docu on Palladia this weekend. Not overly interesting really. No dialog or anything like that, just them playing at the barn studio thingie recording the new tunes. Kinda fun to watch them play, but not exactly insightful. lamradio
Andrew Bird is one of those artists that I really loved at first, but my interest quickly dropped off a cliff for some reason. Definitely looking forward to giving this a listen though.
cooperissup3r
Andrew Bird is one of those artists that I really loved at first, but my interest quickly dropped off a cliff for some reason. Definitely looking forward to giving this a listen though. i think maybe because all of his stuff sounds very similar. he never changes up much from his formula. or maybe not. i know for me, i can only listen to so much of his stuff due to it all having the same general tone/feel. LouieB
In recent months my wife has fallen in love with the guy, so I bought this for her yesterday. When describing what he does to people the other night I got a negative reaction. For me, having seen him a number of times, it is the "one man band" aspect of his performances which begins to get old. He is a master player and there are times I wish he would just play straight, with a band, like the old days with Bowl of Fire. LouieB
lost highway
i think maybe because all of his stuff sounds very similar. he never changes up much from his formula. or maybe not. i know for me, i can only listen to so much of his stuff due to it all having the same general tone/feel. I think this is a fair criticism. Part of what keeps me coming back is in spite of the sameness of his sound, there is no one else on earth who sounds like him. Everything he's done since The Mysterious Production of Eggs is of such high quality. Well thought out, well crafted. I do think the duet, and the Afropop flourishes on this album make it sound quite a bit different than Armchair or Noble Beast.
k8tee
He is a master player and there are times I wish he would just play straight, with a band, like the old days with Bowl of Fire. I saw his first show in support of the new album in London earlier this week, and it was very much a more straightforward, full-band performance than the times I saw him after Noble Beast was released. And while 'straightforward' and 'accessible' might be regarded as negative, the show was much more relaxed, Andrew and the band sound fantastic, and the new songs are still interesting and complex, but also fun. From what I've read, the album was recorded in a more jam-session-type environment, and at least at the first show, this came through. I am curious what the new material will sound like down the road, when they've been playing it over and over every night.
LouieB
I listened to this album this weekend and it seems pretty straight forward for a change. Nice back-up vocals from Nora O'Connor on many of the songs. LouieB
bleedorange
It's just as boring as everything else he's released in the last seven years. Mysterious Production of Eggs was really good, but everything since then has been mediocre at best.
LouieB
I wouldn't call it boring exactly. But he does seem rather set in his ways. LouieB
theashtraysays
...rather set in his ways.LouieBthat's a good way to put it. the new one is not radical, and I think that pretty much any of the tracks could get lost into any of the last couple records. but it's still very good music. lost highway
I bought the double vinyl + mp3 download. This thing was good at first, but I'd say it's a grower.... it's great. Beautiful hour of music.
welch79
this was my first andrew bird album, and i dig it. may try to catch his ryman show next week.
KevinG
I have listened to it quite a few times. I admit I am an Andrew Bird fan, but I love it. Not on par with Eggs or Armchair, but real good.

rareair
He is really good in person. LouieB agreed. and I will be at the Ryman show.
Lynch
The more I listen to this album the more I am growing to love it! Danse Caribe, Eyeoneye, Lusitania, Fatal Shore.... these songs I just can't get enough of. I recognized some bits of Fatal Shore from his cover of Dylan's "Oh, Sister", which is one of my favorite Andrew Bird moments.I have introduced alot of my friends to the genius of Bird as well
