I am not a fan of Christmas or the holidays in general

Words of wisdom from Dr. Seuss.  Merry Christmas, everybody, especially to those who get discouraged by the commercialism that the corporations and the media outlets try to inundate us with.  Don't let the bastards get ya down, don't let someone who only wants your money determine the meaning of Christmas for you,  Christmas can mean whatever you want it to mean!

How could it be so? It came without ribbons!... it came without tags!... it came without packages, boxes, or bags! He puzzled and puzzed till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. Maybe Christmas, he thought... doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps... means a little bit more!

I agree that the consumerism of it gets really gross. The malls, the internet, the pressure. If you're not Christian (my family isn't) that takes out another notch.

Being in education I get a solid 2 weeks off. It's a good slow down. I get less busy, if I'm lucky I might even get a little bored. And then family comes into focus. We all get tied up in our own business during the year so it's a vital time to keep connections strong. My sister just had her first kid (I get a nephew!). My wife and I are getting ready to be parents. It's all really nice.

We decided to throw a wrench in our kid's Christmas morning -- we only put an envelope under the tree - it was left by an elf.

My oldest kid just sat on top of the stairs and looked down at the tree, seeing nothing but the envelope  - the look of disbelief and sadness was pretty funny -- yeah sometimes seeing your kid disappointed and sad is fun....

We came down and read the contents of the letter, which stated that the elves hid all the gifts and it gave the first clue where the 1st set of gifts were hidden at   --- all the other clues were with each set of gifts. It was fun gift hunt.

Next year the kid will be seven and possibly won't believe in Santa and elves any more -- may as well have fun, when we can.

My in-laws all asked my kids if they were sure if wasn't the Easter bunny who stopped by.
