kidsmoke
Ok, since December seems to call for play and silliness, I give you this, a new game of sorts. It will be a 3-parter. Today's post (Superpowers - Part One) asks that you select the ONE superpower you would like to have, from the list below. Feel free to explain your choice. These are the only superpowers you may choose from, so don't go making up one of your own. 1.) Super Vision : You can see for miles, with infinite clarity! Includes X-ray Vision and Heat Vision. 2.) "Fish Boy" or "Fish Girl" : You are the master of the world's waterways, and can swim endlessly and breathe underwater 3.) "SpiderPerson" : Yep, that's you, spitting webs from your hands and swinging from buildings and climbing things like a spider can. Additionally, you know all the lyrics to "Spiders (kidsmoke)". 4. Flying: A little push of your foot, and you're aloft! Good for travel on Earth as well as through space. 5.) Midas Touch: Whatever you touch turns to Gold! 6.) Super Speed: You are so fast at everything that it is just a blur to others! You are almost finished before you begin! Look at you run! 7.) The Ability to Make Correct Change: rarer than you may think. 8.) Super Strength: Holy Cow! Please set down the Sears Tower! 9.) Personal Magnetism: Walk on any beach or playground, and small metal objects rush to be with you! Find coins and jewelry! A friend shoots himself in the head with a nail gun? No problem! You rush to his side and quickly call the nail to yourself, and then drive your friend to the hospital 10.) Invisibility: "Hey! Who did that?!!!" Yeah, you're pretty badass. 11.) "Animal Transmogrification Boy" or "Animal Transmogrification Girl": At the Blink of an eye, you can become any living creature . Fortunately, you can also change back. Unfortunately, you still have not managed to come up with a better name for yourself. 12.) "Future Boy" or "Future Girl": You can see into the future!!! How incredible is THAT? But only 10 minutes. 13.) "Balancing Boy" or "Balancing Girl": Inspired by the internet, this superpower allows you to balance any material object on any other material object. Just imagine all the applications! 14.) Freezing Time: You can stop time right in its relentless tracks! Don't want to be on that roller coaster at the very crest of that huge drop? Freeze time! Then calmly climb down the coaster framework before restarting time for your terrified friends, still on the roller coaster. 15.) Mind Reading: Bad guys have no chance against you. Also makes for an amusing party game. 16.) The Diplomat: You can make any two people agree with each other. Your only possible difficulty lies in the fact that you must get them both into the same space since you must be touching both persons for your superpower to take effect. Good luck. 17.) WeatherMan or WeatherWoman: You have the ability to change the weather around you to whatever you choose! But only for 3 square miles surrounding you, and remember, you're in there too, and you aren't invincible. 18.) Invincibility: Nothing can hurt you! You can't even catch a cold or suffer a paper cut! This would have come in handy for 17. Can you even die? Seems unlikely. Ok, there you go. Lots and lots of choices, so whatever you decide on, you've got some 'splainin' to do. Why that one? How will you use it?
Doug C
I had a tough time choosing between flying and animal transmogrification boy but then realized that being an trans man would allow flying. So shifter it is!
anthony
This reminds me of the (brilliant) This American Life story: Flight vs Invisibility.
kidsmoke
Yes, but choose a superpower, Anthony! Only those who choose a superpower will get to participate in "Superpowers - Part Two". You don't want to be left out!
anthony
Yes, but choose a superpower, Anthony! Only those who choose a superpower will get to participate in "Superpowers - Part Two". You don't want to be left out! Fair enough. I have been reading comics since I was old enough to pull on some Underroos (do they still make them?). And without a doubt, the power I always wanted was Magneto's. So I choose #9 (hopefully I can move bigger objects than just nickels and nails).
Moss
What, no X-ray vision? I'm going mind reading. Could be dangerous.
kidsmoke
What, no X-ray vision? Read #1 again. Yeah, mind reading would be intense.
The High Heat
Invisibility. Being in the room with people while they talk sh%t about me would provoke me to "haunt" the room, and I could watch people...umm...do things.
kidsmoke
Ew. I was going to choose invisibility too, but now I'm a little grossed out to think about what I might accidentally see or hear. Nose-picking for instance. Of course one could always leave, but maybe not quick enough. I may want to give this more thought. Same problem with mind reading!
choo-choo-charlie
I would be The Diplomat, and get my wife and my mom to be best pals.
calvino
Invisibility for me - I can deal with a nose pick --- I would use my powers to sneak into high priced or sold out concerts.
Jcamp
The Midas touch could make all concert tics be located in the Front row. Freezing Time must be used by those who produce all of the great After the Show setlists and reviews!
Lammycat
Invisibility for me - I can deal with a nose pick --- I would use my powers to sneak into high priced or sold out concerts.Me too. And maybe Angelina Jolie's shower.

True - but some front row tickets are $850.00, so the Midas Touch wouldn't help, unless I use the power to pick a winning Lotto ticket.Me too. And maybe Angelina Jolie's shower. That too. Doug C
Initially, I was just thinking about how I would be able to experience nature in a unique way by shifting into animals. I love the natural world. But flying would be an amazing experience, then I realized that if I gave up the space travel part, I could fly and be among the animals. Every time I read a new entry, I have another reason why animal transmogrification would be my choice. It includes the underwater ability, invisibility as a human, superhuman vision, not spiderperson but spider, superhuman speed, superhuman strength, I could not super balance things but could be super balanced (watch the video of the ibexes on the Italian dam wall! http://www.npr.org/blogs/krulwich/2013/12/16/250846078/whats-that-clinging-to-the-towering-wall-and-why-doesnt-it-fall-off). So an easy choice.
Winston Legthigh
True - but some front row tickets are $850.00, so the Midas Touch wouldn't help, unless I use the power to pick a winning Lotto ticket. That too. Why would you need a lotto ticket if you had the power to turn things into gold? Any time you need money, just find a big rock, turn it into gold, sell it for cash. Repeat ad nauseum. For me, I think I would want to keep my superpower a secret - and invisibility would be ideal for that. Freezing time would be useful - I'm assuming that means everything is frozen except for me? The long vision thing would be limited, since the world is round. You'd constantly need to find a high perch to make the power useful. I'll go with Invisibility then. theashtraysays
Flying. Which I assume comes with "landing" as well.
ih8music
I've had very lucid dreams of being able to fly for pretty much all my life, so I guess that's what I'd pick, too.
John Smith
Since I already have most of those on he list I think I would like to add omniscience to my repertoire.

calvino
I don't remember ever having a dream that I was flying - that kinda sucks.

So an easy choice. Yes, but could you make correct change? The Midas touch could make all concert tics be located in the Front row. Freezing Time must be used by those who produce all of the great After the Show setlists and reviews! Those of you choosing the Midas Touch should realize that I put this one in as a joke, and that Midas had no control over what he turned to gold. Everything he touched turned to gold! There are a few problems inherent in this. Even taking a piss could be a problem. Golden showers indeed. Since I already have most of those on he list I think I would like to add omniscience to my repertoire. Now what did I say about making up your own superpower, John? No, you may not be "God" in this game. I'll probably put up Part Two of this game tomorrow or the next day, so everybody have your superpowers chosen.
Moss
Read #1 again. Yeah, mind reading would be intense. Boy, do I lack attention to detail. Put me down for invisibility.
Doug C
Yes, but could you make correct change?Only when I had shifted into an animal with opposable thumbs!
ih8music
Me too. I take off kind of like an airplane, too.I actually just kind of hop and effortlessly remain in the air as long and as high as I please. Not flying ala superman I guess, but I think it still counts.
