wilcoexaminer
Since we're nearing Wilco's 20th anniversary I was wondering what folks consider to be their best ever, most essential bootleg recordings over the last 2 decades. My top 5: 1. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Demos & Outtakes2. The Troubador, Los Angeles: 11/12/963. Their 5 night residency at the Riveria in Chicago playing their entire catalog: 2/15-2/20/20084. Grant Park, Chicago: 7/4/01 (Jay Bennett's last show)5. Solid Sound Festival 6/21/13 (completely kick ass covers)
Mizzy
There's a pretty good one available of Tanglewood in August(?) of 2008. I believe it was courtesy of NYCTaper. And in my personal opinion the Keyspan park performance of Spiders is the definitive perfomance of that song, usually guests detract a bit but Yo La Tengo subtly improve that tune. Is there anything super crips available from the "Evening With" tour of 2010?
choo-choo-charlie
I have too many to narrow down to a top 5, so I'll just run down some of my favorites off the top of my head. These are the best-sounding and best snapshots of the band in a particular era, IMO. 5-23-9510-25-19959-4-19979-4-199810-4-19997-30-20007-4-200110-5-20013-16-200210-29-20026-28-20039-4-200310-13-20072-27-20084-6-2010
anthony
There are some good ones mentioned, but the one I listen to the most is this one: Jeff Tweedy May 16, 2003Martyr'sChicago, IL http://www.sooutoftune.org/concerts/

I have an ok audience recording, is there a better recording out there? Is there an FM broadcast I haven't been able to find?

worldrecordplayer
There is only one source out there - as far as I know.Me too, but during the show Tweedy refers to the show being FM broadcast, so I'm surprised a FM recording never surfaced.
Analogman
That's interesting. At db.etree.org someone has a SBD listed. I have never seen that out there either.

Can't remember where I got it - maybe from someone here. I went to the "Evening With" show at the Strathmore. 4/21/99 Irving Plaza9/4/03 Eugene OR (sing along CA Stars) Another good Summerteeth-era show is from Bogart's, 11-5-1999. Rare live version of "Any Major Dude Will Tell You" and a few other covers, plus a huge Kingpin. Jeff was in a strange headspace that night, based on the stage banter. If I had to pick a No. 1 favorite live Wilco recording, the 9/4/03 show at the McDonald Theatre would probably be it. Really unique setlist and terrific sound. Opening with Kingpin. Tons of Jeff lead guitar on not-quite-finished AGIB songs. Cars Can't Escape. 3 songs from A.M., and Laminated Cat is a total monster. 10/13/2007 at CrossroadsKC would be a very close second. Great one-two punch opener of Via Chicago and Company in My Back, 4 songs from A.M., PKB, She's a Jar, Hesitating Beauty. Then they blew the place out and closed the show with Red-Eyed > I Got You > Outtasite > Casino Queen > Spiders.
calvino
Below is an old link to 'Bennett's Best Shows'. I assume many of the ones mentioned in the below link are at Owl and Bear or So Out of Tune. http://viachicago.org/topic/40180-bennetts-best-shows/?p=1336368&do=findComment&comment=1336368

Nice find!

I'm pretty sure that was webcast, I seem to remember listening to it at home, I thought two shows in a row were webcast, can't remember if it was Providence and Boston or Boston and New Hampshire. Lammycat
One I go back to often is the Orange Peel show (5.1.03). The YHF demos, as already mentioned, are excellent, too.

Analogman
Are webcast's not allowed on etree or other torrent sights? If I recall correctly - Dime a Dozen has some very specific rules about such uploads. Personally, I don't want to mess with such sources. Or should I say - I am not interested in collecting such sources. This may be the longest time period I can think of since there has been a Wilco/Jeff show appear on a BT site. At least a show that we don't already have.
Magnetized
I remember the webcast too because it was the first mention of Solid Sound. Actually I don't recall whether Jeff used that name, but he talked about a Wilco festival at Mass MoCA. (I'd never heard of the place and thought he was saying mass mocha.)
