I don't recall much about listening to the new Pink Floyd

Well, this pretty much says it all. Ha!

But seriously, anyone who is interested, just check out the song samples on Amazon if you're interested. If you go, "Wow, this is so cool!"...then maybe you should buy it. If not, then guess what? The whole album sounds like that. There are no great revelations to be had.

And yes, those terrible lyrics by Polly Sampson just go to show you that Gilmour is still clueless about lyrics. The guy can play, but I suspect he's not the most literate person around...

No, you really don't.

Ha!  I like Gilmour no matter what the setting, and Division Bell wasn't that bad.  We'll see though.  I read that Gilmour has a solo album on the way, so that might be something L-)

Wow, Soulive and Galactic. I haven't thought about those bands since...high school. Might have to dig out some of those discs.

Ouch, that hurts :uhoh

I gotta admit I really underestimated the demand.

Add me to that list.  I didn't think they'd sell out one night in a stadium, let alone 3.  Shows you why Peter Shapiro is Peter Shapiro and I'm not!

Btw, I just got around to listening to those shows from the official release of the JGB 1989 tour. G'damn was Jerry on fire during those shows! My AUD recordings from Poplar and Alpine don't do those shows justice.

Is that the Long Island Sound box, with the Bob/Rob shows? I was at the Hartford show, as I believe I have mentioned around these parts. My only chance to catch a Jerry show. I guess I was pretty lucky to catch a good one.

Yes, Mr. H, that's the one. I think I saw 12 Dead shows in 89 and the 2 JGBs I saw that year were just as good or better IMHO

I caught a JGB show in Albany around that time. It must've been 89. The only time I saw them, but it was terrific. A friend from high school is the main guy in The Jerry Garcia Project which does essentially the same thing as DSO, but with Jerry shows. I saw him in the fall and he told me I was the person who introduced him to the Dead. All those years ago.

Sorry - not meant as a dig at you! I was really into jam bands, er, improvisational rock, in high school, and have recently started getting back into Phish. Among the groups I listened to in high school (which was only 15 years ago) were Galactic and Soulive. I really like Galactic's Crazyhorse Mongoose and Soulive's Rubber Soulive, where they cover a bunch of songs by The Beatles in their instrumental jazz-funk-fusion style. Interesting, at least to my ears, to listen to some of those beloved songs played by an organ trio (drums, guitar, organ). Haven't thought about or listened to them in years.

Never did catch a JGB show - much to my dismay.

Listened to the Joe Russo's Almost Dead shows from 09/19/2014 & 09/20/2014 at Concord Music Hall, Chicago, IL this morning --- really good stuff, wish I would have made the shows. I was never much a fan of Benevento/Russo duo when they use to perform on a regular basis, so I never paid much attention to their Almost Dead shows before today.

C'mon, Clarence was awesome with Jerry! Seriously he was a great fit. I was really impressed (and I was NOT a Clarence fan prior to seeing him). Better than that Fiero hack from LOM  ;-)

Seeing JRAD next Friday night.  First time.  I've been looking forward to this for a long time.  Their first show in Boston.  Everything I hear and see from them just blows my mind.

Really looking forward to seeing these guys next week at Higher Ground in Burlington.  I am generally "meh" on all things post-Dead, but JRAD is really bringing something new and special to their renditions of the Dead's songbook.  The Cumerland Blues from the Brooklyn Bowl show earlier this week is simply amazing.  There's a nice clean copy to stream or download over at www.nyctaper.com -- love those guys!!!

Trey is capable, no doubt.  If it was clear that Trey was gonna nail Help on the Way the way he nailed Rift circa 1992 then I'd be there for sure.  Alas, I think it's going to be one of those 'lets just jam and see what happens'.  Not to mention the other elements that I'm too old to deal with.  Shit show is definitely possible.

Here is some footage of Trey playing with Phil and Bob at Lockn' in 2013. I suspect the Chicago shows are going to be very similar to this. Swap out Hornsby for the keyboard player and eliminate the other guitar player, and that's what you're getting.

Probably shouldn't post this given how stupid it is.  Great example of how stellar 'fair and balanced' journalism is today.  We've come so far.   :stunned

Incidentally, been listening to the Almost Acoustic set.  So damn great.  Wonder if there is any video from that run.

Of course JK takes most of the solos.  Trey dicks around constantly looking at Bob to see what's going on.  No real solos from him.  Not to mention his complete flub of Casey Jones solo.

Ok, that Casey Jones solo had to be the single worst Trey performance I've ever seen. Still, he's had a number of excellent performance with Phil and I think he's an excellent choice. We're I going I'd be very happy Trey's on guitar.

Man oh man, I've been listening to tons of JGB lately and the question comes to mind, why did the GD not tap Melvin Seals to take Brents seat after he passed on? Wtf, Melvin JAMS!

Anyone else get and listen to the new Dave's Pick yet? I am almost finished with the last disc.

It's good, but I hope no one makes the same mistake I made: getting overexcited by all the breathless hyperbole on the dead.net forum. Man, I think there are still people out there feeling the effects of doses they ate in 1987. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's '74, of course it's not a crap show. But man oh man, people, it ain't the the ark of the covenant. It's not going to surpass 8/27/72.
