Analogman
This is something to look forward to watching: Netflix has acquired exclusive distribution rights for the Bob Weir documentary The Other One: The Long, Strange Trip of Bob Weir. Variety reports that the film, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, will debut on the online streaming service on Friday, May 22. The movie—directed by Mike Fleiss—tells the story of Weir’s life, from his youth through his time with the Grateful Dead and beyond. “Mike Fleiss was given unprecedented access to create an intimate and compelling film about one of the most prolific, respected and beloved musicians of our time,” said Lisa Nishimura, Netflix VP of original documentary and comedy. “We are proud to bring Bob’s story to his fans around the world on the eve of the Dead’s final shows at Soldier Field in Chicago.” Flies also added, “We certainly unearthed a lot of buried treasure from the Grateful Dead archive while making this film… With Netflix, we have found the perfect global partner to tell the fascinating life story of Bob Weir set against the backdrop of America’s greatest rock band.”

Lammycat
I saw that Billy thing, too. Pretty cool stuff. He's been doing some last-minute shows, too, with Kimock, Schools, Chimenti and others. He and Mickey are in Denver soon for shows at Red Rocks (w/ Disco Biscuits) and The Ogden (Billy & The Kids). Might have to catch some of it.
worldrecordplayer
#tbt (now Friday) to the days Bob Bralove would get me backstage passes and great seats #gratefuldead #stealyourface
calvino
Guess Lambert and Gans are going to make an announcement on XM at 2pm(Central) --- read that it's going to be CA shows announcement.
Lammycat
Yep. Guessing it's the Weir, Billy, Mickey, Hornsby, Kimock, Gordon, Mayer set up.....
calvino
No Lesh -- that sucks. I can't see these tickets being in demand as much as the Chicago shows. If I got shut out of Chicago, I don't think this show would ease my soul (so to speak). I am not a fan of Mayer -- but I thought the Mayer/Weir performances a bit ago were pretty good. mountain bed
Christ. Phil & Steve just need to kiss and make up. 16 years is a long fucking time to hold a grudge.
calvino
Forgot about the whole Kimock/Lesh thing. I suppose Lesh never had any intention to play these shows --- I assume they would have gotten a different guitar player, other than Kimock - if Lesh really wanted to play. calvino
Nope - same band that will be playing in Chicago will be playing the CA shows -- that's good.
Lammycat
Right. June 27,28. That's cool.
calvino
Just said that Candace Brightman will be doing the lights, again - at both locations - that is also cool. Also doing a whole new on-line ticket method --- like on-line mail order -- guess similar to what Phish does. (trying their best to cut out the scalping). Ticket prices similar Chicago. All good stuff. Now hopefully the Chicago shows won't be a complete cluster-fuck with ticket-less people.
Mr. Heartbreak
http://www.jambase.com/Articles/124648/Santa-Clara-Grateful-Dead-50-Performances-Confirmed Looks like Phil is included after all. EDIT: So, let's do the math...3 midwest shows...2 west coast shows...and zero east coast shows. Couldn't have made a single night in NYC? Capitol Theatre? DC? After all the love they got from us all those years here on the east coast? I can't afford this crap, but it's actually kind of insulting now. You know what, every one of those "core four" SOBs can kiss my hairy white ass. From now on, it's downloading SBDs and that is it. Not giving them another penny of my hard earned money. Lest anyone think I am just whining on behalf of east coast heads: I feel especially bad for all the west coast folks who got misled into buying tickets for Soldier Field, thinking this was it. They got royally fucked.

It's started already.
NoJ
With Candace doing the lights, whoever makes it to these shows are in for a treat.
worldrecordplayer
http://www.jambase.com/Articles/124648/Santa-Clara-Grateful-Dead-50-Performances-Confirmed I feel especially bad for all the west coast folks who got misled into buying tickets for Soldier Field, thinking this was it. They got royally fucked. That's what I've been thinking ever since rumors of these shows started circulating. If I lived in the Bay Area and shelled out all that $$ for airfare, hotel, etc. to go to Chicago for what were clearly billed as the last and only shows, I'd be freaking pissed. And I share your East Coast blues. They should have planned this out to do west coast, Chicago and east coast venues from the beginning.

worldrecordplayer
The third night of the Ark shows is a whopper. The St.Stephen-> It's a Sin-> Stephen is excellent, as is the Dark Star that precedes it. The Eleven from 4/22/69 is one of my favorites, too. Listening to this right now. Love the intro by the guy who had never heard them as of 2 nights earlier but now knows they are "the best fucking rock n roll band in the whole world" Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

calvino
Looks like the Chicago Shows will be simulcasted in theaters. Not sure if this means that they won't webcast it, too. http://www.fathomevents.com/event/fare-thee-well Perhaps they will have better control of the content by having the shows simulcasted in theaters, rather than a webcast, where it can be more easily captured and shared.(Guess someone can go the Seinfeld route and capture it at the theater.) I am guessing they will be selling a box set of the shows in the future.
