tinnitus photography
i saw 'em 8 or 9 times and that was always tucked into the middle of the set, it seemed. but their set lists were always all over the place.
Shug
Release - Pearl Jam I saw this once in San Jose in 1994, I think. That's my favorite Pearl Jam song still and it was an awesome opener to a great show.

chuckrh
i saw 'em 8 or 9 times and that was always tucked into the middle of the set, it seemed. but their set lists were always all over the place.1 GBV show I saw where Bob went over the cliff (lot of stuff ended up on the drunken rants record), Bob slurred/announced that they were going to do Bee "f***ing" Thousand in its entirety @ about 1:15 AM (closing time 2:00 AM). & by God they did most of it. Epic but no "Kicker of Elves".
Vacant Horizon
I would rate Jack Straw as the Dead's best show opener, ahead of Help, Bertha, etc. Nothing better! (Help opener always made me nervous as the band wasn't warmed up yet.
worldrecordplayer
I would rate Jack Straw as the Dead's best show opener, ahead of Help, Bertha, etc.I've seen a lot of shows, don't remember ever see them open with JS, one of my favorites in the entire GD catalog. worldrecordplayer
also, Wilco opening their covers set at SSF w/ "The Boys Are Back In Town" One of the best openers I ever saw. I had no idea what to expect at that show. Then, after having skipped SS the previous summer, to come out rocking with this was absolute perfection. I had a huge smile on my face the entire song, and I've since listened to it many times and it never fails to put that smile right back on my face. Statesboro Blues- Allmans And if we're talking live shows, Via Chicago. Specifically, when they opened for Neil in Worcester, and snapped heads to attention for all those in the arena who had no idea.
