kidsmoke
I'm not asking what old band, new to you, you've discovered...Pavement, The Cure... Not that that isn't great!! It is! But, have you fallen for any brand-new bands? Musicians who have just recently thrown their lots together, and are valiantly trying to make a go of it? Sometimes there's SO much talent packed in! These are the bands I can't help but support! Right now the one I'm pulling for is Plains, a blend of the talents of Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee and the songstress Jess Williamson. The 2 songs released so far from their debut have been humming in my veins since I heard them..."Problem With It" and "Abilene"...both very strong songs for gorgeous voices. Highly recommended! Ok, now tell me what you've got? Who is new and deserves attention, on your radar? Let's do right by our musicians out there!❤️
uncool2pillow
Right now, I really believe the future of rock is female. So many of new(ish) favorite artists. Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers, The Beths are just a few examples.

You can get the whole record for $1. https://romeromelbourne.bandcamp.com/album/turn-it-on
Doug C
Before I read your post, I was going to say Plains, Donna! I love Waxahatchee, so I was excited to hear Plains on SiriusXMU. They did not disappoint. Both songs are in my head also. We are very excited to see them in Seattle on Oct. 21. I’d also say Horsegirl, really loving them. They’re not so new anymore and now they’re “The Cool Thing”, but I love Wet Leg. The moment I heard “Chaise Longue” over a year ago, I was a fan. I haven’t heard a bad song yet. I unfortunately had to sell our tickets for an August club date in Vancouver. Agree with uncool2pillow above. There are so many incredible female musicians in the last 5 years. Without taking time to think, I could name 10 in addition to the above.
Chez
Completely agree about Wet Leg and would add Beach Bunny and Indigo De Souza to the list of newer artists that I'm really enjoying. I'll check out Plaines.
kidsmoke
I have gotten turned on to so much great music through the members of VC over the years! I have some listening to do! It's great to see all the female talent busting out. I see Plains on Oct. 28th, and the setting couldn't be cooler...Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace! I love it up there in the high desert among the joshua trees and under a skyful of stars!
Albert Tatlock
As usual I have a difficult time loving everything by any band, but have been impressed with the lyrics of Sam Fender. Don't know how big he is in the US - he's definitely big here now. This is a great song from someone so young and nice to have Stephen Graham in the video. The Geordie Springsteen as he has been labelled. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoODq7Ol1so And of course the 'hit'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAifgn2Cvo8 From a couple of years ago (now) I loved Fontaines D.C.'s first album (practically all of it, which is very rare for me). Subsequent ones not so much. In the category of 'love what they stand for and their attitude but not totally into the music, but would enjoy a good night out live' - in the same manner as Goldie Looking Chain back in the day and with the same Welsh connection and sense of humour - CVC. They're like some bizarre throwback to classic Boz Scaggs or something - from a land that time forgot up in the Valleys. My people. https://www.yuckmagazine.co.uk/features/in-conversation-with-cvc Just something about them (rather than the music per se) that I like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gM4nVPdxfJI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIyzERKWoRI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usZoIPdQP98 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdQKfZrSaPM
Doug C
Agree re Fontaines D.C. Would like to see them. Arlo Parks is one I forgot from earlier. She is top drawer.

It was definitely interesting, and it’s always good to hear a new band that plays rock music. I will check out their first album based on your recommendation.

The follow-up was a step backwards IMO.
Boss_Tweedy
Sweeping Promises. They opened for the Mountain Goats last night in NOLA, and they certainly didn't seem like an opener. I only missed about 10 minutes of the set, but I hate that I missed any of it. Definitely a band to keep an eye on. https://www.stereogum.com/2170938/band-to-watch-sweeping-promises/interviews/band-to-watch/

When I first heard it I thought it could be Emmylou, which is about the greatest compliment I can pay any female singer. Good lyrics too.

kidsmoke
I'm a big Waxahatchee fan, too. Katie Crutchfield has a one-of-a-kind voice! What do you think of her work with Jess Williamson in Plains? I love the contrasts between their voices. Interesting factoids on that album, "I Walked with You a Ways", are that Spencer Tweedy was the drummer, and also track 7, "Last 2 on Earth" was co-written by Katie and her longtime partner, Kevin Morby. I like the character that brings to the song, in my mind. I'm appreciating these favorites. I need to explore several people!
