  1. Ooo! I want to change my vote now! Can I post it here or send you a PM? [Ducks to avoid heavy objects thrown at head.] Kidding!! Thanks for putting this together. I can't help but wonder what Jeff himself would think about this.
  2. Whatever ends up happening, we expect a full report* *As full a report as would be appropriate at least.
  3. Oh, I'm good with it, but what would Woody think of the price tag?
  4. Homemade dinner, flowers, and a mix tape that you can listen to during dinner. Make sure the mix isn't the most rockin' batch of songs you could find, but something that will set a nice mood. Nothing too overtly sexy (ie: Marvin Gaye's Let's Get it On, anything by Barry White, etc.) but just nice mellow stuff you can have a conversation over. Ooo! I got it! You give it to her (maybe in her mailbox) and the cover of the CD is an invite to your place for dinner, with instructions to bring the CD to play while having dinner. I suggest making a 2 or 3 CD set so that the music keeps going. Dis
  5. I can't help but think that somewhere Woody is saying, "Holy Shit! You're charging people $60 for that! Damn capitalists!"
  6. I'll second the nomination for Seven. My then-girlfriend, now-wife and I couldn't get off the sofa to take the tape out of the VCR. We sat there, huddled together for about 5 minutes after it ended, arguing about who would move first. Also, it wasnt' a movie, but I remember TV ads for Burlington from when I was a kid that had really loud percussion with the green Burlington logo coming towards you along to the drum beat. Whenever that came on I had to run and hide behind a chair. It totally freaked me out.
  7. I'd love a JT/Andrew Bird collaboration. I'm not real up on Andy's schedule, but that would be cool if he were in town, being a Chicago guy.
  8. This thread is really great, but I'd like for Jeff to hear my birthday wishes personally. Does anyone know how I could get in touch with him to tell him directly and see if my salutations meet his approval? Happy Birthday!
  9. I could understand a 22 year old not recognizing him, since most pictures you'd see of him are from the 60's. But to not KNOW who he IS? Really now. This does sound a bit dodgey, with the translated quotes and all. (Not because of the actual incident. Some people are just that dumb.)
  10. Please reread that and ask yourself if it isn't just a tad ridiculous. I'm 6'2" and I've NEVER cut in front of anyone at shows to get a better view. Actually, the one time I actually did get front row my legs were killing me later from squatting down and partially propping myself up on the stage. I also let shorter people stand in front of me when I'm farther back. However, I would also like to be as close as possible, so I'm not going to cede the good seats to the vertically challenged. My eyesight's not that great, so it really pisses me off when all the people with 20/20 vision hog up all t
  11. Hmmm, maybe it'll be Okkervil River again?
  12. So, just do a top 30 and don't tell us your bottom ten!
  13. Speaking of labeling bands, I always found it ammusing that Rush and Floyd were lumped in with 'heavy metal' bands. Kids at school would easily speak of them in the same sentence as Van Halen or Judas Priest without the slightest sense of irony. Even as a kid back in the mid-eighties I was astounded by that.
  14. The difference I'm noticing isn't a decline but a maturing. The music you make in your forties isn't going to be the same as what you made in your twenties. No doubt that some artists go downhill when they get over the hill, but listen to this album and tell me this is a decline. Bull Black Nova? One of their toughest, most raw sounding songs ever. You Never Know and Wilco (the song)? Catchiest stuff yet. One Wing and You & I? Mature takes on love and relationships that at times either soar, bounce, or sway. And they always make you think. What could be wrong with any of that? After havi
  15. For those who aren't aware, this is a real group... and they're hilarious!!! http://garfunkelandoates.com/
  16. At ease. Thank you for clarifying. DISSS-missed!
  17. A hole can only have one mix. I'm inspired to play along, but I don't have nearly the ammo to keep up with the likes of you folk. Y'all are rather intimidating.
  18. Mike, What are the rules on song versions? Are you going to differentiate between a studio and live version? Since we're voting on the writing isn't which version of the performance one likes of little consequence? Besides, the live version of, say, Via Chicago has changed dramatically over the years. Also, isn't Laminated Cat really the same as Not for the Season? Is a vote for one a vote for both? (Aren't you glad you started this? )
  19. Before I unfurl the magnificence that is my list, I'd like to chime in with my $.02 on the rules: - The Mermaid stuff is some of my favorite Tweedy work, but I really don't think it should count, since it seemed that what the magazine's list was focusing on was mainly lyrics. - I draw no distinction between live/studio/Wilcobook/etc versions, because something like Panthers for instance, is still the same song. We aren't voting for performance, but rather for the writing. Having said all of that, here's my list! 1. Poor Places - the most perfect song ever written 2. Radio King - Yes, inde

I couldn't find any other bands, but two things caught my eye: 1) How few CD's he has. I'm assuming that he has a bizillion mp3's, but still... 2) the rug - did that persian rug get retired from stage duty and end up on his floor?
  21. I think we've done a top 100 bands, albums, and songs in the past. Is there another, less conventional list we could do? -Best and/or worst band names (regardless of actual quality of music.) -Best rock album covers. (No Blue Note jazz albums, it wouldn't be fair. They kick ass.) -Best cover songs. -Most under/over rated bands. -Best album since (insert year here.) -Top 100 FAVORITE* bands. (*Not who is the best, but who is your favorite. For example, Wilco is my favorite band - shocking, I know - but I think The Beatles are the best band. Yet, they'd only rank 3rd or 4th on my favorites li
  22. While she won't be confused with any supermodels any time soon, I wouldn't say she's ugly. Now Jack White on the other hand...
  23. And I could be wrong but I thought that Tele was giving her pins and booty some attention also.
