  1. I'd never really seen her perform before last night. Does she usually play an instrument while singing? She looked like she needed something to hide behind; a guitar, a keyboard, possibly a podium or an umbrella. She just seemed like a mic wasn't cutting it for her. Having said all that, she did a fantastic job and was as lovely/charming as everyone else here has already stated. My favorite part was when she did a little air-drumming between verses and made a rather unintentionally silly face. I rewound that part on TiVo about 20 times.
  2. Wilco should do that and have as their opening acts Autumn Defense, Nels Cline singers, Mike's band (can't remember the name), have Glenn do some solo stuff, and Jeff do a solo bit. I'd love to see the Old 97's do that.
  3. That's kind of what I figured too. Thanks for confirming my suspicions everyone.
  4. In its review of the new Rhett Miller album Paste Magazine refers to him as the former the Old 97's frontman. They are wrong on that, right? Did I miss something? Hopefully this will be a short thread.
  5. After it's released, sure. When they're recording... not so much.
  6. I think the Starbucks factor will be huge. I had a coupon for Borders so I went there, then across the street to Starbucks to get a drink and read the W(TA) booklet, not dreaming that they'd have it there. With the decreasing number of record stores, just the impulse buys alone from being practically the only thing within arm's reach for most people will bump them up 2 or 3 places on the charts. It's funny though, that for a band that really cares so little about sales their fans are concerned about it for them!
  7. I'd like to somehow take credit for this... so I will! You're welcome!!
  8. I'm noticing that most of the shows don't have any opening acts assigned to them as of yet. In an attempt to both remedy that situation and help make life easier for everyone behind the scenes of Wilco, I propose we nominate local performers from each city. How about a little home cooking? First up, Los Angeles/Pomona - I have two suggestions. #1 - Jason Karaban Great singer/songwriter with some very catchy, heartfelt tunes. His newest album, Sobriety Kills, is an unflinching look at trying to overcome addiction and do the right thing. I highly recommend his stuff. #2 - Garfunkel & Oat
  9. They'll never be any good without Jay! He was the whole reason for the popularity and the writing will go totally to crap. Without him in the studio... huh? Leno? Oooooooh. Nevermind.
  10. I went through most of this thread trying to find this answer, so excuse me if I'm repeating something: If you get Ashes through iTunes will you still get the bonus material?
  11. COCK (With all the Van Halen references earlier I can't believe no one said that already.)

    Nels Cline

Since I'm a little out of the loop on this album, when I saw this thread title and sub-head I was expecting someone to rip into Nels. Nice to see I was wrong. Although I'm sure at some point someone will start the one-upsmanship by saying that Jay Bennett wouldn't have merely named his album Coward, he would have called it Chicken Shit.
  13. It's obviously just the demo version.
  14. How about a little pre-executive order?
  15. Cowbell - So easy even a caveman can play it.

    I fear

They're also the ones I like to cross the street to. Here, here! Kick Pat out. (Kidding!!) Not to be intended as a diss of Kenny C., but we all do realize that Glenn is a thousand times the drummer that Ken was/is. For my money he's the best there is out there.
  17. Um... #72* on the Merriwether set needs some 'splainin. *Or was it #73? I can't remember. The one with the B-day cake.
  18. I thought it looked like they were going to the prom.
  19. Thanks everybody! I don't know if I can shake a tail feather anymore... I'm now 40!! And yeah, sorry for being sort of AWOL lately.
  20. Ooo. Bad call. I did that last summer at the Greek in LA. All of my Wilco fan friends (pop. 2) had plans. The Greek has notoriously bad parking, so I went insanely early, thinking that I'd be in a massive crush of cars lined up. Silly me forgot that in LA nobody gets to any venue more than 10 minutes before the show/game/whatever, so I had to wander around like a total loser. I'd check my watch and look over to the entrance to make it look like I was waiting for someone. And once the show starts, you won't have anyone to lean over to and say, "Wow! Can you believe that?!?!" EDIT: I can't bel
  21. Superdollar Can Be Made Better Edit: Oops! Pic didn't work... hang on. Edit #2: now I lost it completely. Not sure what happened. Oh well. Carry on.
