  1. One kid's dad that I carpooled with in elementary school was a distributor for a candy company and he gave me 3 full countertop boxes of 1977 Topps cards. Had I realized what I had I would have just left them alone, unopened. My favorite card that I own is the '69 Aurileo Rodriguez rookie card. The photographer knew he was the Mexican kid on the Angels, so he grabbed the first Mexican-looking kid he saw and snapped a pic. Turns out it was the batboy. Too bad the card is in crap shape.
  2. If your life is on the line due to a basketball game, you need to re-think who you're hanging out with.
  3. Wow. Y'know, we actually do have a few conservatives around here who are quite articulate and willing to engage in a civilized discussion on the issues, without throwing a hissy-fit when confronted by a well-reasoned, politely-stated rebuttal. Feel free to join their ranks at any time.
  4. That song was my first thought. Although I'd go with Jeff Buckley's version - which I'm shocked nobody mentioned. Ted Hawkins does an amazing cover of this where the bulk of the song is acapella.
  5. He racked-up a huge lead with the 11 wins in a row, then pretty much limped to the finish. He won the first half, she won the second half, but he had a bigger half. Someone on TV was talking the other day about how he piled up 200+ delegates in that beginning portion and ended up winning by about 200 delegates.
  6. Please tell me that the first two are just somebody goofin' on Fox. They didn't REEEEEEally say that? Did they?
  7. Which way do you mean that? "Christ. Don't make such a big deal out of that." or "Christ. What an asshole for saying that."
  8. One would think that the people putting on the show would, I don't know... cancel the show? Let everyone know? Maybe it wasn't their fault, though. Maybe the authorities, who were probably aware of a large outdoor gathering, could have swung by and alerted the masses? I don't know how much of it is really your fault, but that's what you get for going to see James Taylor. (Kidding. )
  9. I wonder what percentage of the comments on that page are from VC?
  10. Great piece in the LA Times yesterday about David Steiner, who was the guy who went to the microphone and asked, "Could a doctor come right here!?!?" The link includes a first-hand account of his experience not only that night, but how he's never been the same since. Really great. (The article, not that it screwed him up, of course.) As for my own VERY tangential first-hand account, they took Bobby to the same hospital that my grandfather was in at the time having open heart surgery (which back then, NOT fun!) My family (including my mom, who was pregnant with me) had to be escorted by a can
  11. I agree, but I do think that while the words are carefully chosen there is a certain intentionally thrown together feel to it. Like he's trying to create a feeling through a rough juxtaposition of words and phrases, which ultimately makes it impossible to pin down and easier for each person to project their own interpretation onto it. Nice first post, BTW. Welcome aboard!!
  12. What I find most horrifying is how heartily people in the audience are laughing at the situation. Also, I love the use of intercoursed in place of fucked. A classier, funnier replacement for a swear word that is becoming overused to the point of cliche.
  13. The Bowl is probably my #1 favorite LA thing to do. Doesn't really matter what is playing, just go! Get there plenty early, bring a nice picnic with a bottle of wine, find a table (our usual spot is the park across the street, so we can put all the stuff away easily after we eat since there's a parking lot right there) and then stroll over afterwards. Don't forget to give a buck to the guy with the opera singing puppet after the show - love him!
  14. That and firing up her supporters with the "I'm not making any decisions tonight" bit so that they'll go to "HillaryClinton.com!" and donate to her campaign (ie: help her pay down her debt) even though she knew all along last night that she'd be bowing out.
  15. The issue with McCain's age is less about decision-making and more about the likelihood he'll live to see the end of his term. He's had melanoma (which his doctors don't think will come back I should say to be fair) and frankly, he looks as crappy now as most former presidents do AFTER their terms are up. They say he's in great shape, but that job takes a lot out of you. His VP pick is crucial, not just for his electability prospects, but for the sake of the country in the above average possibility that said person has to place their hand on a Bible.
  16. While looking up the source article, that page lead to a series of links which led to this fascinating look at Hypercar technology.
  17. Here's a fascinating look into that world. From Al Jazeera of all places!
  18. I love that as of this posting the two threads at the top of the TTL forum are this and the cheese thread!
  19. From the Cypress Grove Chevre website:
  20. This is the part I agree with. If things were so bad... SAY SOMETHING!!!!! Come out on talk shows 3 years ago with this stuff! Spineless.
  21. What could you possibly be doing that you couldn't pop in and say howdy a couple times a week? Although, this place IS like potato chips - you can't post just once. Good luck with your new adventure, and your VC willpower!
