  1. If Wilco plays at the celebration, I already know the opening song: Jesus Christ for President
  2. I agree that Soft Bulletin is a MUST. To me, "Clouds Tastes Metallic" then "Transmissions from the Satellite Heart" would be my next picks. After that.....if you still dig them....you can try some of their earlier projects or EP's like The Day They Shot a Hole in the Jesus Egg/Priest Driven Ambulance or something like the Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell EP (which contains the best Christmas song nobody has ever heard of, "A Change at Christmas"). These are all great, but maybe more of an acquired taste to some. ALSO....I REALLY love the Flaming Lips Late Night Tales cd. It's a 2
  3. We'll never know how much of a factor race was for Powell's decision, but anyone who thinks it had ZERO to do with it is kidding themselves. I actually don't have a problem with Powell having race as one of his reasons. Hell, if I was African-American, I'd probably be very tempted to vote for Obama. Considering where blacks once stood in this country, I can totally understand any African-American wanting to put in someone of their skin color. I thought the best point in Buchanan's article was Powell questioning the Supreme Court appointees. That seems baffling to me.
  4. October 21, 2008 Tribal Politics By Patrick J. Buchanan Was race a factor in the decision of Colin Powell to repudiate his party’s nominee and friend of 25 years, Sen. John McCain, two weeks before Election Day, and to endorse Barack Obama? Gen. Powell does not deny it, contending only that race was not the only or decisive factor. “If I had only that fact in mind,” he told Tom Brokaw, “I could have done this six, eight, ten months ago.” Yet, in hailing Barack as a “transformational figure” whose election would “electrify our country … (and) the world,” Powell seems to testify to the c
  5. I was gonna vote for McCain, but not now. I can't believe McCain is questioning Obama's baseball rooting interests. What an asshole. Way to go Obama for defending your right to root for whoever you want!!
  6. I'm a lifelong Catholic, attend every week, and can honestly say I have NEVER heard a priest mention a political party, let alone a specific candidate. I have heard a few sermons that discussed abortion, but NEVER in a context of anything political...it was always in the context of the church advocating sanctity of life and/or for church-goers to pray for babies and for mothers.
  7. I always root for the American League, but it will be hard to not root for the Phillies. The Phillies make me remember 1980, which makes me remember Mike Shmidt, which makes me remember George Brett, which makes me remember a time the Royals actually were a great organization. I predict the Rays win in 6 games.
  8. (Hugh Hewitt, Towhall.com): Tuesday, October 21, 2008 Catholics and the Vote Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 8:27 AM E.J. Dionne found an auxiliary bishop to quote in support of the idea that the Catholic hierarchy in America is split on the upcoming election. I salute E.J.'s investigative skills in tracking down Gabino Zavala, an auxiliary bishop in the Los Angeles Archdiocese, the one bishop who provides a little cover for the idea that a faithful Catholic can vote in good conscience for Obama. But even the elevation of Zavala to national prominence in the pages of the Washington Post doesn't
  9. If I could, I'd buy all you Obama supporters this for Christmas.
  10. Speaking in Seattle on Sunday, Biden said he could guarantee that the world will want to find out if Obama is up to the job, which he assured voters he is. "Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking," Biden said. "Remember I said it standing here. if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy. And he's gonna have to make some really tough -- I don't know what the decision's gonna be, but I promise you it will o
  11. You're so dean on. How silly of anyone to doubt Obama's abilities to handle potential international problems!
  12. A little far-right punditry from the NY Post to try to balance out this way left thread: AMERICA THE WEAK US RISKS TURMOIL UNDER PREZ O by Ralph Peters Posted: 4:51 am October 20, 2008 IF Sen. Barack Obama is elected president, our re public will survive, but our international strategy and some of our allies may not. His first year in office would conjure globe-spanning challenges as our enemies piled on to exploit his weakness. Add in Sen. Joe Biden - with his track record of calling every major foreign-policy crisis wrong for 35 years - as vice president and de facto secretary of
  13. (Random Democrat in the audience for a Stewart stand-up show) "Hey....did you hear that? Stewart just told Palin to fuck off.......whoo-whee.....that Stewart is a funny guy......ha-ha......that's hilarious!"
  14. I've thought this too. I DO think SOME will not vote for Barack because he's black. But I also truly believe there many caucasians who will vote for him because he's black....because they honestly feel like it's time for a man of color to be elected.....and with a bland candidate like McCain on the other side, now's as good a time as any. It WILL be great as an American...on the surface....for the world to see that we do in fact give everyone a chance and will vote them to our highest office. It just kinda sucks to me that it happens to be Obama.
  15. I know you're trying to be funny, but that's so Demorat of you to point that out.
  16. You followers of the Chosen One sure are a cocky bunch. All I'm sayin', is that the next 2 years could potentially be the most left this country has ever been. That ain't gonna last long.
  17. Conservatism isn't going anywhere. In fact, with an Obama White House and a Democrat Congress, we might see a huge groundswell of true Conservatism over the next 4 years, and see someone like Bobby Jindal make a run in 2012. Conservatives would beg to differ that the country under George Bush has been rolling to the right. And McCain is as moderate as they come.
  18. What else is McCain supposed to do? After the economic meltdown, McCain dropped 10 points down. Since going negative, McCain seems to have gained 3 or 4 points. HE HAS NO CHOICE. Is he to do nothing and then lose by 15 points? His only hope is to convince Americans that Obama is inexperienced and to suggest he's a radical freak with ties to unsavory characters like Ayers and Wright. Constantly saying such things WILL put doubt in some voters' minds. If McCain loses, he'll go back to being the likeable Senator he was before. C'mon folks...McCain wants to WIN.....so he's doing
  19. I think one of the big issues of this election IS about The Chosen One's skin.....as in, how THIN it is. You can't be serious. A few knuckleheads scream out at a rally and that really bothers you? Wait until he gets in office. Bush has been called every name in the book over the past 4 years. If Obama gets offended by the things you mention, he's gonna have a loooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnng 4 years in office.
  20. Another reason I think Jon Stewart is a dickhead.
