Before. I should have ducked out of this thread as soon as the election was called for Obama. I posted once since the latest fight began (several pages ago) but typed up a handful of posts since then that I didn't submit. I'm not wading into it any further than I (ill-advisedly) already have. I mentioned that, but no one seemed to care.

I wish I'd missed it.

I haven't been paying attention (and honestly don't really give a fuck), but did we ever find out what Jeter stole from Yankee Stadium?

No, it's not racism. It's narrow thinking. People vote for solitary reasons all the time: party affiliation, abortion views, Supreme Court appointments ... or, let's face it: because one candidate is more physically attractive than the other, or because a candidate is from the same town or state as the voter, or went to the same high school. A vote for a black candidate because he's black is just another entry on that list. It's not racist, as in "I would never vote for a white guy" -- because undoubtedly, many/most of those who voted for Obama because he's black also voted for non-black c

Has anything happened with Stonum's drunk driving arrest yet? edit: I guess he was already suspended one game, and has been playing since then. Never mind.

That's an old chestnut on this board ... no worries. Speaking of racist posts, I can't believe Ralph Nader used the phrase "Uncle Tom."

El F, nice work on your "Dear Penthouse" post.

The world's reaction to Obama's win

I like this one: -
I'm 3-3 in presidential voting. I confess that this never really occurred to me: Tokyo fears Obama win gives Chicago edge for '16 Olympics TOKYO (AP) -- Japanese Olympic officials fear the election of Barack Obama as U.S. president could make his home city of Chicago the favorite to host the 2016 Olympic Games and harm Tokyo's bid. Tokyo, Chicago, Madrid and Rio de Janeiro are the four cities in the running to host the 2016 Games. "I wonder how IOC members will react when Mr. Obama appears in a presentation for Chicago," Japanese Olympic Committee President Tsunekazu Takeda told J

Wow. Didn't see that one coming. RIP.

True. I'm sure Limbaugh isn't too pleased with the outcome, but it will eventually help him hike his advertising rates.

I hope Obama has the good sense to invite Dennis Haysbert to the White House someday. Obviously I can't say with any authority that Haysbert made Obama's election possible, but his potrayal of David Palmer on "24" probably helped certain people get used to the idea of a black man in the Oval Office. Did that affect the outcome of the election in any meaningful way? I have no idea. But I think Haysbert deserves a warm welcome at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue regardless.

The Secretary of the Interior, most likely.

He's retiring soon, so there's that.

Last night the Fox News coverage was also carried on the Fox broadcast stations.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. Hume was once a respected journalist -- when he worked for ABC. Fox News has brought out the partisan in him, and he has said some pretty jaw-dropping things there. That said, Fox's coverage last night was probably the closest to "fair and balanced" I've ever witnessed on that channel.

I think my main complaint is exactly what Bruce pointed to -- they transposed the songs to give Plant a better chance at keeping up with some of those notes. Even with the changes, his vocals were only OK -- he didn't embarrass himself, but he's just not the singer he once was. His style of singing from the band's heyday is an immensely difficult thing to sustain into old age. That said, I'd definitely rather see him out in front than some replacement singer. No Plant = No Led Zeppelin.

Hey Lou, I understand where you're coming from, but I think it's best that we dispense with the bitterness that's accumulated over the past eight years and look to the future. Bush is on his way out, and the country now has a chance to undo a lot of the damage he's done. Like it or not, Obama will need the help of some Bush/McCain loyalists to effect the sort of change he wants to bring forth. Though I don't agree with many of those in the mainstream media who believe that Obama needs to tack toward the center, I do think it's best for the president-elect to take the high road and be gracio

Wow. I like Cream, but they never struck me as an especially innovative band -- they were merely one of the better British blues-fetishist bands. As for Cream being "10 times the band that Led Zeppelin is," LZ had them outmanned at every position: Ginger Baker was undeniably great (and can still play), but he never could compete with Bonham. Bruce is a terrific bassist, but come on, John Paul Jones? And though Bruce's voice was (to my mind) the best asset in the band, Robert Plant was a much more dynamic and charismatic singer. And finally, I know a lot of people would probably disagree with

Yes, very interesting ... thanks, futureage1! -
"So say it once, say it loud: I'm black and I'm proud." Bush and Cheney would disagree.

That makes two of us. G'night!

Yahoo is showing Obama with slim leads in both states, with 96% counted in Indiana and 95% counted in N.C.

McCain made the phone call to Obama. That's all I needed to hear. I think I may go to bed soon.
