Laurie Anderson debuts concert for dogs

Utterly pointless. But, do what you want, Laurie. -
PIxies cancel Israel concert after deadly Gaza raid

Good for the Pixies. Not that their stand will change anything. -
I discovered why I hadn't been able to get fully into this one yet: I wasn't playing it loud enough. The louder the better.

I vote for "Pop Quiz Kids"

...but he didn't reverse the call.

In this case, I believe the ump was quoted as saying that he thought the runner beat the throw.

The Pillowy Stars

Yeah, but that seems to happen most of the time when there's an unexpected "safe" call at a base.

"The Royals?" No no no... The Passenger Sides The Kingpins The One Wings The Bull Black Novas The Heavy Metal Drummers OK, those are all kinda lame. But there must be better names for these teams.

A slippery slope to be sure, but this is a unique case where the blown call happened on what would have been the last play of the game. That one call goes the other way and the game is over. Ultimately I think I agree that the slippery-slope implications are too risky to make reversing the call after the fact a good idea ... but deep down, I kind of hope Selig does it anyway.

When people say "I feel badly for _____" or "I feel badly about ______." You feel bad, not badly. If you feel badly, that means there's something wrong with your ability to feel. Also: people saying "____ and I" when they should say "____ and me." This one's easy to avoid: just think of how you would construct the sentence if it was just you (dropping "____ and"). You wouldn't say "Billy went bowling with I," so why would you say "Billy went bowling with Johnny and I"?

...except that in baseball terms, it really wasn't very close. Any major-league-level umpire should get that play right 100% of the time. These guys are professionals and are trained to get those plays right. Obviously bad calls do happen from time to time, but this one wasn't just bad, it was inexplicably, unbelievably, inexcusably, absolutely horrible.

Totally screwed. Horrible call. I'm speechless.

x 1,000,000 I hate this.

Agreed (mostly).

He was always unmistakeably himself, yet he still managed to inhabit his characters. RIP. Also, the thread title is incorrect. It's 2010 now.

bands you might listen to more if they had a different singer
cryptique replied to Atticus's topic in Someone Else's Song
I've been pondering this question, but the truth is, I haven't thought of any band that I would definitely listen to more often with a different singer. If I don't listen to them already, there are probably additional reasons for that. -
Sports fans who use the word "we" when referring to their favorite teams, as if they actually play for those teams. "We lost a tough one tonight." No, you didn't. The team you cheer for did. You had nothing to do with it.

Aside from collecting music (I have tons of CDs and LPs, though not nearly as many as some people on this board), my only other collection is of vintage games. I mostly collect stuff that has great graphic design on the box, and/or is really old (and still in decent condition), and/or is something I remember from my childhood. The closet beneath the stairs is filled with games, but someday I hope to find a good way to display the collection -- though that probably won't happen at our current house.

I first knew about him from the neighbors' copy of The Game of Life, which was emblazoned with his face.
