  1. I'm just glad to see that the Saturday Audio Exchange is still around. I haven't lived in Chicago since '92, and back then I believe they were on Clark Street a little north of Diversey.
  2. Yeah, that was the reason I clicked on this thread -- new $5 vinyl would really be something.
  3. "I Want You" It's not even close to being one of my favorite Beatles songs, but I would love to hear what Wilco could do with this one onstage. I can imagine Glenn launching into a total freakout.
  4. White Sox sign Vizquel and Andruw Jones? What the hell? "The Chicago White Sox: Give us your tired, your poor fielders, your broken-down has-beens yearning to make a 25-man roster..."
  5. I don't drink beer very often these days, but when I do, I tend to drink the local stuff. Fortunately, Bell's is local.
  6. From what I've read, this is not an accurate representation of what's in those email messages. Yes, there's deceit ... but it's more about finding ways to ignore the FOIA requests of someone who has been badgering them and working to discredit their research. The author of the piece to which you linked is not a scientist and definitely has his own agenda.
  7. Haven't picked that ^ up yet, but I've been meaning to. Good, then?
  8. Living in Ann Arbor, it cracks me up to hear all the hopeful buzz about firing Rodriguez. This will not -- I repeat -- WILL NOT happen anytime soon, unless it's predicated on NCAA violations or another scandal. Everyone seems to think Michigan could hire Jim Harbaugh away from Stanford. Why? From what I've seen, he coaches a pro-style, drop-back passing offense, and the Wolverines are now two years into recruiting for a spread-option offense. It doesn't make much sense to switch back, unless Michigan is willing to extend its rebuilding process by at least another three years. Also, why wou
  9. From The Onion: 'The Office' Ends As Documentary Crew Gets All The Footage It Needs November 23, 2009 | Issue 45•48 SCRANTON, PA—After nearly six years on the air, NBC's hit show The Office ended abruptly Thursday when documentary filmmaker Ian Sheffield announced that he and his crew had all the footage of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company's Scranton branch required for their project. "In retrospect, we really over-shot this thing by an enormous margin," said Sheffield, adding that he likely had more than enough good material after filming a British workplace from 2001 to 2003. "We woul
  10. Back atcha on Patsy Cline (who probably should be on my list) and Kelly Willis. Also, if I expanded my list to encompass a few additional genres, Nina Simone would be at or near the top. Others who might crack the list include Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, and Aretha Franklin.
  11. My top ten, in alphabetical order: Kate Bush Neko Case Sandy Denny Chrissie Hynde Rickie Lee Jones Aimee Mann Joni Mitchell Sam Phillips Gillian Welch Thalia Zedek Honorable mentions: Joan Armatrading Rebecca Gates Emmylou Harris Patti Smith That's strictly rock/folk/white people's music. If I include soul/R&B/blues, the list will look a bit different...
  12. Every time my girlfriend sees Tomlin on TV, she says "Omar Epps coaches the Steelers?"
  13. Oooh, I'll ride that train. We need to find room for Conor Oberst on that list, though. MM, the Decembrists, Conor and Arcade Fire all suffer from - among other transgressions - SAV: Severely Affected Vocals syndrome. You people are alright by me.
  14. I can see that. I can only take her in small doses, and that's probably why.
  15. I haven't had time to listen to these much yet ... just got through A.M. last night. Will spend some time with Being There this weekend. SO good on vinyl.
  16. I think they showed us the paper with her story in it at one point. In fact, I think that's how Trinity was able to recognize Lundy (in that scene where he purposely bumped into him). I thought it was weird the way he acknowledged that the shooter would be someone his own height. But I doubt it was him.
  17. Rules? Sucks? Exists? For my part, I think she's a formerly great songwriter who's completely run out of ideas in recent years. I have not particularly enjoyed anything she's put out this decade.

    I'm Engaged!

My old bandmate has a 1964 SG, and that thing sounds incredible. I've always loved the SG sound. Fun fact I learned from him: "SG" stands for "solid guitar."
  19. More on the Eggo crisis... The Waffle Crisis Hits Home in San Jose By Lori Preuitt and Garvin Thomas NBCBayArea.com Eggo Way has got to be one of San Jose's shortest streets. You can drive it for all of about 20 feet before running smack into the gates of Kellog's Eggo factory. Still, even from this side of the bars, you hear a factory humming away at top speed, doing its best to keep up with a nation desperate not to let go of their Eggos. Oh, Eggo. Kelsie Brady, for one, has heard news of the Eggo shortage and she reacted by scooping up some of the dwindling supply at the Cos
  20. Trust me, I have no luck in that area. I sometimes buy a ticket just for fun when the Mega Millions jackpot gets really huge, and more often than not my ticket doesn't have a single number from the winning set.
  21. Seconded. I believe I recently listed it among my desert island 5. ...or best of the '90s, or something. NP:
  22. Lincecum wins the NL Cy Young. I saw only two MLB games this year ... but managed to see both Cy Young winners.
