I saw Hornsby (& The Range) back in the '80s, when he was at the peak of his popularity. A friend had lawn tickets to an outdoor venue, so I went along. It was actually a pretty good show. I've won a lot of tickets in my day, but perhaps my best streak was in 1997, when I won tickets to U2, followed a few weeks later by the Rolling Stones. I probably wouldn't have paid to see either of those shows, but I'm glad I went to both. I know I also won other tickets that summer, but I don't recall what for.

We watched the whole series via Netflix over the summer, and were blown away. Possibly my favorite television series of all time.

Kalamazoo, Michigan had a thriving and interesting music scene in the '90s. Rollinghead were, to me, the cream of that crop. They released three CDs, including a live album (how many local bands put out live albums?). Their last album came out in 1994. Copies of two of their CDs can still be found pretty easily online, and there's even some streaming audio samples at Amazon and AllMusicGuide. Last month they held a reunion show in the outdoor beer garden at Bell's Eccentric Café in Kalamazoo (the home base of the people who make Oberon) and there were hundreds of people there. It was like

When will the Lions finally get a win?

I agree with this. If I had to bet, I'd say the Rams. -
I surely hope Jeff doesn't read this board

I can't get past this. What the fuck is "cancn"? -
Attention peeps in NYC and surrounding areas ... tapings for the new season have been announced. If I lived in the area, I would definitely want to attend that 9/21 show. Hell, all three of 'em. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SPECTACLE: ELVIS COSTELLO WITH... fuses the best elements of talk and music television and invites viewers to enjoy an intimate conversation between host Costello and his guests, punctuated by rare musical performances by Costello, his guests and a wide variety of musicians. I don't disagree with this. I use good headphones at work and have good speakers at home, so I hear the improvements, but I doubt I'd hear much difference on my car's audio system (stock Honda system circa 2004) or on an iPod with standard-issue earbuds.

I know him mainly through his work in The Soft Boys with Robyn Hitchcock. He didn't really write for them, though, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm enjoying it to a certain extent. I like the guitar work quite a bit, and the rhythm section is solid if unspectacular. The songs are ... just OK. Not great, not awful. Just OK. And yeah, I don't really like the main singer's voice. The other guy sounds a bit more interesting. Not a bad purchase, but not something I'm likely to spin on a regular basis after its initial breaking-in period (which is ongoing). NP:

I love that album. A new GLP album is always something to look forward to.

Been listening to this over the past couple of days. Can't say it's blowing me away. Sounds great, but the songs just aren't that compelling.

My sole objection to the U.S. version is that it's only 29 minutes long. I've never been a big fan of "Drive My Car," so its absence on the U.S. version is a positive for me.

So, how many Bears fans who rushed out and bought Jay Cutler jerseys are now sewing a "B" over the "C" to turn them in to Kevin Butler jerseys? Probably a little early for that, but I'm enjoying the fact that Butler and Cutler wore the same number.
-
Is this true for both the U.K. and U.S. tracklistings? Personally, I like the U.S. version of the album a bit better.

Well, she did manage to make it all about her and not Clijsters, so you may have a point. Perhaps she views $10,000 as a small price to pay for keeping the spotlight on her a bit longer.

I'm a lifelong Bulls fan and huge Jordan fan ... but from what I've read about his speech, even I have to agree that he's an enormous tool for doing what he did. This will tarnish his legacy far more than his three retirements and his incompetence as a front-office executive.

Urlacher probably out for the season following a wrist injury? WTF? Admittedly, I know nothing about this injury aside from what's being reported, but how does a WRIST injury keep a linebacker out for the whole season? I know, he has to be able to grab guys and tackle them ... but I can't help but feel like he's wussing out here. (Easy for me to say, sitting on my couch and never having played a single down of organized football.)

Interesting that no has mentioned the date revisited

Do we have the same mother? Jeezus, you've described mine to a T. Not only does she push in exactly that manner, she absolutely cannot let a pleasant, spontaneous family moment pass without commenting on how wonderful it is, thereby ruining it for everyone. -

I understand why one might have expected to see a thread about 9/11 here, because we talk about every other coddamned thing. I'm sure there were 9/11 anniversary threads in the past. This year no one started one. There are any number of reasons why this happened, starting with the somewhat lower board traffic (from some people, anyway) since the big crash earlier this year. But I also think there's a point beyond which it's no longer necessary for many of us to endlessly air our feelings about such events in public year after year. Many people have engaged in that sort of thing every year -
Yeah, no idea what happened there. If you're going to try to catch the other team with twelve men on the field, you damn sure better do it. Seems like it would make more sense to snap it to the punter and punt the ball, then hope for a flag -- especially when it's 4th and 11.
