How Many Forum Posters Does It Take To Change A Light Bulb?
Dreamin' replied to Mrs. Peel's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Also, Dreamin' will point out that the electric light bulb was invented by a Canadian. -
Very cool!

Actually, no. But I'm very intrigued! I adore Lisa Marr, but I've kind of lost track of her over the years.
-
Wow, indeed!

He admired Richard Nixon, that's all they need to know. Oh, the sweet irony!
-
No, that just shows how little you knew about Canada back then.

Don't forget, Lord Black of Crossharbour is no longer a Canadian citizen. (Thank you, Jean Chr

I don't think Canadians and Americans are really so different at heart. And if Canadians aren't more vigilant about protecting public health care and remaining true to our values, we could end up with similar problems in the future. For me, a society is truly great if people are able to live (and die) with dignity, regardless of race or class. We still have a long way to go, but I think access to health care is the foundation of that dream. Tommy Douglas said it best, "My friends, watch out for the little fellow [fat guy] with an idea."

I agree. It seems like a conflict of interest to me. After seeing SiCKO, I understand why Americans can be so litigious. I think I would sue anything that moved.
-
For me, the hardest stuff to watch in SiCKO was the stories about the kids. I was thinking about Kate and your daughter, too, Graham.

My personal experiences with universal health care have been overwhelmingly positive. Maybe I've been lucky, but I honestly haven't encountered any barriers to receiving timely care. I'm usually able to see the GP (of my choice) within a few days. If I don't want to wait that long, I go to a walk-in clinic and bring a book to read while I wait. (I've spent much more time waiting to catch a flight than waiting to see a doctor.) I received excellent prenatal care, I was able to book a private hospital room for peanuts, and a public health nurse visited me at home after the birth to help with

Perhaps we should leave the pointless nitpicking and other distractions to CNN, since that's about all they are good for. Again, I think that MrRain is right on target. ikol, I remember that you once mentioned that you planned to go to medical school. Are you happy with the status quo? If not, what changes would you like to see?

Oops, sorry! After I posted that, I wondered if you were talking about a different interview. Maybe I just expect people to tune me out because I talk about Canada too much.
-
That is an excellent point. (I remember that you've said it before.) All this hair splitting is just an attempt to distract people. I thought it was interesting that CNN made the story all about Michael Moore supposedly "fudging the facts" rather than using SiCKO as a jumping off point to talk about the real issues. In Canada, universal health care (warts and all) is a source of national pride and Tommy Douglas is a hero to many. Canada needs to make changes to reduce wait times, but we seem to be about as stuck in our own rut as the US is right now. Some would like to see if a European

I usually watch BBC or CBC for news, but CNN is great for taking the political temperature in the US. ... And I read the TTL forum to reassure myself that things aren't as bleak as they seem on CNN. (It's nice to know that there are some kindred spirits out there.) I love to follow US politics because 1) it's never boring (unfortunately, we live in interesting times) 2) what goes on south of the border will affect Canadians one way or another. SiCKO will likely have as much (if not more) impact on the future of universal health care in Canada as it will in the US.

That was on yesterday. I guess they're replaying it. Now I know no one reads my posts.

Hannah enjoyed her first visit to the Kwik-E-Mart. No big lines (just regular 7-11 busy) and we even found a parking spot right out in front! Unfortunately, they were all out of Krusty O's.

I remember the early days of the war when CNN showed computer animation of US weapons like it was a video game. One of the strangest parts of the intro was when they played a soundbite of an unidentified woman saying, "he has played fast and loose with the facts." (Even in the transcript, she is the only person who is not identified.) WTF???? And Lou Dobbs... Even though Moore comes off as shrill, a bit paranoid, and possibly racist (mocking Gupta's name at the end wasn't too smart), I think he did a pretty good job of remaining focused on the issues and directing people to his website.

White Stripes jam with Inuit elders, rock Iqaluit
Dreamin' replied to Dreamin''s topic in Someone Else's Song
I won't be there, but I hope you post a review. Have fun! -
Such beautiful babies! *sigh* I can't wait to meet her in August!

Did anyone just catch the live interview with Michael Moore on CNN? lmao!

jPod hits very close to home for me because I work just a stone's throw away from Electronic Arts in Burnaby. I particularly loved the part where he wrote about the thousands of crows that roost near the Willingdon exit on Hwy 1. In the winter months, when I'm leaving work at dusk, the sky is black with crows. Never pass up a chance to hear Coupland speak if he's on a book tour, etc. He will always say or do something that will blow your mind and make you laugh out loud.
