  1. Thanks, Paul. I don't know why I read these (other than to torture myself). PS: Time to update your blog.
  2. I saw them under the stars at Deer Lake Park on Thursday. The stage was set up in front of the lake (I regret leaving my camera at home) and it looked like the 10,000 or so people on the lawn stood throughout the performance. Win remarked that he was glad to have a break from playing theatres. Too many great moments to mention, but My Body Is a Cage was definitely one of the highlights. If I remember correctly, Rebellion was the "recessional" and then they returned for an encore which ended with Wake Up. This was my fourth AF show (my first was the Sasquatch Festival, almost two years ag
  3. Laura! Wish I could be there to celebrate with you.
  4. This probably says more about me than it does about Halifax, but one of my favourite things to do there is visit the cemetaries. The Old Burying Ground is a fascinating place and the Titanic graves at the Fairview Lawn Cemetary are also worth a look. Old Town Lunenburg (a UNESCO world heritage site) is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. (And not just because they have a great cemetary. ) If you go, be sure to check out the tall ships.
  5. baab will note the lack of ABBA on that list. (I guess they were more of a singles band.)
  6. A woman I used to work with missed the news about 9/11 because she was on a canoe trip in the BC wilderness in Sept 2001. That might do it.
  7. Good docs have been made about the same topics, but almost nobody sees them. In 2003, The Fifth Estate (CBC) broadcast an excellent doc, Conspiracy Theories, that covered the same ground as Moore's Farenheit 9/11 (released the following year). I bet the number of people on this board who saw the CBC doc can be counted on one finger. As Graham pointed out, Moore is brilliant at getting people's attention. He brings the marginal to the mainstream, but his gift for socratic irony and clowning around to entertain and inform is also his weakness (looking like a clown). Full disclosure: Roger
  8. My two experiences with Musictoday (ha!) were enough to convince me to avoid them this time. Once, my stuff arrived smashed up and/or missing (I think the lazy sled dogs at Canada Post used it as a chew toy), and the Sunken Treasure DVD that I preordered arrived weeks after the release date*. To add insult to injury, I paid a ridiculous amount for shipping because it was an "international" order. (Sorry, I know this isn't helpful to those of you who are still waiting.) From now on, it's Amazon, my local indie, or merch table only. *Edit: To be fair, they did say that "international" ord
  9. Interesting. This season has been a bit stale, so I'm glad they're going to try something new.
  10. I think he handled the Jay Farrar question well. It's a no-win situation and that was the best way to get the interview back on track. As for Jay, he seems to give Jeff a lot of power (oddly). I'm sure he regrets having opened his mouth in the first place. Ugh.
  11. For years, I've been thinking, "El Famous would really love Sloan, why doesn't he go see them live?" Have fun!
  12. So far, I'm enjoying being an older mum - it's kind of a family tradition. My grandmother was 40 when my mother was born, and my mother turned 39 the year she had me. I always joke that fertility increases with age in my family. My parents were very level headed and mellow, but now I realize that maybe they were just exhausted.
  13. By the time Hannah hits puberty, I should be going through menopause. I'll let you know how that turns out.
  14. MOM - JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE : Mother, Mom, Mama, Mommy, Momma, Ma JOB DESCRIPTION: Long term, team players needed, for challenging permanent work in an, often chaotic environment. 15. I usually give people shit for doing stuff like that. My best guess is that it's (hopefully!) meant to be ironic - maybe poking fun at the idea that SBS is a "happy" album? Of course, you just know the magazine has to use a shocking image, even though they probably took loads of pictures.
