  1. I really don't have a favourite Neil Young song, but lately I've been appreciating "Cinnamon Girl." The outro (the guitars, the handclaps, and the giddy, "Woo") tells the story better than the lyrics. I also really love "Revolution Blues." How many songwriters would have the courage to sing from Manson's POV and be able to do it with enough genuine empathy to make it work?
  2. I always skip past "A Man Needs A Maid" on Harvest, but it's one of my favourite performances on Massey Hall. Neil should have left that line alone because it reveals a deeper meaning. ... Or maybe that's why he took it out. (I've always thought the Robin Hood explanation was highly suspect. )
  3. More food for thought (pun intended): An American's guide to Canadianisms Maybe it's a northern thing?
  4. Now, that's a birthday celebration! :monkey
  5. That is strange (if true) because Canada is a major wheat producer.
  6. Ah, I just heard about that. Who knew that could be an issue? Very sad.
  7. When your friends and family (who aren't Wilco fans) register on VC, because PM is the easiest way to reach you.
  8. Wonderin' is bulletproof. It's just impossible to ruin that song.
  9. This is just heartbreaking! I feed my pug, Polly, Pet's First kibble, which was not affected by the recall. There should be a criminal investigation if someone tampered with the food.
  10. In Shakey, Neil claims that he recorded the vocal for Will To Love, "in one sitting, in front of the fireplace.... I have never sung it except for that one time."
  11. The video for Wonderin' is great though. I remember seeing it when I was a teenager and thinking, WTF? My top 5 today: Tonight's the Night (my favourite, but probably not the best place to start) Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere On The Beach Massey Hall (can't stop listening to this) Live Rust
  12. Neon Bible is #2 on the Canadian charts, just after Live at Massey Hall. (Because you care... Sure you do!)
  13. Ding, ding, ding! If you haven't seen the interviews, I highly recommend Nardwuar vs. Henry Rollins (my personal fave) and Nardwuar vs. Snoop Dogg (May 2000).
  14. You gotta love the sleep deprived, stream of consciousness rambling of a new dad.
  15. Thanks everyone! I spent the day at home, hiding from the rain, but I made the most of it by watching the NY Massey Hall DVD and ordering Indian food. Hannah also gave me a wonderful birthday present: she slept through the night!
