  1. Pirated 'Sicko' clips uploaded to YouTube
  2. Hopefully, 'Sicko' will serve as a cautionary tale for us. In Canada, right wing politicians and private investors who want to cash in are always telling us that so-called "public-private partnerships" are the solution to wait times. I am not convinced. I had to stop reading Maude Barlow's book about deep integration because it was too depressing. This really sent a chill down my spine:
  3. Congrats and Happy Father's Day!
  4. Hilarious! I hope it makes an appearance on the west coast this summer.
  5. I've always thought that Marquee Moon would be cool because it already sounds a bit like a ringtone.
  6. I really have to find that mp3 of the Hinterland Who's Who music that Sam sent me.
  7. Not really. I suppose it's unfair to compare post 9/11 America to the innocence of Canada in the swingin' 60's. I just wanted to point out that great leaders and intellectuals (Trudeau certainly was both) can be pop culture icons as well. I also wanted to remember what it was like to have a cool Prime Minister.
  8. Why so prissy, America? Barack Obama reminds me of Pierre Trudeau. Trudeau wasn't a good looking man by any stretch of the imagination (unlike Obama - rowrr), but he was super charismatic and women loved him. When I was a baby, my mom used me as a prop just to get close to him. You go, mom! If I could choose between meeting one of the Beatles or meeting Pierre Trudeau, I'd pick Trudeau (RIP) in a heartbeat. Yet despite all the Trudeaumania hype, he was anything but a lightweight. In fact, he was probably our last great visionary. If you don't want Obama, we'll take him. Almost a

    Vancouver date

You're right, there really aren't many mid-size venues in Vancouver. The Orpheum isn't the greatest place to see a rock band, but you could do a lot worse so this might not be pretty. On the other hand, Wilco under the stars at Malkin Bowl would be awesome! Maybe Jeff wants to go running on the Stanley Park seawall.

Hard to know if that's good news or bad news. I guess we shall see.
  11. When I first saw that headline, I was already excited by the prospect of buying a bunch of Neil Young stamps. Anne Murray? Not so much.
  12. Stamps honour iconic Canadian musicians I can think of someone who should have made the cut. How about you?
  13. Speaking of elephants, Barbara Gowdy's "The White Bone" is wonderful.

Ah, this is excellent news! I was beginning to worry that they might pass us by again. I'm a bit disappointed that it's not a GA venue, but the Orpheum is still pretty cool. Try the presale, but don't panic if you come up empty. I think only about 10% of the tix are available during the presale, and the seats are often so-so. Wilco usually doesn't sell out super fast in Vancouver, but it has been a few years since they played here so who knows what will happen. Nice to see more Canadian dates as well. Now they just have to discover Saskachewan.
  15. She might be old enough for her first Wilco show this summer.
  16. You can't be twenty on Sugar Mountain Though you're thinking that you're leaving there too soon You're leaving there too soon.
  17. Absolutely! I've always wanted to stay at the Ice Hotel near Quebec City, but it's incredibly expensive. Very cool though! (No pun intended.)
