  1. That song always tears me up. (And the Wembley version has the missing "Oh Canada" verse! )
  2. Leonard Cohen's Seven Immutable Laws of Business Maybe that's why Leonard Cohen is broke.

    blisters!

I'm glad that the members of Wilco have better things to do than post unflattering pictures of us on a website and gossip about how much weight those "lazy mouse potatoes" may or may not have gained. Sucks to be in the public eye. I'd go crazy. Seriously.
  4. We don't like to think about it, but a lot of this probably ends up as medical waste - e.g., I wanted to donate my cord blood to the Alberta Cord Blood Bank, but unfortunately I'm too old. Let's hope they're screening for HIV, etc. Yikes!
  5. Baby is due in late September or early October. Meditation and breathing are great strategies that I intend to use as well. Anxiety and muscle tension make pain much worse. I guess you never really know what to expect, so I'll just try to be as prepared as possible and let nature take it's course.
  6. I need to hear more positive stories about childbirth. (Nat?) The more I learn, the more confident I feel. I've been thinking about seeing a clinical psychologist to learn hypnosis as a strategy for managing pain, but I'm open to nitrous oxide or an epidural if I really need it. As a female comedian once said, "childbirth is a terrible time to give up drugs." My greatest fear is getting cut!
  7. That's awesome. It's good to know your rights!
  8. Thanks. Right now, I'm preoccupied with getting through the birth , but I've heard that breastfeeding can be really challenging for some moms. Wish me luck! ... I might hire a doula to help out.
  9. Congratulations! My first is due in two months and I plan to breastfeed throughout my maternity leave (1 yr). Fortunately, breastfeeding (or expressing milk in public) is protected under the code of human rights in British Columbia, so if I'm ever hassled, it's nice to know that there's legislation to back me up. I hope that will be true for all moms and babies someday.
  10. If you're looking for a great Leonard Cohen film, I highly recommend the NFB doc from 1965, Ladies and Gentlement... Mr. Leonard Cohen. I really enjoyed I'm Your Man, but I think it's very difficult for other performers to capture the dark, wry humour and intensity of his songs (no one can do it like the man himself)... although Rufus Wainwright and the Handsome Family came pretty close. Every moment that Leonard was on screen was mesmerising and left me wanting more. I also loved RW's story about meeting LC for the first time. BTW, if you enjoy his poetry, check out Book of Longing.
  11. I love viatroy's signature. That would be a great thread title!
  12. In the Van With Neil Young He's such a tease! (But my heart beat a little faster just reading that.)
  13. I think stardog would be a great doula (he could read all those inspirational Ziggy cartoons, etc.)
