Vinyl Spoilers (don't look if you don't want to see)
willywoody replied to lowden11's topic in Just A Fan
so it's just a single lp? I figured they'd done the 2 lp thing but I guess at 43 minutes 1 slab'll do. Thanks for answering what turns out to be an inane question. (insert Homer Simpson here) -
it's like voting for the best nba player without Lebron or Kobe being an option is all I'm saying. I do see you have similar thoughts as mine on WTA, though. I love, or at least like, the first four songs but after that it gets real mellow unless I missed something on the npr stream. I really don't like You and I. Just my preferences, though. Tweedy is a great songwriter and I'm sure other songs speak to other listeners in ways that don't resonate with me.

http://www.needledoctor.com/Denon-DP-29F-Turntable?sc=2&category=46 this denon might be a good buy if you don't have the required phono input with RIAA equalization on your receiver. DAKmart has refurbished units for 83 dollars. otheriwse you'd be looking at least 50 bucks for a cheapo phono preamp, 100 dollar range for a decent budget phono preamp like the NAD.

I've only done one listen of WTA but after the first 3 songs it goes downhill to boredom for me, so SBS I guess, the lesser of two evils in my book.

I don't know, they're kind of so-so.

Vinyl Spoilers (don't look if you don't want to see)

how do the songs break down by side, ie which songs are on which sides? -
Nah, I'm happily married. I think she was on x or something and liked my colorful shirt. Later that evening another woman came up to a fried of mine and "I just wanna ***" He noticed she was wearing a wedding or engagement ring just in time for her fiancee/husband to walk up. It was quite the crazy evening.

according to the current drummer, frank's taking a break. the recent show was not as good as the other two i've caught since they reunited, less energy, less guitars blazing. the blown pa speaker didn't help. we all got drunk anyways and even I got hit on by a 22 year old (i'm 43) I do believe she was so drunk her eyes were crossed, or maybe they're just like that all the time.

hey kev, what's happened to your blog? i caught the rosebuds about 5 years ago. i liked 'em but i imagine they've changed some in that time. i always hear a song of theirs every few months but never been moved to pick anything up by them. (btw, citizen kane is playing right this very instant)

Im sorry I never got to see him play again after he left the band. I was just playing copy of a 1997 show last weekend and reminiscing about the band back in those days. I wish I'd had the chance to thank him for his part in making the "soundtrack" that helped get me through a rough part in my life. The changes in Wilco's sound during his tenure then led me to explore many other types of music I had never listened to before. I am grateful.

I have a nitty gritty and it works well. I agree it seems expensive for what it is, but if you listen to vinyl mostly at home, as I do, then it becomes indispensable. also, I bought one for my brother for Christmas on ebay for a few dollars less.

saw the charleston, sc show. nearly sold out the music farm, 500 or so person venue. mike watt was awesome, loved the stooges' fun house cover, barely recognized it. dino jr were good but not great. they were really loud, though. no surprise there. the pa at the music farm was replaced a couple of years ago and it is massive. add that to the band's arsenal of amps and they were louder than jucifer.

Lambchop, Bonnie "Prince" Billy or M Ward?
willywoody replied to stagerug's topic in Someone Else's Song
my 2 cents on the 'chop: I prefer Is a Woman to Nixon but they both are good. I still think What Another Man Spills is my favorite. Thriller is real good, too. They are best enjoyed live if you get the chance. It's great to see how all the members create these wonderful songs. -
Pitchfork Media's reaction to the new record
willywoody replied to Clint09eastwood's topic in Just A Fan
my local indie store owner said the same thing to me. -
one thing to remember , the soundboard guys were gonna make sure MBV were the loudest. they were the headliners, and supposedly "the loudest band around." I'll submit A Place To Bury Stranger as one really loud band that would give these bands mentioned a run for their money.

Jason Molina/Magnolia Electric Co/Songs:Ohia
willywoody replied to bweil's topic in Someone Else's Song
i say start there, too. trials and errors is great, too, and more rocking. -
i agree with not spreading the albums out over 4 sides. it really does kill the mood getting up every three songs and flipping sides. problem is that the average play time of a new release is beyond what can be held on two sides. so you can cut off a few songs, put them on a 45 (like dino jr did on their last release), put the songs on three sides if they fit (hayes carll, explosions in the sky) or do what wilco did and spread them over 4 sides. one benefit is that no music is recorded in the inner third of the vinyl and thereby, there's less chance for misstracking that will be more prono

nothing's certain, even if we'll be alive at the end of april. it's a lot more certain than an overseas amazon entry and a blurb from an indy record store, though.
-
so y'all know this is official now? music direct is taking preorders.
-
I saw that, too. It'll probably be the first of April before we have more certainty. By then they should be pressed and preparing to ship to retailers. They might be delaying the announcement until they have product in hand.

yeh, i just missed out on trace as i got back into vinyl 2 years ago. my brother still has an unopen copy any copy i've seen on ebay has commanded a premium. i haven't been super happy with the sound on wst or straightaways, either. not a whole lot better than the cd which isn't usually the case on my setup. ok back to wilco programming, thanks for the answers. so we may be getting vinyl and the live dvd in april, save your pennies.
-
how'd you luck into a copy of Trace?
-
http://www.grimeys.com/news.html read the first paragraph real slow and then clean up your mess!
-
to answer my own question, i see no vinyl mentioned on the label site. too bad as the song from the new cd they're streaming is a beautiful acoustic piece that would sound nice.
-
i wonder if it'll be on vinyl? i popped in Interstellar Space Revisited the other day and was grooving on it.
