Jeff Tweedy -- 3/13/10, Chicago, IL
magazine called sunset replied to bböp's topic in After The Show
Such a great one-two punch of benefit shows. As usual, fantastic to see everyone in from all around the country. The highlight for me from this show was actually Poor Places, which was performed with such intense emotion. So glad that Russ got his Shakin' Sugar in on the second night...amazing stuff! I wonder if Jeremy ever paid up the $30 that he owed for strumming the other five chords, or if it was forgiven after he got smacked in the back of the head with the guitar!? That kid was in another world as he was leaving the stage, and is not likely to forget that experience in a good many yea -

Wilco 7.03.09 Red Rocks Amphitheatre
magazine called sunset replied to ditty's topic in After The Show
This took me a while to post, but here's a visual representation of the storm we all survived while waiting in line for the Red Rocks show - this monsoon came after sound check, but before the gates opened. The storm dumped 2 inches in an hour, with a hail storm thrown in to ensure we got the message. The picture was taken after about 40 minutes under our tarp, with everyone holding the edges down against strong winds, and after the volume of rain was so dramatic that it started cascading down the stairs where the crowd was waiting in line. We all ended up with red-stained pants, socks and sho -

Yeah, we saw one in the city too. Husband didn't want to hold up traffic for a pic...understandable, I suppose. Belmont and Broadway.

Row J, eh? I think I may have been directly in front of you! Wait up?

These ought to sell out ridiculously quickly now!

I concur. (Don't know how old it is though.) That song was dark and beautiful, and I think a recording would be amazing as it was played last night. So great to see so many of you from the Residency shows, and also nice to meet some new people. Hope to see you all again soon! As has already been posted, kind of a short show. But I think that we may be spoiled, as many artists don't come close to playing as long as a typical JT solo set. Kingpin was silly. And my friend who made the trek with me was born and raised in Pekin, so the fact that it actually got played was a treat. A goofy d

Jeff Tweedy solo tour winter 2009?
magazine called sunset replied to Three dollars and 63 cents's topic in Just A Fan
There's no shortage of places to eat and drink, both in campus town, in downtown Champaign, and downtown Urbana. Haven't been down to the area in several years, but The Office was a great place for beverages in downtown Urbana, and apparently White Horse is open again in Champaign - that will make my husband happy! (As that was the leading reason given for not going to this show originally.) As for food, Radio Maria's was our favorite place to eat. We'll be dining there again for sure. (Though I hear that the tapas menu is mediocre.) To stay, if you feel like splurging, the Union has a hotel, -
How could anyone forget Bubba!? Can't wait for another great experience this year! And for multiple causes to boot. Good times...

Can I get something off my chest?
magazine called sunset replied to NewMadridMO's topic in Just A Fan
Very nicely and succinctly worded! I'm still enamored. -
Great show. "Nudie suits" all around. I picked out owls, skulls, kitty cats, whales and dragonflies as embellishments. Crazy cool. Two songs were left off the official setlist; Heavy Metal Drummer and I'm the Man Who Loves You. One new song played - listed as One Wing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the set: Misunderstood IATTBYH You Are My Face Impossible Germany It's Just That Simple (!!!!) Handshake Drugs Pot Kettle Black One Wing Spiders (Kidsmoke) A Shot in the Arm Jesus, Etc. Hate it Here (w/The Total Pros) Can't Stand It (w/TTP) Walken (w/TTP) Monday (w/TTP) Outtasite, Outtamind Ya

The band's setlist was: Hummingbird Ashes Sunken T Mountain Bed Company Face Pot Kettle War Shot Seeds Jesus Impossible Wishful Thinking California Stars Walken I'm the Man BREAK Via Chicago (NOT PLAYED) Hate It Here ELT HMD BREAK Misunderstood (NOT PLAYED) Far Far Away (NOT PLAYED) Redeyed/I Got You Casino Queen Hoodoo Voodoo In the stead of the songs not played, they did play Late Greats, Kingpin, and Outta Site Outta Mind. There may have been one more, but can't recall! Really an amazing show. I made a fool out of myself way up front with my husband. Really great way to start

100% agree with you, Greg. What an amazing run of shows, and captured just how I remember on film. Thanks for the documentation, chaslor! Can't wait for the grand finale tonight...

EPM - You must have been just to my right then! I was directly in front of Nels...was that you?

"I don't think Wilco would have punished the whole audience unless the fight was escalating to the point where innocent bystander were at risk." The fight broke out just behind me, and it did escalate pretty dramatically...to the point that the instigator was punching his female companion in the face. WAY too much alcohol consumption and too little security reaction/presence. Wonder if we'll see more security on the remainder of the tour... Phenomenal show regardless. Being that close to Nels and being able to truly appreciate the nuances in his style was more than I can express with word
