  1. Well, Jeff does talk about cock a lot on the DVD. And this might be the lamest picture of a rock band ever: Looks like a casting call for Revenge of the Nerds V: Geek Chorus.
  2. Dude might wanna hit the gym every now and again. And that guy right up front putzing with the cellphone - I'm sure it was something that COULD NOT WAIT 'till after the show. Hope Jeff wasn't distracting the guy.
  3. From a Yep Roc Records e-mailing: Nick Lowe song on Fox show, "Bones" An acoustic version of Nick Lowe's "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Happiness?" will be played on the Fox Show "Bones" on Tuesday, January 23rd. The song will also be available for purchase exclusively at the Yep Roc Web Shop on that date. Don't miss it! Hope Elvis Costello tunes in, at least.
  4. That was it? A few WHOOOs between verses? Frankly, the librarians with their shushes were more irritating to my ears. Otherwise, the crowd appeared pretty attentive to the show - very little chatter.
  5. Mamas & Papas Member Doherty Dies at 66 By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: January 19, 2007 Filed at 6:44 p.m. ET MISSISSAUGA, Ont. (AP) -- Denny Doherty, one-quarter of the 1960s folk-rock group the Mamas and the Papas, known for their soaring harmony on hits like ''California Dreamin''' and ''Monday, Monday,'' died Friday at 66. His sister Frances Arnold said the singer-songwriter died at his home in Mississauga, a city just west of Toronto, after a short illness. He had suffered kidney problems following surgery last month and had been put on dialysis, Arnold said. The group bu
  6. Actual quote from his radio show today: "Every time you go for security, you give up a little freedom." Of course, he was calling about spending on programs like social security and medicare. But still, it's progress.
  7. Every guy who opened this thread is totally gay!!!
  8. The original was about 45 minutes too long! The 1974 Stardust is a much better rise-and-fall-of-a-band movie, if you can find it. And, of course, the incredible The Commitments.
  9. That's bull. The live recording is being used as a marketing tool to enhance the deal, make the tickets more attractive and drive up the price. Not that I really give a crap.
  10. So I'm watching the BCS title game, and a 1980s Super Bowl breaks out!
  11. I Am Trying To Break Yer Heart - was at the Chicago premiere, saw it at the art theater in Cleveland (terrible sound). Also saw Goodfellas about 5 times at the theater.
  12. I was at work sitting across the desk from a huge cowboys fan, and said "bad snap" as a goof just as Romo fumbled the snap. He took it OK, having had his expectations greatly deminished by the loss to Detroit last week. I was hoping that crybaby Holmgren would get knocked out of the playoffs.
  13. "Don't Be Scared" is real good. Also the classic lo-fi "Hi, How Are You" is offered on a CD along with "Continued Story" which is a collection of studio recordings, if you wanna hear Danny sans hiss.
  14. I'm hardly watching regular movies anymore. I set these apart from Moment in Time docs (I Am Trying to Break Yer Heart, Spinal Tap) or concert films. Some of the best: Beatles Anthology Devil and Daniel Johnston Be Here to Love Me (TVZ) We Jam Econo (Minutemen) Fearless Freaks (Flaming Lips) No Direction Home (Dylan) End of the Century (Ramones) Any others out there about which I should know?
  15. Are you asking does she put on a "$70 Show" with fireworks, dancers and costume changes? No. Are you asking whether $70 for a show is a rip-off? You don't stay in the biz this long by ripping people off. My advice would be to go to the library, borrow a couple of her CDs, listen, then decide whether you want to invest the time and money into witnessing a performance.
  16. Centro-Matic at ACL was amazing. very cool seeing them on the big stage, Scott Danbom on the Jumbotron!
  17. How's Stiggs taking the news?
  18. Met him last spring backstage after a show - nice guy, even though I was interrupting his post-gig whiskey. RIP to one of the last real blues men.
  19. From the Washington Post: The End of the United Kingdom? London, England - One of the world's most successful multinational states, and a key ally of the United States, could in a few months time start to unravel: I mean, of course, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The process will be set in motion if the pro-independence Scottish National Party (SNP) ends up the largest party in the Scottish parliament after elections next May. This is a distinct possibility. The break up of the UK will not be inevitable even if the SNP do dominate the parliament, but it will cert
  20. Here's the Letterman segment. I know it's not his best moment, but the guy seems to ramble a bit - little wonder the audience was yackin'.
