  1. I am not ashamed to admit that during the opening shots I had goosebumps and got choked up.
  2. VC proves yet again that I am not the only person in the world that knows [iNSERT ARTIST]... Awesome. Listened to my old Labour of Lust and Nick the Knife LPs this weekend. Bought tix to see him on the 20th in NYC.
  3. On a lark, I became a member at the Film Forum in NYC. Gets you half off prices to movies as well as supporting an independent film house that shows remastered versions of THIS (saw it last night -- so fucking good):
  4. Apparently, Torre thinks that 2007 is the toughest year he's ever had to manage. Didn't he say the same thing around this time last year?
  5. Any idea if Neko and/or Dan Bejar will be joining them?
  6. It's outside, so its not really a capacity issue. They put a stage right on the boardwalk. Its a pretty small space, but you don't have to be directly in front of the stage to hear the music. That being said, I am sure the space in front of the stage will be jammed. Here you go: a pic from Animal Collective's show there (on brooklynvegan):
  7. You mean all those record store owners who supported Prince by selling his album to their customers? Funny, I thought they were supporting themselves by doing that. I am sorry to see cool record shops close, and I hate to see people lose their jobs, but Prince doesn't owe anyone anything.
  8. This is a free show. Man, it's gonna be crowded.
  9. I wrote a book here http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?sho...c=28644&hl=
  10. My vote: Yes, threadworthy, but not all that surprising. Certainly not racist. As El *(&%^& said. It's also why they advertise for Viagra and Metamucil on The McLaughlin Group. They know their audience.
  11. I decided not to go because I thought it would be canceled, so of course that means the show was not canceled. Complete with horn section. I think it was a very sparse crowd. Brooklynvegan.com has a pretty cool review/pics/etc. Short show because of the weather.
  12. Yeah, I am scouring the internets for updates. But I am looking out my window, and I dont see how this show goes on. It is pitch black out and thunderstorming.
  13. I love me some Nick Lowe. Thanks for the info. Haven't been crazy about his last few albums, but his stuff from the 70s/80s is killer. He also produced some kick ass Elvis Costello albums. This Year's Model, right? The man is criminally underappreciated in a world where underappreciated is tossed around too frequently. I think he makes most of his money off of Elvis' cover of Whats So Funny (Bout Peace Love and Understanding).
  14. This is what I have. I am mostly happy with it, but the sound seems to get a little muffled around the edges sometimes, if that makes any sense. Hey Sarchi, oh turntable expert, how do I figure out if this is a turntable issue, a needle issue, a cartridge issue, or a phono preamp issue?
  15. Free Spoon show in battery park tonight for all you NYC people. River2River festival. I'll be the one there with a big grin. Spoon!
  16. Albert Pujols needs to grow up. I don't care how great he is. What a prick.
  17. But don't they just do the same songs? Is Hippopopottamus really that funny when you hear it for the fifth time? What's the draw in seeing the same act live? I think they are pretty funny, but do they do the same songs on the show?

    Playboy!

If you don't think I'm buying this issue for the sole purpose of the look on Mrs. MattZ's face when she sees it casually tossed on the coffee table, well, you don't know me very well.
  19. This is my favorite thread of all time. I am not kidding. It has everything.
  20. This album sounds amazing on vinyl.
  21. I just read that Rod Beck was buried in his Cubs uniform. I guess the details of his death were never released, but the police dont suspect foul play. So says Wikipedia, at least.
  22. True, but as mp3s continue to proliferate as subpar digital music files with advantages that skew to convenience over quality, it's also possible that there will be a backlash where people want their home systems to sound as good as possible. It's 100 yr old technology, but many people still think it's the best and warmest sounding format out there. So, maybe CDs and CD players disappear and people use their mp3s and mp3 players for travel while home listeners go back to vinyl? Hey a guy can dream right? It seems logical to me.
  23. Seconded. Thanks for posting. EDIT: In fact, I am trying to build this as a playlist in rhapsody right now...
  24. Really? Why? I can definitely see a future where mp3s and mp3 players take over the world and CDs and CD players become nonexistant. Seems to me that the vinyl devotees could survive that and would hold onto their niche regardless.
