I know he was criticized for a real reason. That was my point -- if there is a real reason, he gets criticized for it. Jeter is certainly a media darling in NYC, but he is not above criticism when it is warranted. If he had done this instead of ARod, I think he would have been criticized, but would not have gotten it to the degree that ARod has.

I touched on this earlier. If Jeter did it, he probably would not have caught nearly as much grief for it. But that's because he doesn't have a rap for being a bush league player. The media would be more willing to cut him some slack. ARod, fairly or unfairly, has the rap of being a bush league player. Its the same reason why certain basketball players get whistled in for flagrant fouls when they simply make hard fouls. ARod's reputation precedes him. That being said, I also mentioned earlier that Jeter gets his fair share of criticism in the media. He stayed out of a fight a few year

Slightly off topic, but can anyone drop knowledge on how they use the site (Oink, that is) to find newly uploaded stuff? My ratio is fine, but barely. And I always tend to learn about new leaks by the time 4000 seeders are there which hurts the ratio. Do folks just check every day? Run the same searches for "Ryan Adams Easy Tiger" every day?

Thanks fellas. My mental cheat sheet was always "in other words" for i.e., but I didn't think that made sense here. Still not sure if it does. Ok, sorry for the diversion here. Back to hating A-Rod.

For what it's worth (e.g., not much), Jeter caught a fair amount of slack from the media here for staying out of a bench clearing brawl a few years ago. I dont remember which team it was against, but I vaguely recall him and the star from the other team standing off to the side and laughing about the brawl as it was going on. And Jeter also caught some heat for not coming out and defending A-Rod last year. So, he doesn't always get a free pass in NY. EDIT: Ninjas - should that be an e.g. or an i.e.?

Maybe we're splitting hairs here, but I don't think of it as getting in the player's head, as much as to keep him off the outside of the plate. I guess that's as much mental as anything. But its a legitimate baseball purpose. Hitters can lean over the plate without brushback pitches and pitchers need to defend their territory. It's just not a dick move to me. The hitter doesn't have any more right to the outside part of the plate than the pitcher does. Sliding spikes up has no baseball purpose. It is done in hopes of injuring a player. Yelling at a middle infielder serves no purpose o

I am there. Warsaw too. Schweeet.

The point of a brushback pitch is not to hit the batter -- it's to move him off the plate. I'd say its only a dick move if you are actually headhunting. These days, any pitch that's high and an inch off the plate is a brushback pitch anyway... Or so some batters would have you think.
-
A brushback pitch is not a dick move. I'd even say that intentionally hitting a batter isn't a dick move. Intentionally headhunting is a dick move. Sliding spikes up is a dick move. That's a lot of dick moves.

There is plenty of deception in the game, but much of it is tradition and is part of the unwritten rulebook. I know baseball's unwritten rulebook can seem random and hokey, but the game does police itself in this regard. Generally speaking, you don't bunt for a hit in the 8th inning of a no hitter. You don't steal a base up (or down) by 5 or more runs. For whatever reason, it's ok for a middle infielder to deke a runner stealing second by making him think the catcher's throw went into center field. But the fallout from the play last night appears to be that players don't and shouldn't yel

Wow, I missed that... This guy just can't do anything right.

Frankly, if I am A-Rod, I wouldnt want to play in NY. The front page of the Post yesterday was crazy. Plus, 6 different teams have won the World Series in the last 6 years. It's not like he needs to play in NY to win. Maybe he sticks around because he has too much pride, or he likes the access to Madison Avenue and strippers, but he'd do just as well in Chicago or LA. He'd be a hero in Chicago if he brought the Cubs a title. He'll never be a hero with these Yankee fans.

There's a really interesting feature article in this week's New Yorker on McCartney. I recommend checking it out if you can. Unfortunately, the article is not online.

You just aren't giving up on this, huh?

Nah, they just made it up to have something to talk about. Reyes played 2nd when he came up with the Mets for a year to defer to (gasp!!) Kaz Matsui. So maybe the Yanks would put him there. Or move Jeter to 3rd as he continues to get older and slower. Reyes does seem like the type of player the Yanks could really use -- assuming he keeps up his OBP. Getting on base, wreaking havoc. That being said, I agree that ARod's #s are sick and they'd be making a mistake getting rid of him.

Interesting discussion on Mike/Mad Dog just now about Yanks and Mets swapping A-Rod for Reyes straight up. Francesa said the Yanks would do it in a heartbeat and the Mets would not even consider it. Given's Earl's point above, I have a hard time agreeing, but it is interesting to think about. I think they were assuming money was not an issue in the trade.

There was a time when folks wrote symphonies and those symphonies could only be heard in a live setting. In concert halls. With appropriate acoustics. And with full orchestras. And there was no other option. Then someone somewhere figured out how to record and play back music. And that changed everything. Music that was written to be played and listened to in a certain way in a certain setting was being co-opted and played through one (or two) tiny speakers in people's homes. By definition, sounding completely different than the way the composer had intended the music to be heard or p

Well, for me, there's not much in music better than Nick Lowe in his prime. This is not Nick Lowe in his prime. But I suppose I still have a soft spot in my heart for him either way. Its a bit too Adult Contemporary for me. Not crazy about the horns and the backup singers, but I am only on listen #2 so far. I think man in love has more of an older nick lowe feel to it. I dig it. I also like I Trained Her to Love Me.
