  1. I saw this too, and thought it was another example of the Yanks being overprotective of him. He conveniently "missed" a series at Shea the year after the Piazza/bat incident, and I seem to remember him missing a crucial series in Boston a couple of years ago also. But the truth is, the Yanks' rotation is set for the weekend -- Wang, Mussina and Pettite. Wouldnt make sense to bump one of those three to put Clemens in for his first start of the year.
  2. Well, I meant it tongue in cheek. It doesn't really bother me all that much. And in reality, I will probably be thinking of this [insert adjective] thread every time I hear the song, not the actual cars.
  3. In approximately one month, Clemens will develop (one of) a shoulder/knee/back injury landing him on the 15-day DL.
  4. I think someone said it earlier, but I haven't even seen these stupid commercials and every time I hear that song I am going to think of VWs now.
  5. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Nothing makes me happier than watching him do it for another team. And when it's against the Mets, it's like Christmas in May. And I'm Jewish.
  6. That's what I like about. Sometimes they can be too exuberant. This is a cool mellow(er) groove. newman
  7. I often have the same issue (but not always). Some bands just don't translate well to larger venues as their appeal grows (e.g., the Shins, the Decemberists, etc.). I don't think that means that I cease liking bands because they became popular. But maybe it does.
  8. Frankly, I think this may be the best explanation for why I have an unexplained negative gut reaction to a song in a commercial. Every company -- well, almost every company -- has practices (past or present) that I don't agree with. Not to mention the advertising agencies they hire to "con you into thinking you're the one that can win what's never been won..." VW/Nazi connections may be a bit of a stretch after so much time has passed, but corporate America ain't pretty. Layoffs, foreign cheap labor, questionable health benefits, etc. It's hard to see your favorite songs/bands in bed wit
  9. I know it's early, but can someone remind me how the wildcard rules work? Does the #1 team play the wildcard in the first round if they are from the same division? I remember they didn't back in the old days, but I can't remember if that changed. What if the wildcard has a better record than a different division winner? In other words, do I have to be worried about the possibility of the Mets playing the Braves in the first round of the playoffs?
  10. Yeah, I guess so. Seemed reasonable at the time.
  11. I wouldn't be surprised if the song was left off the album, in large part, for artistic reasons. Maybe the band didn't want us to be listening to the album and then 4 songs in, have visions of VWs? If anything, maybe there was a higher artistic issue here for the band? Maybe the song was left off the album in furtherance of art instead of in spite of it? Also, on a side note, when I hear I Heard It Through The Grapevine, I do think of that commercial from years ago with the dancing raisins. I hate to say it, but its true. It is one of the few instances when the commercial has overtaken
  12. Fire Marshall Bill, anyone? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC9YBeCVcUA
  13. Downloads from oink, hidden tracks on the CD, extra tracks on iTunes, video downloads if you pre-order the CD, a CD with the LP, the bonus CD with the DVD, etc. I know it's been said before on here, but this is plain silly.

    starbucks

I bought Dylan's Gaslight bootleg at Starbucks because I think that was the only place it was being sold(?). I sort of laughed at and dug the irony of buying that cd at a Starbucks. Those songs took form at coffee shops in the neighborhood where I bought it. Not quite Starbucks back then, though.
  15. I can't say I disagree with you, but ouch.
  16. Yeah, I think we are saying the same thing. My point is that nothing "slipped through." This ceased being a "mistake" when they heard it and liked it. It had nothing to do with whether it was live or not. It had to do with the fact that band thought it was cool.
  17. I would guess that he didnt hit the note, but it seemed like the perfect mistake so they left it. And I agree, I think its the perfect mistake. It adds a whole other level to that line that makes the song even more cool. I find it hard to believe that a few off notes just "slipped through." Recorded live or not, if the band didnt like a take, they would have re-recorded it. Just because its recorded live doesn't mean they'd get lazy with mistakes.
  18. Haha, well, I guess these days anything heavier than beer. Even in the old days though, to spend a whole day in the sun, watching music all day, and then watching some jammy bands get all tripped out at the end of the day going until 3, 4, 5am? For three straight days? I am getting tired just thinking about it. I was at Big Cypress back on 12/31/1999, and that was hard enough, but it was really only one big night of madness. An absolutely amazing time.
  19. Is it possible to get through those late night shows without the aid of heavy drugs? Jeez, I may be getting old, but 3am?
  20. I was so much older then ... Happy birthday, Bob.
  21. I am late to this party, but boy am I glad I got here. Wow.
  22. I gotta hand it to you, earlbob. That's your position, and you're sticking to it. I don't agree, but I admire your stubborness about it. Seriously.
