You can therefor assume that smoking was allowed at some shows in 2005. That's pretty crazy thinking back on it from today's perspective. So I suppose the period between no smoking and no smartphones was only a few short wonderful years.

I saw this movie once in high school but I don't think I was paying close attention because I didn't remember any of it. But it's one of those films I always hear about so I decided to give it another go. Anyways, this movie sucks. There's some charm to the music and setting but I don't feel like it does representing early 90s Seattle. Heck, I think Twin Peaks is a better representation of that period (not Seattle but in the general vicinity, so close enough). Ultimately it feels like Seattle and the grunge music is just kind of superficially sprinkled in. It felt like it should have been

Somehow I've never read these before. I'm about half way through Two Towers and both it and Fellowship have been great. The detail and mythology in Tolkien's world is amazing. It's also making me really appreciate Jackson's adaptation. I can't imagine what a mammoth task turning these books into screenplays and then films would have been in the late 90s/early 00s but I think overall Jackson really made some smart decisions. My goal is to finish the trilogy and then take on.... The Silmarillion. Wish me luck.

Thanks for sharing Gabe, that was a great interview! I'm honestly still shocked that the 11lp edition Super Deluxe version exists but I'm so glad it does. I had always assumed it would be just the album with engineer demos we already had. I mean how much more could there have been? Turns out, a lot more. But if I had any complaint about the boxset, I wish it had a little bit more context and clarity about what these demos are and when they're from. Us big fans can figure out that American Aquarium is Ken on drums so and Unified Theory is Glenn, etc but that's probably lost to a lot of people.

I thought this video was worth sharing. I always liked hearing these "unplugged" Wilco sets, like the hootenany ones at the end of the Star Wars shows. The new songs sound really good in this format, maybe they should bring it back?? Great videography in this video and the sound is great too especially for no mic. That background is pretty ok too, I guess.

Yeah the concert is from July 2002, Jay would have been gone for about a year. I'm not sure if Mike was performing with the band, I know early on he was doing some stuff, like cuing up samples from backstage, but he's not credited in the linernotes at all. Contrary to what one might think due to my profile picture (Johnny Canuck being a historic hockey logo for the city of Vancouver, displayed here in modern Canuck colours of blue and green), I was not at this show. Between bbop and theashtraysays expertly capturing the train incident, I think there's one more banter moment worth preserving in the written record from this show. It started when someone in the crowd asked Jeff about why he was playing a Gibson J-45. Jeff explain that this specific J-45 was a guitar he hadn't been using in recent years but brought it back for the YHF anniversary shows, since it is the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot guitar. He strummed a bit of I Am Trying To Break Your Heart and he was right, it sounded just like that guitar. At this point Pat spoke up to help Jeff out. I think (???)

This post is pretty funny. Why did I say They Might Be Giants? Anyways, my issue at concerts these days isn't the children it's the loud mouth adults. Bring the kiddos, it's one less seat for a drunken boomer or an obnoxious 21 year old (...as I was when I made that post!). Definitely anyone under the teenage years should wear earphones or ear plugs. The Cruel Country shows I've seen haven't been the loudest shows I've ever been to but Vince is right, the levels are being set pretty high.

The iconic Canadian venue.... the Budweiser Stage. I believe this Budweiser Stage is the same venue they did a similar double bill with Lord Huron a few years ago. If Wilco ever circles back to Toronto in the next few years and plays the newly renovated Massey Hall, I'll definitely try to make the trip.
