  1. DJ Sam-A-Rama will be playing "country" so you should come! http://delilahschicago.com/calendar.html
  2. Depends on what you are looking for. There is of course Reckless Records right around the corner from Double Door on Milwaukee. Dusty Groove has more interesting specialty stuff though, and isn't that far away.: http://www.dustygroove.com/visitus.htm I must of course "pimp out" the store I work at (and am posting this from now) which is a short ride on the Damen or Western bus from there. The Newcity guide to Chicago record stores has this to say: Laurie's Planet of Sound 4639 N. Lincoln, (773)271-3569 Arguably the best rock record store in the city, John Laurie's Lincoln Square spot, f

  6. Wow. I picked up a nice Technics turntable in a thrift store that I play thru my thrift store Denon receiver and thirft store Radio Shack speakers and have never once though as I listen to a 180g record "This sounds like shit, I wish I could spend $193933838 on a better stereo, my life is soooo lacking." This site is a great resource for buying parts if you choose to go down the path of older equipment, they also offer new stuff. The most important thing is that you enjoy the music and have fun.
  7. We've had several shows in our "living room". Detholz! Devin Davis Adam Fitz's Wolf Rocket Healthy White Baby The Rich Experience Recent Photo Martin Rivas Dave Mirabella Jeff Tweedy x 2 have all played.
  8. I'm not really pushing that one Did you buy the Bonnie "Prince" Billy? The Hold Steady?
  9. Yes, there are videos for: I Must Be High Box Full of Letters Outtamind... Shot in the Arm Jesus, Etc. Kicking Television I actually saw the last two on MTV2. And they get radio airplay in Chicago.
  10. My Halloween Mix: First off, I must give props to Scar Stuff, where all the songs marked with a * are available for download. Spooky Music (Part One)* - Columbia Playtime 7" Witches Brew - Hap Palmer & Martha Cheney Werewolves of London - Magnolia Electric Company Ghosts 'n' Goblins - The Advantage Excerpt from It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown* Red Right Hand - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield Everyday is Halloween - Ministry Excerpt from It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown* The Witch - The Sonics The Munsters Theme - Comateens Pet Semetary - Ramones
  11. Believe it or not, the Handsome Family aren't that obscure. I'm sure a handful of people here have actually seen them open for Jeff Tweedy.
  12. I was coerced into seeing Weird Al live 10 years ago. I have to give him props for being a really cool guy because after the show he sat on the sidewalk in front of the theatre and waited to greet every fan who waited to talk to him, get a picture, etc. I mean, you can't really picture him on the bus with the ladies or whatever, but he certainly doesn't have to do that.
  13. they've got the Tapes N Tapes style hype behind 'em, formerly known as the Clap Your Hands hype.
  14. that CD is way out of print, hold on to it! do you still have the poster from the LP?

  16. Most likely that list should be accurate. Any store that orders direct from Matador can participate. Call your favorite and ask, preordering at our store merely consists of having yr name, phone and email written down.
  17. yr missing War on War and Always in Love. Sorry, I don't have them, but it was a really cool night!
  18. I doubt you are in the minority. It is my least favorite of their stuff (yeah, I like Terror Twilight better), but considering I only own it on LP, it's only $14.99 for two very full CDs, and all the bonus goodies, I'm more than happy to take a chance. That's another thing, how come those major label 2 disc deluxe reissues cost at least $32.99 (like Matthew Sweet Girlfriend, among many others) and Matador gives the same treatment for a mere $14.99?
  19. I'm going to encourage everyone who is interested in this to go to their local indie record store (or call them) and see if they are particpating in this. This is a great thing from Matador to try and get people going to the local instead of Best Buy or whatever. That said, if you are in an area that doesn't have an awesome indie store: http://www.insound.com/noteworthy/promo.php?p=695
  20. WOW OUT As a second installment of Matador's pre-order program (dubbed "Buy Early, Get Now"), we steam full speed ahead with three fan lavishing Pavement gems: a super rare live show, poster, and a very limited 7". Wow Out is simple. When a customer pre-orders "Wowee Zowee: Sordid Sentinels Edition" from a participating store, they will receive information and a unique code via email to download an entire live Pavement show. On November 7th, customers will receive a super limited 7" with previously unreleased versions of "Blackout" and "Extradition" and a ridiculously awesome poster along wi
  21. yeah, mine has been "defaced" by jeff tweedy anyway, and is full of fan club mailings. I'm sure that would devalue it.
  22. The only stuff I am downloading is stuff by artists I know I'm going to buy when it is released, ie Decemberists, Magnolia Electric Company, etc. I don't dl stuff by bands I haven't heard yet, because I honestly will NEVER listen to it. I much prefer to have the actual item to look at while I listen. If I buy something and end up not liking it, I trade it back to a store, or a friend. I do finally get to a point where I realize I'm not listening to something enough, like I finally didn't buy the last Ryan Adams, but I never listened to it either, because I have enough of his albums that I didn
