  1. Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what else is going on. I'm crossing my fingers for Flaming Lips at Aragon maybe? though as a last resort, Smoking Popes will be at Double Door.
  2. as far as music goes, the only way they can bust you is if you are offering the files up for grabs on a file sharing site. If you merely download from other people, but aren't sharing those files, you can't be caught. That said, I have never downloaded an album that I didn't later purchase, usually on vinyl. My iTunes music library has 24,000 + songs.
  3. yay! glad to see him getting love. I just saw him a couple weeks ago, three of the Detholz! were playing with him. Oh shit, let me mention them!! Detholz!
  4. Attn Chicago people: Check out the New City Guide to Indie Record Stores!
  5. Trying to name a few that haven't been mentioned yet: Magnolia Electric Company Sloan Califone The Sadies Fruit Bats
  6. I wish I knew what kind of fruit that was in the hospital jell-o I just ate.
  7. There are several no-kill kittie shelters in Chicago. I've heard good things about Treehouse: http://www.treehouseanimals.org/
  8. Dang, my Billy Liar is red! If I get any more in for the store, I'll see if they're colored. My fave is the White Her Majesty with silk screened cover. I wash my hands before I play that one.
  9. I have what is known as delayed sleep phase syndrome. I've "suffered" from it my entire life (hence the 3:30 am CST posting). My normal sleep phase is 4 am - 12 noon, and has always been close to this my entire life. Others in my family have it as well, and they are going to be studying the hormones in my blood. The sleep deprivation aspect is pretty grueling, but I am getting paid. In January I'm going to be staying in the hospital for 3 nights, one of which they turn on a light for an hour while I am sleeping (along with the hourly or half hourly blood draws). That one will be a peice of cak
  10. I am the world's worst mailer. For reals. If you want one, send me a SASE, that is the only way I promise I will get it out. PM me for my addie Here's the art, it's soooooooo cute!
  11. I will be going back in the hospital Friday thru Wednesday for more medical research on my sleep disorder. Last time I was deprived of sleep for 22 hours, this time will be 36. Expect totally nonsensical posts from me around the 24 hour mark, and reports on the 200 calories I am eating every 2 hours. Also if anyone in Chicago wants to come visit me at Northwestern October 6-11, I am allowed visitors at anytime (except when I am sleeping the first two nights from 4 am - 12 noon, of course).
  12. We have the posters at the store, also some stickers for books that have the Decemberists as animals and say "From the Library Of ____________". It's been selling very well. I was eh on Picaresque, but freaking LOVE this one.
  13. Yeah, I was not a big fan of Lovlier You, but I really love the new one. Glad to see Grudge Fuck redone! Someone is sending me a copy of the bonus disc so I have to wait on that.
  14. Got my hands on a couple promo copies at the store... BOTH HAD DIFFERENT STICKER SHEETS!! ARGH! I finally made my choice and stuck the stickers.
  15. There's the sound issue, but call me old fashioned, I like to SEE the band as well.
  16. My "review" of the Chicago show: I wasn't all that excited by the Illinoisemaker tour. As much as I like spectacle and pageantry, it just seemed a little forced and weird; the cheers were cute, but seemed stilted. I knew the centerpiece of this tour was a large string section and horns, which got me a little more excited. The spectacle and pageantry of 15 people on stage in giant colorful wings and feathers and beautiful background projections (provided by Deborah who did Wilco and Calexico's for a bit) was pretty impressive. The songs themselves could have been lost beneath that, but instea
  17. I was ready to explode and die right there when he played it in Chicago. It was the most amazing thing ever.
  18. Magnolia Electric Company - Songs: Ohia Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Wilco Abbey Road - Beatles Reckoning - R.E.M. Scott 4 - Scott Walker Crooked Rain Crooked Rain - Pavement Velvet Underground - Velvet Underground On the Beach - Neil Young Weezer (Blue) - Weezer Muswell Hillbillies - Kinks That's a ridiculous list.
  19. I would assume since KT was probably recorded digitally they are smart enough to realize it would sound like ass and require like 5 LPs and just not really be worth it in the end. Kinda curious what happened to the No Depression 180g reissue that was due this year.
  20. Considering my favorite MMJ album has always been At Dawn, this may finally replace that. I never got into the last two albums, but have always enjoyed the "hits" from those two at the live shows, so yeah, this is perfect. "O is the One that is Real" (from the Songs: Ohia split which I also adore) is probably my fave moment. I can't wait for the DVD, and hope we get a theatre screening here in Chicago.
  21. Richard and Linda Thompson. Buy the album, it's wonderful.
  22. I am going to be Natalie from Facts of Life, and a friend of mine Jo. We will be rocking Eastland School For Girls Uniforms.
  23. I just came to the realization that I do not have the room to just HAVE records that I may never listen to again. The only things that have made this cut though are Th' Legendary Shack Shakers last one and Sonic Nurse. Summerteeth gets play, but it doesn't really SOUND good on vinyl.
  24. If you want to work for Stanley Steamer, you will be drug tested. Their commericial just made a big point about how their carpet cleaners are drug free. As for drug info, I HIGHly recommend this site: http://www.erowid.org/
