  1. let's switch this to drunk and or flipping the bird. bonus for posting whilst drunk.
  2. EARLY DAY MINERS TOUR EASTERN U.S., DATES WITH WILCO ANNOUNCED EARLY DAY MINERS are currently making their way across the eastern U.S (with a few stops in Canada, as well). Their van is full to capacity, with 7 musicians and one self-described "media assassin". They are performing their epic 39-minute masterpiece "Offshore" in its entirety, complete with dreamy video accompaniment. They have also been invited to open for Wilco for 3 October shows. Early Day Miners tourdates: 09/11/06 Cambridge, MA - The Middle East w/ Pela 09/13/06 Toronto, ON - Tranzac 09/14/06 Hamilton, ON - Casb
  3. I got to see their pre lollapallooza show at Schubas and it was incredible. Sunlandic Twins is awesome, can't wait for the new one!
  4. I cannot recommend Catfish Haven enough. And The Detholz! (they're on the paste sampler CD this month!)
  5. Thanks everyone. I know today will be a good day since I just woke up! Yeah, the crazy celebrating will be Friday at the Hideout, so hopefully my booty will be tough enough for the spankings then.
  6. Uh this may come off as the lamest post from me ever (take your pick!) but seriously... I was in a really bad place in my life and used to totally escape by watching the Crocodile Hunter. My brief stint in a cubicle was made slightly more enjoyable by the presence of my Steve Irwin action figure reminding me that "Crocs Rule!" and such. I had a pretty emotional evening to begin with and hearing this really broke my heart. It is of course tragic he died but I guess he couldn't have gone out in a more spectacular fashion.
  7. Not to flog a dead horse here, but I just got back from a screening of the Thax documentary. Lots of Wilco content (major Tweedy screentime), and a nice screen shot of VC whilst Thax is discussing that post. Pretty intense viewing though, and having experienced a lot of it firsthand my first though is it is really interesting what editing can do. I'm not sure about release info, etc but there is a website: http://www.strangerthanfilms.com/thax.html
  8. Nope, the last one is Monday. And samorama is certainly not real.
  9. All the Falsest Hearts Can Try is at the top of my list.
  10. I owned a 2nd hand 1st Gen, a Mini and now the 60 GB, which knock on wood, I have had no issues with. I love it, have music, photos and video on it. It really beats lugging a Discman around and getting CDs all scratched up. I will also once again sing the praises of indie record companies letting you download the MP3s for free from them once you buy an album on vinyl.
  11. He quit because people refuse to spell his name correctly.
  12. The release delay was due to a mastering problem. There is a really long gap on all the original pressings of the CD after the first couple songs. A really long silent pause. Matt wasn't happy with that so they recalled it. Not sure if those are the ones that got to the indies or not, the instore play copy we have does have it.
  13. Interesting show, very very tiny room that was filled with "famous" people. Fred did two bits, one as a native american stand-up and the second as a jazz expert. I guess the Drag City folks are doing this event monthly, it will be interesting to see how it progresses.
  14. Am I the only person who likes the first "self-titled" one? (not saying it's his best, I just like that he did it)
  15. Uyen, you were right, I was the youngest EXCEPT for this like 17 year old kid who stood next to me and kept asking the band tech questions DURING THE SHOW. Great setlist though, all the hits, most of Goodbye Jumbo. I really need to spend some time with Dumbing Up, I got distracted by the DVD.
  16. Weird about the release date, we got the vinyl and CD in Friday. Also: Mad props to Merge for giving a download certificate with the vinyl (along with Touch and Go and Matador who are doing the same.)
  17. LeRoy's current work with Emmet Kelly is pretty fantastic. While I miss his folksy stuff with vocals his finger picking stuff he's doing now is beautiful.
  18. Glad to read these recommendations, I will be venturing out alone for this tomorrow nite. Goodbye Jumbo was my favorite album in ninth grade!
  19. I was in love with someone who was considered "mentally ill" and lived with them for a few years. His illness made it difficult for him to hold down a job, and the government originally denied his claims for disability. I'm not saying Thax is necessarily mentally ill, but someone who was given shock treatment might not be very eager to seek diagnosis or help, even though methods have (hopefully) changed since he was initially treated. It's also probably not something he would choose because the medication/treatment/whatever could potentially stifle what makes him creative (at least in his mind
  20. It's funny, as long as I have "known" Thax since I have lived in Chicago, I really never knew his history. For all the rides I've given him and cheeseburgers I've bought him, it was always kind of just living in that moment with him. It was difficult to read that article. Despite the controversy and whatever, I am really going to miss his presence at shows. Speaking of which, I am hosting the final farwell show on Labor Day at the Hotel SnS. If anyone would like to attend, PM me for details.
  21. Back to Print Edition - Friday Friday Section THE LAST VERSE He's been praised by Billy Corgan, ripped by bloggers and applauded by thousands of Chicago rock fans. But everything is about to change for Thax Douglas. By Kevin Pang Tribune staff reporter Published August 18, 2006 In the 49th year of his life, the poet would rather not beg for bus fare, but it happens. How did it get to this? His life savings is one dollar, in his pocket. Spare change is not just something found in the couch; it means eating dinner tonight. "I am basically a failure," the poet wrote on his MySpace page. "
  22. I think I like it. Def. more mature. Picaresque was the weirdo transition album I guess.
