  1. There is a setting called "sound check" which allegedly plays all files at the same volume. http://www.macworld.com/article/44344/2005...ndcheckyou.html
  2. I thought you said you could cook in the studio.
  3. from a friend's myspace: Fight This Ordinance! Save Chicago Music. Here's How. Body: So, as i'm sure many of you know from the amount of posting and emailing done over this last weekend...we're kindof screwed! There is an oridance set to cripple music promotion in this city. Which in turn will cripple small venues. whats happening: This Wednesday, led by 47th Ward Alerman Gene Schulters committee, an ordinance is being voted on by the city council (50 alderman) that will require all promoters who organize a show (even if its a benefit) to pay a $500 to $2000 promoters licensing fee t
  4. Baby Alright aka The Boogie Band is back on Mondays in Chicago. $3 cover. LeRoy and Emmett Kelly (not the painter of clowns, Will Oldham's current lead) trade insane guitar licks, and John Herndon and Dan Bitney from Tortoise will make up the rhythm section tonite. Marvin Tate delivers the vocals in his inimitable style and infectious dancing. I know it's a Monday, but it's a whole lot of fun. Well, last week's was at least. Sonotheque is at 1444 W Chicago.
  5. I honestly squealed when I read this!!!!
  6. Not to mention it's a different spelling.
  7. The back of the LP states played by bob arellano colin gagon paul oldham will oldham peter townsend I'd like to lie and say Tweedy IS on it, if it would make people check out a super-fantastic album that really deserves a chance, but nope.
  8. As if the new album on June 10 isn't enough they are re-releasing ALL the full length studio albums (AND Acoustic Citsuoca) on vinyl!! I'm so glad I never payed eBay prices for At Dawn!
  9. I'm gonna hold off until I hear the actual album. Red vinyl will be available at indie stores and, uh, Hot Topic.
  10. I agree 100% and don't quite understand it. How come stuff on Matador and Drag City is pretty close to normal price claiming 180 g etc. etc. , but the major labels charge so much for the same deal? R.E.M. Accelerate REALLY pissed me off. It could easily fit on one LP but instead it's 2 or three tracks a side double LP on 45! I don't think I'm going to listen to it enough in my lifetime for any of that to make a difference.
  11. I think it's funny that it's taken them this long to be influenced by Dylan. 10. Down In The Basement - ANDREW
  12. Weird, we also heard that on a road trip. Same deal, I'm coming to terms with all this music I thought was so square when it was popular.
  13. Yeah but they made a huge deal about it being vinyl only.
  14. I thought it was cool he was doing vinyl only, but his label must have pressured him into CD: http://www.amazon.com/Momofuku-Elvis-Coste...7806&sr=8-1 At any rate, I got the vinyl but haven't played it yet. There is a Momofuku stencil included.
  15. As the person who sold it to him, I can tell you it was the Hecla & Griper EP. I am listening to my favorite record of ever all time on a brand new cartridge, Songs: Ohia The Magnolia Electric Company. The 12 pack of beer from a random customer really made for a great night. Seriously, I can't tell you how nice that was. If you ever want to do something randomly cool show up at your favorite record store on a Saturday with a 12 pack. Happy Record Store Day, Everybody!! PS: Also awesome was when Paul pointed out a Thank You to a VCer in the new Evangelista LP
  16. I really do not understand him opening for Laura Viers. She is so fucking boring and I've sat thru her like 3 times now opening for people I love.
  17. I'm in the backroom enjoying pizza on Warner Brothers and just put some beer in the fridge a dear customer gave us
  18. I absolutely adore Liam Finn and would consider myself an Elliott Smith fan. Liam lapses into some Elliott influenced moments for sure but Liam's songwriting comes from a completely different planet, as in Elliott had a much more tortured soul.
  19. I really like Steely Dan, Hall and Oats, the Doobie Brothers and Bob Seger. I cannot tell the difference between a third shift and a first shift mono pressing. There's nothing wrong with ANY Weezer album.
  20. I am one of the luckiest people in the whole world to work at one of the best record stores in Chicago and make somewhat of a living at it. For some reason or another that may or may not involve Metallica, the country is celebrating something called Record Store Day this Saturday, April 19. Super cool independent record stores all across the country will be selling special vinyl releases, giving away stuff and just feeling generally happy to still be around. In the five years I've worked at Laurie's Planet of Sound I have been happy to see sales increasing every year! We're selling more vinyl
  21. Bee Gees: 1. Holiday 2. New York Mining Disaster 1941 3. You Should Be Dancing Beach Boys: 1. God Only Knows 2. Sloop John B 3. Good Vibrations Kinks: 1. Waterloo Sunset 2. Oklahoma USA 3. This Time Tomorrow
