I may try and get there for Ornette Sunday after work. I'd hit Hungry Brain Saturday but I think I'm going to the Hideout instead.
-
I am excited for the Omnibus and Midnight in Mississippi vinyl! Now if only they'd do Dog Days. The remaster sounds great.
-
I've been contemplating doing this for every year I've been alive since Pneyu sent me something about it. I don't know if I can handle it.

The Bottom Lounge show was pretty incredible last night. In fact I am too tired and bruised from somehow maintaining a front row position all night to go to the fest today. Jay Reatard is one of my favorite musicians around right now, and his recordings sound NOTHING like his live show. His latest singles are very new-wavey with synths and such, but he makes no attempt to recreate that live. He reminds me of when I saw the Ramones live; despite knowing the catalog well I could only identify the song maybe halfway through, or once the next one already started. King Khan and the Shrines are on

If you do that it's going to send a pretty bad message to a band who is cool enough to bestow such treats upon fans.
-
thankfully all the bands I care to see are playing club shows. Saturday night at Bottom Lounge is gonna fucking rule with King Khan and the Shrines, Jay Reatard and non-festers Cheap Time, A/V Murder and The Dutchess and the Duke (whom I don't much care for). Boris is at the Empty Bottle Sunday night with Torche and Nachtmysium. I might go to the fest Sunday to peruse the record fair and sit under a tree and possibly hear M. Ward.

I'm updating my old dino-iPhone to 2.0 and very excited. I kinda want a new one, but my monthly bill would be more and I don't know if it's worth it. Most of my hardcore browsing is done on WiFi anyway. Pulling up bus trackers, maps, etc doesn't take that long. At work I use Wi-Fi and watch Perfect Strangers episodes on YouTube. I really really love my iPhone. Not having to mess with a phone and iPod seperately is so nice. I also like the integrated earphones/phone using phones.

Is that Charro as in "cucci cucci?!" cuz I would take my break from the store to coincide with that.

This sounds pretty cool--New York/Chicago peeps

Uh oh, I don't think that's accurate. it WAS going to be outside, now it's inside, and a visit from tamale guy is more likely than catfish. I'll be there at least for the dance party. -
Yeah they get together every once in a while. They were the "surprise opener" when Calexico and Iron & Wine played at the Congress a few years back.

Gods, I wish! I do love his early stuff: Oh wait, Different Ax. Nevermind

New My Morning Jacket Album!!!
Dr. Steve Brule replied to chisoxjtrain's topic in Someone Else's Song
As someone who hasn't loved an album since At Dawn, Evil Urges is my favorite since. The last two have had some amazing moments with a song here and there, but never grabbed me. I am digging it. Even more so, I am digging the vinyl At Dawn and Tennessee Fire reissues. If you are thinking of getting them, don't sleep. They are supposedly limited to 1000 (How many of the first press were there?) and red & yellow (AD) and green & blue (TF) look awesome, but I am sucker for colored vinyl. My store never even got them... I had to purchase them from the competition! -
Lou! that is ridiculous! I just got it on vinyl and had my first listen a few minutes before you came in and meant to bring it up! I loved it on first listen, probably the first time he has really wrung together all aspects of his career that I have always loved: Nuns, Rank and File, chamber-y/VU sounding stuff... Amazing! We'll be out of it by tomorrow for sure, I'll hold a copy for you Tuesday when we restock
-
My friend Lane INSISTED I go see them at Schubas. It was a super snowy beautiful day/night in March 2002. I was won over by the fucking amazing live show and bought At Dawn at the merch table. I was a little shocked by the difference from the live show to the album, but oh how I fell in love with that album. Haven't loved any of them that much, in fact I kind of like the split EP with Songs: Ohia and Chocolate and Ice better than the 3 subsequent full-lengths. I still see them live every chance I get, though I may sit the Chicago theater out. I do like Evil Urges better than Z or It Still Move

I got my copy today... it sounds incredible on vinyl, and the different CD version is pretty cool. It comes in its own cardboard sleeve with a photo of the studio on the cover explaining the differences between it and the standard CD. The album itself is really a grower too.
-
the album got a good review in Paste months before its actual release date. I'm excited to hear it. Free 4th of July with Alejandro with Old 97s at Taste!! How can we lose?!

Yeah, try $120,000. That's a lot of gasoline! Well, not that much with today's prices. http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/ptech/06/02/y...r.ap/index.html -
There are two places that pretty much set the "value" of a CD or LP and that is gemm.com and ebay.com.
-
I'd say a good number of VCers have been on board with them since their first album! The cds are good, but the live show is really where it's at.
