  1. >So it's groundbreaking because he borrowed lyrics and because Rolling Stone said it was? >P.S. I only skimmed through half of the article. hey, i wasn't trying to argue with you. as a matter of fact, i spent the time trying to find the Poetry article again so i could present you with a different viewpoint. i'm sorry if i came across the wrong way, but there really isn't any need to act that way towards me. the article makes a point that his last two albums are post-modern collage. it also says that nobody has even written songs like these before...not even the man himself. i
  2. >Oh, I thought you meant his guitar playing, to which I'd reply, "yeah, he's sick as hell." lol. -justin
  3. >I don't think I've heard Love and Theft, but I've listened to Modern Times a bunch. What new ground is being broken with that album? http://www.poetryfoundation.org/archive/fe....html?id=178703 please read the full article before making any further comments. also, from the Rolling Stone review: "There is no precedent in rock & roll for the territory Dylan is now opening with albums that stand alongside the accomplishments of his wild youth. Love and Theft, recorded when he'd turned sixty, was his toughest guitar rock since Blonde on Blonde in 1966, a combination of the mojo Mu
  4. >After Dylan did Highway 61 and Blonde on Blonde, he's made virtually only 2 albums [blood on the Tracks and Desire] that even compare. not true at all. "Love & Theft" and Modern Times are both groundbreaking. yeah, you see the overwhelmingly positive reviews, but few people have touched on the real brilliance of these albums. years down the road people will though. also, besides discounting those (which to me is the real crime), you've dismissed The Basement Tapes, John Wesley Harding, etc. to the original poster: Wilco will get their due eventually. kinda like The Velvet Und

  6. i'm still hoping this will include an official release of Dylan's "I'm Not There (1956)." it's a great fucking song. i didn't know MMJ was doing "Goin' To Acapulco." that's going to be mind-blowing. i did see them do "Tonight, I'll Be Staying Here With You" in concert in 2005. -justin

  10. hey, if you can get to Richmond, you have a ride from here. they'll be room in my car. i was thinking (since it probably won't be in Richmond due to The National not being open yet) that it might be at the C-ville Pavilion. good thing about that though is that it's GA, which they don't do too much of anymore. -justin
  11. hey, i was down in your neck of the woods on business last night/today. -justin
  12. where then? certainly not toad's place. the national isn't open yet. maybe paramount in c-ville? too small? -justin

  14. yup. Brown only recorded 6 or 7 sides in all. the other famous one (and only other one i've heard) is "The Sinking of the Titanic." nothing really touches "James Alley Blues" though. holy shit, what a song. -justin
  15. granted you are busy with your own music career, right Mr. Mercer? -justin
  16. for everyone who loves this song, you guys should definitely check out Richard "Rabbit" Brown's original. it's absolutely stunning. not that the Wilco version isn't good, because it's great, it's just...you know... do it. -justin
  17. it's probably the version that was recorded for and eventually used on the American Anthology of Folk Music tribute recently.-justin>Sure hope these fall dates will soon include some more southern dates you're fucking right about that!-justin
  18. >I agree with you but they may be too big for The NorVa right now ... i don't really know if that's true... anyway, i'm positive we'll see them at The National. i just heard that it may not open until January or February though. >to the Jason Isbell show at Canal club last month? nope, but i live a block away from there on the same street. :-) -justin
  19. nevermind. damn. "Following up on a post from a few days ago, someone (wink) emailed a tip to Pitchfork about a possible new Postal Service release on Christmas Day, as reported by Spin Magazine. Turns out that no one had heard about this before because it wasn
  20. thanks for the link to the article. that NIN thing is interesting. new Postal Service album out on Christmas Day, huh? i'd heard that work was underway, but this was the first i've heard of a release date. i'm surprised that they didn't mention that Radiohead's last album leaked months and months in advance. not only that, but it was an unmastered copy, with many track variations, etc. -justin
  21. >i forgot Venus Stop the Train i think everyone did! good emotional song, that. -justin
