Pearl Jam is getting ready to release 2024's Dark Matter LP. Official date TBA.

I think it was some good natured kidding and self depreciating humor. He was just saying he can't even do that kind of singing. It's actually an ancient mythologized psychological concept referred to as "sour grapes". Not a prescription, or a recommendation.

Okay, call me crazy. For ages what I wanted was down home, simple Tweedy solo stuff and abstract experimental Wilco stuff. But whaaaaat if right now with the W boys crushing Cruel Country (stronger than Live Is the King imho) we need the Tweedy family to do some more "Diamond Light" type stuff. Let Sammy go off in the deep end of analog synthesis. Spencer's been doing the chill, deep country rock groove stuff with Katie Crutchfield maybe he can show off the other half of his chops. Whatever we get, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

Confirmed- new Tweedy solo album with Spencer and Sammy

I keep thinking this is a serious possibility.

Don't sleep on Horsegirl either folks. That was one of the more exciting 2022 discoveries for me. Like that hip Alvvays band if they were scrappier, kind of the punk tinged side of Sonic Youth mingling with the shoegaze elements. Wish I could go!

Wilco — 8 December 2023, Guadalajara, México (Teatro Diana)

I love that city. Please tell me the venue was somewhere downtown in the old Spanish architecture and not in some suburb. That's how I want to picture Wilco serenading the tapatios. (Fun fact: Guadalajara is sister city to my hometown of Denver CO because they have nearly identical elevations and are similar in population). -

I keep waiting for Sunlight Ends live footage to surface but no such luck yet. -

Excellent write up. It's like a short story with band member cameos crossed with a gig review. -
Just here to underline how fantastic the new Tim version is. It's not just that it's way better, it's now one of the best rock and roll mixes I can name: clear, vital, big and energetic. To think that was hiding in there all along.

I've decided "Sunlight Ends" has a melancholic sweetness that hits me in the heart like nothing since "Wishful Thinking".

Excellent. Thanks for sharing it, it was a pleasant read.

YES! This person gets it!

This is one of the more accurate reviews IMHO.

"Aw, sorry dude. Let's go bowling."

Oh yeah! WTF was I saying? Those are two of their all time best album closers, I'm ashamed my memory omitted them! So it's really just SBS, Schmilco, WTA, and OTJ with the closers that don't crush it for me (more power to anyone who feels the opposite). That puts them around 50-50 on satisfying closers for me with the current lineup. Not bad, in a baseball sense which is a dumb angle for me to take music from!

Tweedy takes the solo on Soldier Child! -
I think Soldier Child might be the mix tape song off this one for me. Not the boldest or most innovative of the set but the one that catches most immediately. It should have been the single. I also like how what felt just slightly tepid or retread about "Evicted" melts away on vinyl in the sequence. Like it's most interesting flourishes are magnified by context. It's interesting to watch the critics and fans search for the clearest precedent to this record in their catalog. I disagree with most of those connections. One thread I can find is the closing tracks of Shmilco

It's so good!!!! I have beef with some music critics. More on that when everyone has had their chance to listen.
-
Mine came early after all! Can't wait to get home.
-
I just found out the same for mine. Luckily the streaming will tide me over.
-
I pre-ordered and got a USPS tracking number notification but it hasn't shipped yet. I guess this means I won't get an early listen.
-
This one is more interesting to me than Evicted. It starts and you wrestle with it, "What time signature is this? What kind of percussion am I hearing? How'd they squeeze that bass melody in there?". It's just difficult enough. Then the bridge opens up and sprinkles some sugar. Cool song. As always it will yield even more when it's part of a bigger sequence.

I wonder if they're going to give us that whole song, or is it just the tease?
-
That song almost tears me up and I'm not even sure why.
