  1. I received a quick response from Fast Atmosphere - my CD shipped last Tuesday via first class mail and should arrive any day now. We shall see.
  2. I pre-ordered the LP last night and was surprised/excited to find out I would get an immediate download of Josephine + It's Made Me Cry. What a great deal! I'm listening to the EP right now for the first time and liking what I hear.
  3. I cannot comment on this album because the pre-order I purchased in the beginning of June has not been delivered. I made my purchase within just a couple hours of the pre-order going up on Jay's site, so this is definitely not cool. I guess this is the thanks I get for NOT listening to the leak. The rest of my mail is here, but I'll give it a little longer before I email the company just in case the package shows up late. Mail in my town has been a bit screwed up lately due to the neighboring town's post office closing altogether.
  4. I didn't receive any notification about about the album download myself. I don't need it since I had no problem ripping my copy of the CD this weekend, but it's still a bit disconcerting. A search of my email shows that I never even received a confirmation email for my order from the Kung Fu store. I only have payment confirmation from Pay Pal. Odd.
  5. From Paste: http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2009/06/old-highways-revisited.html Apparently they didn't want to waste space by writing separate reviews for the Wilco and Son Volt. "It’s been 15 years since the two bands rose from the ashes of Uncle Tupelo . . ." How creative.
  6. I realize that I'm late to the party and have nothing of substance to contribute, but I'll post anyway. I don't take it personally when a favorite band doesn't come near me, but yeah, I'm slightly disappointed that I'm not going to see Wilco this summer. Despite being an adult with a half-decent job I simply don't have the resources to travel for much of anything, let alone a concert. I'm paying off college loans at a rapid pace, forgoing the purchase of a car for as long as I possibly can, among other expenses that most people consider necessary to their everyday lives. I'm lucky to ma
  7. My LP arrived today (never having received a shipping confirmation email *from the Kung Fu store). I love the group photo inside the gatefold. The picture would make for fabulous desktop wallpaper if only it wasn't too large for my scanner bed.
  8. This morning I woke up with Tori Amos' rendition of "Time" (Tom Waits )playing in my head. Kind of odd as I haven't listened to her cover in a long time, but I have played the original recently.
  9. The only album that I've really loved so far this year is Middle Cyclone (Neko Case). Andrew Bird, M. Ward, Great Lake Swimmers and Vetiver have received quite a few plays but haven't exactly blown me a way. The new Grizzly Bear is growing on me despite the fact that I didn't enjoy Yellow House. I've got another 15 or so albums that have received only 2-5 plays. This weekend I'm trying to go through and give them another chance.
  10. Such a talented guy. RIP Jay.
  11. I would go for the combo CD of the two Flying Burrito Brothers albums. Both are fantastic. I also enjoy Sweetheart of the Rodeo and even the International Submarine Band, but I can't seem to get into Gram's solo work (again, I have the combo CD). I love one or two songs and find the rest that to be kinda boring.
  12. Theologians Muzzle of Bees Pot Kettle Black
  13. Uh . . . I like most of the songs on this album, "Country Disappeared" being the only one that I recall getting on my nerves. It may be no masterpiece, but I can see myself listening to this fairly often. I'm reminded of AM in that I can seeing myself throwing Wilco (The Album) on when I want to have fun listening to some tunes, whereas I mostly play Yankee Hotel Foxtrot when I'm in the mood to concentrate and appreciate a work of art (there are, of course, exceptions). Both types of albums have a place in my collection.
  14. Poor Jeff! It's strange seeing "Pearl Jam" as a headline on CNN.com. On a lighter note, I received my "Christmas" gift in the mail today. I hope the songs are worth the wait . . .
  15. Here it is: http://www.sendspace.com/file/plup0o (kind of a large file) It's interesting to listen to this version next to Son Volt's rendition.
  16. I've got the version from 03/20/91 - Mississippi Nights, St. Louis, MO on my computer, but for some reason it's a 128k AAC file. If no one else comes up with the song I'll try to dig the FLAC's out and provide a higher quality MP3.
  17. I'm accepting this cover as a friendly reminder not to take the music too seriously. I may take back my vow not to listen to the album prior to release . . .
  18. I'm with those who want to wait until the release to hear the new album. The stream of Sky Blue Sky + listening to live recordings very nearly ruined the album for me. The only Wilco (studio) album that I remember fully enjoying upon first listen was Being There (this was in 2005, not 1996). For the most part I find that a new Wilco record requires concentration, patience, full artwork etc.. Sitting in front of a computer screen is not the way to go.
  19. What's with all this cryptic "tweet" stuff and putting tickets on sale the second a show is announced? It was cute a first, but enough already. As someone who has sworn off the Pearl Jam message board (due to the obnoxious fanatics) I hate to think that the sane fans may eventually miss out on tickets due to the fact that we don't post/ hangout there anymore.
  20. I usually avoid leaks, but I don't think there's any way I can wait until July to listen to this one. Downloading now and I'll see how long I can hold out . . .
  21. Still a bit harsh, but his voice is growing on me. Thanks for sharing.
  22. I'd love this band if the vocal weren't so harsh. They're great live though. Maybe the new album won't be so hard on the ears?
  23. I didn't make it to an independent record store, but I did end up at Half Priced Books and Music. I bought a banged up radio station copy of Lay It Down by the Cowboy Junkies, complete with handwritten review, song ratings and a nearly demolished CD case. I'm not even a huge fan of the band, but for some reason I found this entertaining and couldn't pass it by. I'd never heard of the radio station in question, but it turns out they're located at the university from which I graduated.
  24. Came home for lunch and my copy was in the mail box (Western PA)! This is actually great timing since I probably would have waited until the weekend to watch it anyway.
