  1. One of the odd things about that song is that it used to pop up (nearly always in the dreaded "quick encore, and then we're outta here" slot) at some of the best shows. At least it worked that way for me. It's kinda like a cross between Deal and US Blues - very unoriginal, but even Hunter's throwaway material is still better than many band's top shelf stuff. imo.
  2. "Up next week: two versions of Keep Your Day Job". I've never understood the hate for that song. I don't LOVE it, or actively seek it out, but still... I guess the lyrics rub the band's "slacker" base the wrong way or something.
  3. ...or the one I used to have (Arthur Brown's voice) "I AM THE GOD OF HELL-FIRE!" Damn, that was a good one...
  4. Yep. GREAT song. The Jerry Garcia Band also kills with that song. I really dig the line "let's disconnect these cables, overturn these tables...this place don't make sense to me no more." edit: also "He can ride down Niagra Falls in the barrels of your skull" (Man of Peace). For my money Infidels has more killer lines than almost anything Dylan had written since the pre-motorcycle crash in '66.
  5. In response to the bold type: man, is THAT gonna be a shit-rain of ugliness. I always just assumed that IF anyone got into major trouble W would let them off the hook. But I guess "executive privilege" already has most of those bastards covered.
  6. Just a friendly reminder, folks - the 35th anniversary of the spectacular Winterland Run. Go bust out that boxset and be prepared to lose your mind! There are many who consider the Dark Star from that run to be the best ever. I don't know about that, but it's certainly worth debating.
  7. Here's an early one that always gives me the chills (from "Seven Curses"): The gallows shadows shook the evening In the night a hound dog bayed In the night the grounds were groanin' In the night the price was paid The next mornin' she had awoken To know that the judge had never spoken She saw that hangin' branch a-bendin' She saw her father's body broken
  8. It's alright, man - 40 years is a pretty good run! I was shocked to hear the Colts won that game. I really expected them to get beat like a gong.
  9. Glad to hear you had a good time! As we all know, Bob can be hit-or-miss but when he's on...you can get the goosebumps from head to toe. The setlist is almost an afterthought at a good show - I mean, NO ONE has a catalogue to draw from like Mr. Dylan.
  10. No doubt that song is EPIC - in fact, it could be argued that all of side 2 of that record is Bob's greatest poetry. The imagery is just amazing, one song after another - Tambourine Man, Gates of Eden, It's Alright Ma, Baby Blue - wow. The lines that always stand out to me in Alright, Ma are: Made everything from toy guns that spark To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark Easy to see without looking too far That not much is really sacred and, of course Even the President of the United States Sometimes must have to stand naked
  11. There's a black Mercedes rollin' through the combat zone --------------------------------------------------------------- Well, they used to grow food in Kansas Now they wanna grow it on the moon, and eat it raw I can see the day comin when even your home garden Is gonna be against the law -------------------------------------------------------------------- Maybe he had some problems Some things he couldn't work out But he sure was funny And he sure told the truth And he knew what he was talkin' about --------------------------------------------------------------------- In the time
  12. Thursday nights - 3's Company, Carter Country, Barney Miller, Fish. I think that's how it went.
  13. Jeez....Wilco and the Dead. I feel vindicated in some way.
  14. We're all going to have to do that if we ever want to get back on track. It won't be fun but hell...ever talk to your grandparents about what they went through? Those folks weren't afraid to do the right thing. Now it's our turn.
  15. Just follow El's instructions, dude. That would be awesome.
  16. Yeah, that record got a TON of spins here way back when. Back when USA Network had the "Night Flight" program I taped a documentary of that tour. Very cool stuff.
  17. 11/7/71 - Harding Theatre, SF, CA I: Truckin', BE Women, BIODTL, Hideaway, Sugaree, J. Straw, T. Jed, Cumberland, El Paso, Big RXR, Comes A Time, Mexicali, Sat. Night II: Ramble On, Me & Bobby McGee, Loser, Sugar Mag, Dark Star > Drums >The Other One > Me & My Uncle > Other One Reprise > Deal. Brokedown, Playin', Casey, NFA > GDTRFB > NFA E: J.B. Goode, UJB This show begs for an official release. It might be my favorite from all of '71. Keith has been in the band 3 WEEKS and sounds fully integrated already! There are some inklings of Europe happening here.
  18. thanks for posting up that article MrRain. And the line from FDR's 2nd inaugural is spot on imo.
  19. I concur, Matt. And I think Aman makes a good point that without Cream's success there might have been no Zeppelin.
  20. Anybody else catch this? Sugaree. Jackie handled the vocals very nicely. It's always strange though to see a time limit being imposed - there was a missed verse, and the solos were SO concise! Still cool to see the boys on free TV.
