  1. Thanks Dave. I'd be curious as to why you would think Yes is a longer shot than Genesis for the R&RHOF though. During both bands' creative heyday Yes was an enormously popular band - especially their LPs and concert sales. Genesis really was under the radar of many until Peter left, and they started making 'radio-friendly' tunes. Really though, both bands (and Rush for that matter) deserve to be there. Two of the best bands ever, indeed!
  2. I agree with with Edie and PATM - tonight was a great night. For the first time in a long time it felt like we're all "on the bus" now (sorry to use a Kesey reference, but it's apt). The healing has begun. I thought Joe's speech was serviceable, but I've heard him do much better over the years, to be honest. Still - it's almost unfair to have to follow Bill. That's like having to follow Hendrix onstage or something. Kerry should have sounded this good 4 years ago. He reminded us of what kind of Roveian-style hit job they're gonna be up against. But we just have to hope that shit won't
  3. Wow. I hope Wayman recovers. I saw him play dozens of times with the Pacers, and he was perhaps the best player on some teams that were fairly lackluster - it was a shame that he missed out on some good years here. He was always very friendly and upbeat. Never heard any of his music, although I think it was kind of in the Grover Washington Jr. school of jazz. Best of luck to #23.
  4. Yeah, I heard about this on the radio tonight. It might be wishful thinking, but who knows?
  5. I made? All I did was make a suggestion man. I thought I was gonna die when they were asking the Ragin' Cajun about what the speech would be like and he said "She's gonna be cool, calm and collected".
  6. Well, I gotta say HRC KILLED tonight. One hell of a speech. If all of the bitter Hill supporters didn't get convinced tonight then there's just no reaching them. She's a pretty big person right now for what she did in my opinion. That had to be a tough thing to do - but she did it, and did it well.
  7. When it comes to bad-ass 'dos, no one can top the "swoop-du-jour" of Carl Levin. Just sayin'.
  8. Bump for the distinguished gentleman from the great state of Massachusetts. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12826.html I sincerely hope this wasn't the last time I ever see this guy in his element. May his prediction that he will be on the floor in January '09 come true.
  9. Congratulations Jules and family! Great choice on the name as well - two of my best friends are William and Kenneth (Will and Ken).
  10. I'm so glad to hear positive news from you Owl. Continued vibeage from the flatlands.
  11. The irony of this is all the trouble the Obamas are having to take to keep him from being painted as an 'elitist' when both he and his wife came from relatively humble beginnings. Contrast that with a guy who was the son, and grandson, of Navy Admirals ( a pretty well-connected gig I would think) and who ended up marrying a woman who is the multi-millionaire heiress of a beer baron.
  12. I don't care who you are, you'd have to be pretty damn cold hearted not to get a bit choked up at seeing Kennedy tonight. That guy is tough as nails. Michelle did very well, I thought. I hope those seeing her speak for the first time tonight realized that she is a very sharp lady, and hopefully her speech did help to quiet some of the demonization of her husband.
  13. Todd gets a lot of love here. I've played a number of his tunes over the years with various bands I've been in.
  14. The rumor is floating around that Ted Kennedy may speak at the convention this week. I hope he's up to it, because if he does he will bring the house down.
  15. Happy Birthday Jeff. I hope your day is filled with joy. And thanks for all the music, especially "Remember The Mountain Bed" - one of my favorite pieces of music ever.
  16. I've always thought some Sibelius or maybe Stravinsky would be cool for the band to walk onstage to. The Newhart theme certainly isn't the hippest thing for intro music imo.
  17. Oh yeah. If I were to list my 20 favorite scenes ever probably 15 of 'em would involve Nicholson.
  18. We'll keep your friend in our thoughts Owl.
  19. Bump for the 8/24/72 BCT show. I only have bits and pieces of this show, but the Dead Hour I have on cassette has the Dark Star > Dew combo. For a long time this was perhaps my favorite "Star". A real unique (up to that time) version - Kieth smears electric piano over cross-rhythms set up by the rest of the band, giving this a real Miles Davis "Bitches Brew"-era feel. Very strange soundworlds are explored here. I highly recommend this version - I like it better than the legendary 8/27 version.
  20. Good to see you here Ryan, and I'm glad you had a good time!
  21. I missed it. I do know his oratorical skills are nearly as good as his running mate - hell, maybe better at times.

    I fear

Yes. I've seen a lot of guitar players in my day, and I don't use the word "magic" very often, but the word definitely applies to Nels Cline. No one in their right mind would not jump at the chance to make music with him.
  23. I couldn't be happier with this pick. Like I said the other day, I'm well aware of the potential liabilities with Senator Joe, but I've been a fan of his for 20 years. In fact, I was planning on voting for him in the primaries until he dropped out before I had the chance. Hate all you want, but this is the ticket for me.
  24. Yep, and how much of what they did was fomented, in part, by undercover agents working for Nixon's White House? Quite a bit actually. The CIA definitely had a hand in turning antiwar groups into something a bit darker than your "peace and love" ethos.
  25. A nice surprise in the mails this week - I actually got a "GD Almanac" for the first time in a long long time. I'm guessing 2-3 years? Anyone else get this? Blair Jackson and Gary Lambert - contributors.
