  1. "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" is a top 20 all-timer for me. RIP Mr. Pollack.
  2. That's good stuff Oman, but where does Bob Hunter fit in to all of this?
  3. Fast forward 20 years - 5/26/93 Cal Expo. The Playin' on this night...comparatively speaking, and amazing as this may seem, might actually be better than the Kezar version. Venturing into Tiger Territory, the jam leaves the parameters of Playin' several times, only to manage to find its way back. Every bit as long as the Kezar version - the jam just seems to never want to end. I'll unabashedly claim this to be the last truly outstanding GD jam, as well as the best of all the Vince-only era jams.
  4. 35 years ago today: 5/26/73 Kezar Stadium, San Francisco CA I: Promised Land, Deal, Jack Straw, Tennesee Jed, The Race Is On, Sugaree, Mexicali Blues, Row Jimmy, Looks Like Rain, They Love Each Other, Playin' In The Band II: Here Comes Sunshine, El Paso, Loser, Beat It On Down the Line, You Ain't Woman Enough, Box Of Rain, China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider, Big River, Bertha, Around And Around III: Mississippi Half-Step, Me And My Uncle, He's Gone > Truckin' > The Other One > Eyes Of The World > China Doll, Sugar Magnolia E: Casey Jones I don't know if this is
  5. Jeff Tweedy - 4/5/08 Good way to start your day.
  6. I'll be looking into ordering this one. Sounds like I need to.
  7. In honor of your birthday (and screen name) I have taken my kid's "Eagles Greatest Hits" cd and I am now using it as a coaster for my beer. Have a great day man!
  8. When I was just a child my folks would let me stay up and watch Laugh-In if I'd been well behaved that day. I have no idea why a kid 6-8 years old would want to watch that stuff (much of it was over my head I'm sure) but I'm pretty certain it had something to do with my warped sense of humor. Osmosis, I guess. RIP Dick. Thanks for your finely developed theater of the absurd.
  9. I just wanted to say thanks IRDB for taking Matt's suggestion and changing the thread title. It's Memorial Day weekend - kick out some of those wonderful Laguna Seca Daze shows! ('94, esp.)
  10. I have much respect for Mr. Iggy, but Keef is my hero. So - I gotta vote Keef.
  11. And quoting this for awesomeness as well. Oblivious, you brought your A-game today dude.
  12. In my opinion Matt the last great run was the Island Tour in April '98. I saw them later that summer and something definitely had changed. For one, all the covers that started to pop up were an indicator (to me) that the creativity and inspiration were starting to dry up. And in the jams there were many times where they just couldn't seem to turn the corner - they'd just cruise along, sometimes aimlessly. It was really sad to see. There were exceptions of course post-hiatus (Star Lake 7/29/03 for sure), but I don't think it's a stretch to say they could have/ should have retired after BC.
  13. WW - my wife (Pocahontas) is going to pain management tomorrow to see if she needs to get this done. She'll post up when she gets home and knows something definite. Vibes!
  14. So true. One of the best bios I've ever read.
  15. Moe, I would really like to sit down and have a beer with you sometime. I thoroughly enjoyed this post.
  16. So - Friday (Memorial Day weekend, y'all) is the big day. McCain is going to release his medical records. Now, check this out - here's how they're gonna do it! A selected few people will go to a special room and have 3 hours, and 3 hours only, to review nearly 1500 pages of records. No electronic devices allowed. No copying, no cell phones, etc. They have to make handwritten notes on what they see. Am I the only one who finds this just a little bit strange? Wtf does this guy have to hide? Hmmm.
  17. There's a dude on the radio here who parodies Larry King . Last night: "Bush has got back from his "Screwing Up The World Tour '08". He said he was disappointed when visiting the Wailing Wall - 'I didn't see one whale' " .
  18. I agree, but that's definitely a dangerous situation to go back into this soon. It wasn't just Trey who was having problems - the whole scene backstage was pretty rough (from what I've read).
  19. That's nice of you to think of me, Poon. Also, I think worrying about McCain winning in November is a bit premature - the one thing talking heads usually don't mention is that (at least in the primaries) Dems have brought more voters to the polls by about 2 to 1. I don't think Rush has THAT much influence.
  20. This is one very fine post, I just want to say.
  21. Whenever I hear that song I get conflicting emotions - first off, the song always makes me get a shit-eating grin. It ALWAYS makes me feel good. Then I think of how great that song could have been live...I think we've talked about this before but what a crying shame it is that so much of the Fab's best material never was played in front of people. By '69 or '70 the amplification systems were so much better and the crowds were (generally) much more laid back.
  22. I meant the famous statement "For all of those whose cares have been our concern the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dream will never die". It sounds like someone who knows the end is near speaking, not someone who has just lost a campaign.
