  1. Yeah, the polls are looking pretty good JF.I really hope by this time tomorrow I'm celebrating & not drowning my sorrows
  2. Wow you guys! My babies are 21,18,& soon to be 16...sometimes I'd like to reverse the clock to back when.Kevin enjoy these times man...it won't be long until they're asking for the car keys & yer hair starts falling out!
  3. I recently read an excerpt of a book by a guy named David Kuo.He was former second-in-command of GW Bush's Office of Faith-Based Initiatives.Looking forward to actually reading the whole thing.Regardless of which party is more 'moral',I find it really sickening that the current Administration played on evangelicals and the like (which form a true core of the Republican constituency),to get their support & when the time came to reward them Bush & Co. just shit on them.In fact, many in the Admin. laughed at them & made crude jokes about them & their apparent naivete in the politic
  4. Damn! Lou,you'll have to be my ears for that.I'll look forward to a review,ok?
  5. I caught a really good Floyd cover band last summer called "The Machine".They did a stunning version of Astronomy Domine',and a double encore of Bike>One Of These Days. For those that are so inclined,a band from Boulder called Phix is amazingly good. They do Phish even better than Dark Star Orchestra does the GD,imo.
  6. I'm glad you mention City of New Orleans..folks like Steve Goodman and John Prine are few and far between. After hearing JT solo shows,it seems obvious to me that Jeff is a direct descendent of JP.Maybe it's just the water in Chicago.
  7. This may be getting into dangerous territory, but I would guess that a main reason most country songs are more 'literal' is so that the 'people' can understand them (or at least relate). I like the abstract just as much, but how many times (for example) has someone commented during a Dylan song "what in the hell is he talking about?" The old cliche' also holds true:a well-crafted love song is universal.
  8. The more I see Addai, the happier I am that 'the Edge' left town.It definitely hasn't been pretty, but Indy has met every challenge...so far.
  9. Yeah, & that silly fuck is gonna go DOWN in 48 hrs.
  10. I know I've said this before in other, similar threads but the best thing to happen to rock songwriting (in general) was a by-product of Dylan turning the Fabs onto marijuana. It really raised the bar from the girls/cars/love cliches into more shall we say 'introspective' areas.
  11. Happiest of Birthdays Rob! Thanks for all ya do & Keep on Keepin' on!
  12. Ya don't have to tie 'em down..a gelcap or two would suffice
  13. Thanks for the heads up.I broke out an old VHS of the Avalon tour, haven't watched it since God-knows-when.
  14. Hazed & Infused (Boulder Brew Co.) Hoppy is happy..
  15. Big Al broke out of a mini-slump tonight (32 pts.).I much as I liked seeing Peja shoot the ball,Donnie Walsh shoulda brought Al back last winter. I'm just thankful we didn't lose to Thomas. Then I'd be dreading work on Monday.
  16. You have Angela Davis posters? That is teh coolest! I swear I'd buy ya a drink if you weren't so far away
  17. "floor to ceiling bookshelves (which were empty of books)".I think that sums it up rather nicely
  18. Cool! You have some treasures there Enjoy..
  19. That says it as good as anything I've read The unfortunate thing is that the churches are more directly involved in government/elections than ever before. They're organized & motivated like the way the left were back in the '60's....without the distractions (read:drugs). This upcoming election is so important. One way or another, there's gonna be some sort of referendum.
  20. A "fierce debate about taking on a greater role abroad".Jeez, where's the patriotism? At least no Abu Grahib style photos have emerged.
