  1. Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band - Almost Acoustic Like an old pair of slippers....
  2. I always loved that show. The recording is somewhat skeevy but there are some nice takes on tunes that eventually appeared on David's 1st solo LP (a personal favorite).
  3. Awesome! Enjoy yourself, cryp - I'd LOVE to see these guys.
  4. Thanks so much for the info - that sounds exactly right. I do remember reading Marmaduke saying that they kept asking Jerry to just hang on until the could find "the right guy" to take over. Obviously, with Buddy, they found the right guy. It's possible they might have crossed paths with Cage for the first time on the Festival Express Tour in Summer 1970. I'm drawing a blank here - wasn't the steel work on Cucamonga one of the Nitty Gritty folks?
  5. Wow. I had no idea of all the Pat love there is here.
  6. I agree. It's a quirky as hell effort, but some cool tunes - Blind John and Hangin' On in particular are very good. And of course there's a lot of Hart-weirdness, from the opening invocation (by tribal chief Rolling Thunder himself) to the "noise" tracks.
  7. I don't know if he taught Jerry to play (never heard that) but he did start long before JG did. He was a highly regarded player who was working with Anne Murray (believe it or not!) when NRPS stole him away. Jerry didn't try the instrument until him and Marmaduke started doing coffeehouse gigs as a duo, which eventually turned into NRPS (JG, Phil, Mick, McDuke & Nelson).
  8. Most psychedelic use of the pedal steel: Garcia on NRPS's "Dirty Business". I also love JG on Crosby's "Laughing". Bee-yoo-tee-ful.
  9. Anyone who gets in this thread that doesn't take a few minutes to click on these links is missing out. One of the coolest things on youtube I've ever seen.
  10. There is no reasonable explanation for the question here, especially when Mike Pence is your Congressman - one of the leading voices of the Right. "You can't run a country on a book of religion Not by a heap, or a lump or a smidgen" -FZ
  11. BillO & The Dead. Unreal. I bet the green room was innaresting.
  12. Wow, this was one amazing run! ::cough:: BOX SET :: cough::
  13. Yeah, after Loggins and Messina broke up I can't think of a single song of his that doesn't make me violently ill. AND - anything by Sammy Hagar The Horrible. What was the name of that tune of his where in the video he parachutes into the White House to help Ronnie The Ray-Gun save the good ol' U.S.A.? Oh God, I get nauseous just thinking about that one.
  14. That dude looks like "The Hedgehog". Circa about '85.
  15. The little melody Trey plays to begin the final section of "Lizards" - one of the most hauntingly beautiful melodies he ever composed, and it always sends the chills up the spine.
  16. While you are sleeping people all over the internets are toasting you on your natal anniversary! Have a great day, mbb!
  17. Hey, haven't you heard of the environmental dangers associated with exceedingly high PCB* levels? It's a public menace, I tell ya. *Phil Collins Band
  18. The Dead on "The View"? I think my head just exploded.
  19. Wheelco would be so pleased to see your post!
  20. Doesn't Twnag Bar King have a cover of "I'm Down" on it? I recall his version as being pretty cool.
  21. My most sincere condolences to you and your family in this difficult time, Joe. But as you already know you have many friends here who rate you quite highly, and are here for you.
  22. I want you to consider this: out of nearly a half million posts on this board you have almost 7% of 'em by your own goddamn self. Well done.
